What a great show. I only learned about Kirk a few months ago and he is already one of my favorite guitar players. From his interviews he seems like a great person with a multitude of good qualities.
Yah, Kirk just keeps setting the bar higher and higher. The whole band is just stellar. When I hear people complaining about how life isn't fair, I think of musicians like these, where there is such a tremendous disparity of their worth and what they are actually paid. These guys should all be millionaires, what with all of their talent, hard work, chops and dedication, etc. In these days of high tech, why cannot we lovers of good music contribute/donate to a website, from anywhere in the world, where the money goes directly TO musicians such as these? Bypass all the middle money grubber's, etc? It just does not get any better than this, IMHO. But then again, Kirk keeps surprising myself and all of my music lover friends. Fantastic stuff. As a player, this is a lifetimes worth of lessons! Thanks so much!!!!!
2 years later, I just came here after watching a video with Brett Papa interviewing him. He mentioned a go fund me page to support his upcoming Album... I won't link because it would probably be mistaken as spam by filters, but it's a chance to do just what you mentioned. As this is in the top of the comments, others might see it. These artists deserve support.
Kirk Fletcher - Guitar and Vocals , Damien Steele Scott - Bass , Dave McEvoy - Keys , Andrew Bignell - Drums , with special guest's Snooks La Vie and Chris Finnen.
Kirk is a Blues Monster! Great to see folks dancing, I can't listen to Kirk without involuntary movements too! I hope we are graced by Kirk Fletcher in Australia some time soon. Come on Joe B, bring him with you next tour.
Man, this is just what a Working Club needs to hear and experience. Bringing the most awesome blues to ordinary people. I love that. Words get in the way of saying how much I resonate with this whole gig. Cudos to all the fine musicians, and Kirk himself. A true gentleman and amazing blues musician. This gig transcends even history in my school of thought. It's a complete blues education based on deep roots. Ancient spirits groove. Deepest respect and thanks. Great performances by the whole ensemble. Vibe intense. Hits me.
Seeing Kirk Friday night at Lizottes Newcastle. Beautifully shot by the way. Felt like I spent a night at the Workers. Thanks a lot. Yours In The Blues...
Kirk is a very versatile player. He feels equally at home playing gospel in his father's evangelical church in the US and at an Australian Communist Party blues do in the Antipodes. One of my favourites!
The 15 idiots who gave this a thumbs down are all probably guitar players who think they are too good for blues. I would put money on at least 12 of them are.
Farrrrr out Brussels Sprout. This is in my home country. Never knew Kirk Fletcher had toured. Love the signs on the walls. And the people dancing. Is this really at a workies'? And "Port" as in harbour port, or, Port Macquarie?
The Semaphore Workers Club, one of the oldest and finest seaside buildings in South Australia, is owned by Communists. They use it for the occasional branch meeting. Twice a week the local blues scene moves in and it goes off. Very few Communists are actually ever seen at the club.
I love the stage , The BWIU now the CMFEU , The Communist Party, Musicians Union fo Australia working class roots here at this venue ...... Love the music 1 and a 2 and a yeah
Where does the opening number come from? My earliest memory is of Freddie King doing it. Also, I've never been able to nail it. You did! Thanks, I'm enjoying your playing immensely.
Kirk is one if the best all round blues players ever!! Phrasing, dynamics, vibe, tone he's got it all. A truly polished player...
definetely my favorite modern blues player, his phrasing just sets him apart.

and a very nice guy
For the skill Kirk has, he has very little ego and no need to be in spotlight every time. It is so nice to listen to that type of laid back blues
Church Gospel background.
The set opened with Freddie King's spirit. Love these instrumentals! Great fun that people are moving there feet instead of just sitting there!

The tune is classic "Sidetracked" played by the great Hollywood Fats and Anson Funderburgh.
