In the summer of 1975 and 77 we were in the same Musical Comedy Workshop in sacramento, California...He played "Judas' in our production of "Godspell"...we were amazed at his voice then and I am still amazed and in awe of his talent today. I listened to several of his interviews. He mentioned doing that show in one of them. But why does wikipedia have him listed as being an understudy? I wish I could rem which interview he gave where he chatted about that play. So I could get to the bottom of this mystery! 😉 And he also mentions his teacher....Judy Davis (wiki got that correct) and credits her for teaching him diction, proper breathing and enunciation. He remembers y'all with fondness. This is not an easy song to sing. But I myself am not a fan of his easy listening efforts. I myself prefer the rock legend version of EM.

One thing that always sticks out to me are the smile/teeth makeovers. Rocker Ian Astbury of the Cult, KISS' Paul Stanley, Shania Twain, and yes, even cutie Eric Martin all had horrendously awful teeth. I think that very thing makes them retain a sense of humility and maybe keeps them from getting too big for their britches. I myself grew up w gnarly bad teeth.......so it was a HUGE blessing to get them fixed. But I still remember the teasing kids did. When you met 19yr old EM did he seem self conscious about his smile? I listened to a covid-era interview where EM was dealing with having to do a concert that night but had somehow managed to knock the veneer off of his front tooth and during that time it was next to impossible to secure the services of a dentist. He really did NOT want to have to smile all night and be a ROCK star with his teeth jacked up. I could tell he was rem how his old smile was and how thankful he was for his new one. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
