    • @mirkomarjanovic3234
      @mirkomarjanovic3234 3 года назад +122

      Definetely. Picked this up from Athlean x. Also works for chin ups. Your arm can naturally produce more power with hand a bit tilted outwards. Though on pressing movements it should be more straight or rather straight enough to allow the barbell to put pressure straight on the bones and not on the wrist.

So then I took off all of the weight except for 10 pounds to focus on the proper technique and really was quite shocked with the results. Of course I went until failure but still I hadn’t felt a pump like this before even using the heavier weight I was used to. I was doing the exercise wrong this whole time. No more wasted effort. For the guys who are wondering about the shoulder movement forwards - an element of bicep activation occurs in support of the front delt (forward raising) thus actually providing a better bicep contraction if you know how to use that to your advantage. It’s another mini technique just like twisting your wrists as you DB curl for instance.

    This comment serves as a note to myself when I am working out so that I can easily reference the time frames.
    0:31 - For my curling a barbell isn't ideal. I feel more of my elbow joints working than my biceps. I'll stick to using an ez-bar to curl. I will incorporate the steps mentioned from 0:10 - 0:28
    "slightly push your hips back (hip hinge slightly) and bend at the knee so that your arms hang vertically (the bar should now be lightly in contact with your legs, if not, check your positioning again),
    then tighten your core by flexing it keeping tension on it (use the cue, as if someone were to punch your stomach, or if you were to cough),
    then flex your pecs by applying tension in it as well (similar to the core), then curl upwards"

    Only one criticism...if he'd stop half way through the curl then he wouldnt engage the delts. Taking it to his eyes is really unnecessary and takes the focus of the lift off the bicep...
    Sure he can curl more weight, but the stress is shifted from the bicep and into the ft deltoid.( past a certain point in said lift).
    Lighter weight and stopping at a fixed point would produce better results

    • @JuliettKilo
      @JuliettKilo 3 года назад +2

      If you really want to isolate your bicep, barbell curl isn’t the best option at the first place. This exercise is meant to train for heavy weight by aid of a little compensation. Plus, engaging front delts isn’t always bad for stimulus to biceps. Just don’t let your front delts dominate.

    another very important pointer: bicep curls are an exercise where the eccentric is just as important as the concentric ( in layman's terms: the movement of bringing the bar down is just as important as getting it up). Thus, in order to maximise effect, try to lower the bar back to the starting position 'intentionally' i.e. take about 2-3 second to do this part of the movement, focusing on this eccentric. This will blow up you gains and might be a solution if you've plateaud in bicep development.

    The biggest tip I can give from my experience is to focus on pushing the weight directly upwards with the bicep instead of thinking about your hands. Similar to driving with your elbows on other pulling movements. It takes the focus off of my hands and forearms. It feels more like I'm just flexing my bicep with weight added.
