These tips really do make a huge difference! I just used the first three - milk instead of water, an extra egg and 1/4 cup of melted butter. Thanks so much. You’re brilliant.
Thanks to you, MK, I had a hacking success with Duncan Hines Dolly Parton Yellow Cake Mix (18 oz). The directions called for milk already, so apart from following the directions I added 1 extra egg (5 total), 1/4 cup canola oil, 1 package Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix and 1/4 cup sour cream. I used 8" aluminum cake rounds (3" tall), parchment bottom and 3" cake strips. This was my first hacking attempt, and the result was a moist, beautifully baked cake. I iced with my favorite canned buttercream frosting (it required 2 cans). It was delicious. Not because I ate them, but there weren't any crumbs on the plate when I finished. I'll be doing this again and next time I'll make one of your frostings. Did I say it was an 18oz box mix? Not the shrinkflation size. It was about a 40 minute bake time at 350F.
1. Replace water with milk or buttermilk 2. Add an extra egg 3. Add extra 1/4 cup of oil or butter 4. Add extra 1/4 cup mayo, yogurt, or sour cream 5. Add a packet of instant pudding mix 6. Add extra complementary flavoring
@takudutakudu2454 Hi, cake baker/ decorator of special event cakes for almost 50 years here. 👋 Yes, you can, or you can even use both if you prefer. Just make sure the dulce de leche compliments the flavor of your cake.
We just make this hack spending 2.75 at the Dollar store for the boxed cake mix and vanilla pudding. Had the other items at home. I think it is the best cake we have made so far! Delicious and moist. THANKS!😃
I dont know which one will be better U or the cake. U are so cute and ur voice so cheerfull. U can see u enjoy cooking and put Love into it. Thank You Me a disabled senior, thank u for making my day a Happy Spongy Day. P.S.: Can u please go to store for me to get the Pudding. LOL Joking have some in Pantry.
Your videos are amazing! So well done and professional yet your personality is so warm and relatable. So glad I found your channel ❤ Wishing you continued success… ❤ xx
M a homemade enthusiastic baker. Today i saw hundreds of cake mix on a amazon and saw so many people enjoying the pre mix cakes and they look so perfect and beautiful! It got me really sad and got me thinking should i really spend so much time and money in making cake from scratch??😢❤ Please tell me a good thing that let me continue baking like a real baker...
Hello MK. Once again, I love your new style of videos. I knew of those hacks. Now, you tempted me in making a cake tomorrow. I have about 3 boxed cake mixes doing nothing!! / Be well. ♥
This is great, my oven stopped working, I made your recommended changes, so I tried my microwave. This came out great! I'll try it again when I get a new oven. Now I will get fatter watching all of these cooking videos.... Thanks-
What get tips. That with really help when I'm running low on ingredients. I love the new channel vibe. It is so up to bet just like you. Thanks for the homemade cake release. It is really going to come into handy. Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜
Love the video! Thank you for these wonderful tips. Question: what if I’m using two boxes of cake mix? Do I add two extra eggs (1 extra egg per box) or just 1 extra egg in general?
Great hacks!! Would recommend the use of parchment paper to line your cake pan, and bake at 300 degrees, instead of 350 degrees. Also, have U ever considered using just egg whites to keep the sides of your cakes with less crumbs?
Hack 4 works for me! I make full fat Greek yogurt and until I found out my neighbour enjoys yogurt I'd have a good bit extra left over at the end of the "best by" date. I make it a gallon at a time! 😊
🎉.... with all the hacks, you might as well bake from scratch. Boxed Cakes are expensive in South Africa.... and it is never Home Made. Thank you fot sharing 🌸
Should you still add a box of instant pudding mix even for box cakes with pudding in the mix? I’m not sure if that would make the cake too thick and absorb most of the liquid.
I've never heard of the last 4!! I guess I have a box cake just sitting in the pantry so whenever I decide to use it, I'm going to have to try these tricks!!
Love your videos. I wanted to know why my Betty crocker super moist cake is raw in the middle despite following the box intructions (without even adding all the extras you suggested) Baked at 350 degrees for 40 min in a 7 inch pan. It rose to the top but completely raw in the middle. So extended it by another 20 min and still undercooked. Wanted to what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions???
Hi, I’m a bit confused with the extra ingredients because I did see you adding that extra egg but i didn’t see you adding extra butter or oil just the 1/4 cup. I’m I right? Or did you add it off camera? Asking because I would love to try your recipe for my family.
Because the cake mix MK used only said to add 1 egg and a cup of water... so therefore according to the hacks outlined she added 2 eggs instead of just the 1, replaced the water with milk and then added 1/4 cup of butter
Any adjustments needed due to additional liquid ingredients? Is height affected ?? Any additional baking powder needed? Thank you..love your concise videos
cornstarch in a nut shell I’d consider to be night and day when comparing to pudding mix in the cake. Her reason why she is saying to use pudding mix in the mix is to add flavor and moisture, Cornstarch wouldn’t give or do either of those. Cornstarch can be used to make things crispier like cookies etc or to thicken sauces etc. I wouldn’t add to a cake at all.
I don't understand box cakes... You actually have to use almost everything what you use when you're making a cake from scratch, except for flour and baking powder.
Good question! Yes they definitely tone down the artificial flavours A LOT! I wouldn't say they're completely gone, but definitely much less strong to the point where you probably wouldn't be able to completely pick it up if you didn't know it was a box mix :)
I like the convenient of boxed cake. Easy, quick, and fool proof. However, my only problem with box cake mix is it tend to be overly sweet. So my still unanswered question ... How can I just bring down the sweetness a bit without changing other characteristics of the cake?
If you're using frosting or icing, balance the cakes sweetness in its entirety by reducing sugar, but upping the butter in the frosting...a more mellow icing will tone down the sweetness overall. Otherwise, you'd have to add flour to the cake mix to tone down the high-sugar content of the cake itself. Personally I would suggest 1C flour, one more egg, and 1/2t of baking powder. You'd roughly be upping the ingredient volume by 1/3, therefor spreading out the sugar amount over 133% instead of a regular batch (100% boxed cake mix). Good luck!
You can use all the other hacks except for adding in the extra egg :) in terms of an egg replacement I'm not so sure sorry but I'll keep it in mind for future videos :)
Great hacks! But had to watch three times to understand. Not sure if the video was sped up. It was too quick to follow specially with all the new graphics.
Hi there! :D I use a brand called Greggs, but instant pudding itself is actually pretty hard to find here in NZ! Hope you manage to find a halal alternative for you :)
I doubled the recipe (2 boxed cakes) the cake called for 2 eggs so 1 extra egg for each box was 6 eggs replaced the water with milk and added the melted butter with the oil. It was a total disaster! The cake was rubbery and eggy I had to throw it all out such a waste of ingredients. Be careful because this hack may not work with all boxed cakes and think twice about doubling the ingredients
Oh…Betty Crocker… I’m not sure, I didn’t know there was different sizes. I recently started making cakes for my kids at home so I don’t know much about all this BUT i still follow the receipt just leave it longer in the oven and it comes out perfect! Thank you for your response, I appreciate it I will pay more attention next time!

Can I replace the pudding mix for 6tbsp of dulce de leche syrup with the cake mix

I tried hack 1 and 2 and am amazed at what a huge difference there was in my finished cake. I got better rise, less of a dome, and an amazing crumb.
We just make this hack spending 2.75 at the Dollar store for the boxed cake mix and vanilla pudding. Had the other items at home. I think it is the best cake we have made so far! Delicious and moist. THANKS!😃

Good I saw this because this weekend I’m going to use boxed mix cake to make cake pops for my niece’s birthday.
Perfect timing! All the best with your weekend baking :D
Hack 9: For a gluten free cake, leave the batter wait in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking. The cake will not be gritty.
I have just found your RUclips video absolutely love it

Quantity of pudding mix?
Great tips! Good to know👍👍Thank you ☺
You're welcome :D
To add extra richness can you add heavy cream?
Thank you, oh I'm a bit late!😂❤
Have to try this. Sometimes I do use Betty Crocker cake mix but the Artificial flavors are a bummer!
Yeah that's the only downside to cake boxes! The hacks do help to really tone down those strong artificial flavours :D
Can u do a lemon hack please?
Should you still add a box of instant pudding mix even for box cakes with pudding in the mix? I’m not sure if that would make the cake too thick and absorb most of the liquid.
Noooooo. Texture will be off!!!
What if you don't have pudding mix what could you use instead?
I've never heard of the last 4!! I guess I have a box cake just sitting in the pantry so whenever I decide to use it, I'm going to have to try these tricks!!

Some people add jello packets into their box cake mixture. It’s supposed to make the cake taste really good. Could you maybe try this out please?😊
Thanks alot for the useful ideas
Wow good man
Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question and I know this is an old video but I was wondering if this applies to cup cake mix too?
Yes...turn cake mix into cupcakes
What can replace 3 eggs in the cake mix to make it vegetarian version?
Hi Mk, do you perhaps have hacks for boxed muffin mixes? I usually add an extra egg.
Instant pudding pack is that Custer powder.
Can i use this recipe for cupcakes as well?
Totally! :)
Hi, I’m a bit confused with the extra ingredients because I did see you adding that extra egg but i didn’t see you adding extra butter or oil just the 1/4 cup. I’m I right? Or did you add it off camera? Asking because I would love to try your recipe for my family.

What is the Fahrenheit? And how long to bake?
I have a golden deluxe cake mix, can I follow this procedure
For cake pops can I still add sour cream
Any adjustments needed due to additional liquid ingredients? Is height affected ?? Any additional baking powder needed?
Thank you..love your concise videos
Hi there! I compare the two versions at the end which should answer your questions :)
I added pudding to my cake mix and just want to share that it makes it sweeter
im wondering wht is it tht make this ready made mixes to produce very soft fluffy cake thn t one made frm t scratch
Thank you for this !!☺️...can I use cornstarch in place of instant pudding mix ...can you suggest an alternative .

does the amped up cake still have the artificial flavour when tasting as the original cake?

@@CakesbyMK thanks dear
@@CakesbyMK would adding 1 cup of flour with the box mix Mahe a difference?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but would you do the same hacks for making cupcakes?
Not a dumb question at all! If using a cake box mix to make cupcakes then yep you can use the same hacks :D

You can use all the other hacks except for adding in the extra egg :) in terms of an egg replacement I'm not so sure sorry but I'll keep it in mind for future videos :)
How much instant pudding you added in?
I added in about 50g, but anything up to around the 100g mark will be fine :)
How much grams exactly of pudding mix you added to it?
the flying MK sent me 😂
Hahahaha I had to 😂😂😂
Great hacks! But had to watch three times to understand. Not sure if the video was sped up. It was too quick to follow specially with all the new graphics.
Thank's so much for the feedback! May have gone a bit overboard with this video lol! Will keep this in mind for future videos :))
Hello, what brand of instant pudding mix did you used? I am searching for a halal one in The Netherlands here..😊

Is it ok if we don’t add egg
Or maybe replace egg with any other ingredient
Because I am vegetarian
Here im wanting to know the size of cake pan she used
What to add if one doesn't have instant pudding and you didn't add Yogurt
Can you please answer me because i am going to make box cake tomorrow
If I add the pudding, can I add the sour cream too? On the video, you did not add the sour cream. Thanks.

Yep perfect for tea! :)

Mayonnaise?
Yes! My mom used it all the time 60 years ago! Makes cake moist. Just a heaping tablespoon will do!
