Just subscribed, great video. I have a 2000 R6.. I did a compression test with low results.. 85ish psi each cylinder. I haven’t pulled the engine apart yet, but my question is how to do fix the cracked liner issue? Would I have to find another upper crank case? Or can the liners be replaced?
@@jeromysnellings hi mate, have a look on eBay for complete engine casings, top and bottom, you have to have them both, then just put the internals of your motor into it.. you can still use your original head.. there are quite a few salvage brokers who strip good low mileage bikes , just make sure the cylinders are good in the listings. That’s probably the cheapest way of doing it, probably cost you around £250.. or you can buy a R6 5sl engine that doesn’t suffer from the cracked liners but that’s buying a whole new engine and will need a little bit of modification to the top engine mount but I see a lot of people going that route, however for me I wanted to keep mine as original as possible.. give me a message if you need help with anything and I’m happy to give advice 👍
@@pikesbikesnguns7720 thank you so much for the information! I will pull the engine apart and see what I find. HOPEFULLY I just need some new rings (I’ll replace the bearings while I’m in there) I’ve always built car/truck/diesel engines so bikes engines are new to me. My bike has 27,xxx miles on it and the previous owner did NOT take care of it. I’ll look into that 5SL engine option too!
Unfortunately these early R6 suffered from cracked cylinders. I had the same problem with mine…
Love it mate, you took on a big job and sorted it, love the video
Nice work! Where did you source most of the parts?
