Finally managed to watch this. Honestly I'm not a traditional, by the numbers, Slasher fan but THIS was absolutely wild. 100% my cup of tea: Different, slow, experimental, artsy... Add great gore to the mix and you have one of my favourite horror movie of this year, so far. I really value movies that try something different. That kill was out of this solar system. Will Terrifier top it? I think Terrifier will have a more emotionally disturbing kill. But I doubt it's going to be more creative than this one. we'll see though.
I got to see this at a local theatre last night and loved it! Some of the cast was there and apparently the woman at the end played Vickie in Friday part 2!
Fresh outta the cinema commentary incoming but that's why we love/watch these films🔪...I'll say it delivered so much of what I was looking for & quite frankly expected but also left me a bit unsatisfied if that makes sense🤷♂️ not too slow for my taste, just feel like something was missing to elevate this beyond a 8/10 film. Another view on Shudder later on could change my perspective perhaps, but totally agree this could be a devisive slasher film...I'm not disappointed tho, appreciate any good horror content this time of year😉 keep up the good work btw u two!
Cant agree more with her take. Loved it. Also think it sets up more for a prequel than a sequel with the father of the ranger scene. So very very well done. Im an arthouse fan, not much into Friday the 13th films. i love my vibes film and this definitely served it for me. the way you put it, it's a great background film. where would u rank it among this director's other films like the void?
I'm not even a fan of slashers but I loved this movie. I thought the allusions towards backstories of the other characters (a love triangle, father issues, etc.) were a cheeky nod towards the idea that we don't care about these people anyway. We're here for the killer and the kills. It was almost like there was another movie taking place off to the side where these characters are fleshed out in a perfunctory way, so I did see it as both a satire of and a love letter to slasher films. The only thing I thought was missing was a proper "final girl" scene were the last woman is being chased by Johnny and either escapes or kills him herself. I agree that this may be only a "one-time watch" type of thing, considering how tense an initial viewing of the ending is, but it could be a matter of getting into the final girl's mindset, since she doesn't know Johnny is gone and she's safe now. Either way I still appreciated how deconstructive this film is. Edit: I posted this comment before getting to the end of your video, and yes, I'm one of those people in the small group of people you mentioned that I described in my first sentence, lol. Edit 2: My favourite kill was the yoga girl. But the one I found more disturbing from a psychological standpoint was the ranger with the log-splitter. I was watching an interview with the writer/director, and he said that they had planned on having Johnny chopping off all his limbs before moving onto the head, but they were running out of time or something, so they settled on just one arm instead. After viewing the final product he said it was better this way because cutting off all the limbs would've taken way too long, lol.
I loved so much about this movie besides the ending. The yoga kill I felt was a bit much, in comparison to the rest of the kills. Just was a different tone than the rest it's not a negative for me but it's not really a positive either.
Boy, did that director have the audience in the palm of his hand. Playing with us! And that yoga kill! This guy has a bright future in horror! Can’t wait to give it another go on Shudder!
I didn’t like this movie i found it to be sooo boring because in my opinion we were missing the connection to the characters or the killer. Since they were doing it from the killer POV they should’ve found a way to make us root for him.
I have the opposite opinion of most who aren't thrilled with this. I was never bored and didn't mind any of the "walking scenes". In fact, I feel like people are going a bit overboard with how much of the film is just our antagonist roaming the forest. I was fine with Chris Nash the director. I had more of an issue with Chris Nash the writer. The killer's backstory is a little muddled and the characters are one-dimensional 2024 stereotypes whose only lines might as well be AI generated, save for the final discussion in the car. I'm pretty sure that was intentional but for me it clashed with the more unique narrative technique. I was engaged the entire time, however, and a few of the kills ARE pretty brutal. I agree 100% with you Jason that the final scene greatly enhanced the tension on first time viewing in a theater (I was ready for anything going down at that point) but I can't see watching this film again. I think it's a one and done for me, though an enjoyable one.
Hopefully all these good reviews will push them to make more with all the money they make off of part one. Bigger badder deader 😅 I'm just wondering if there was a deal Johnny made with someone to give him an adult body and get his revenge.
I enjoyed the movie. I would say it could have been shorter, but I think the last scene with the lady in the car was purposely done for a fake jump scare. I personally thought Johnny was going to come out of forest and attack them, especially when the lady pulled over to stop the bleeding. The kills were pretty solid. The yoga kill was crazy good. I also missed that there was no nudity. LOL
I thought the kills were really well-handled but I found the movie to be unintentionally hysterical. My brother and my buddy had a blast with the movie for all the wrong reasons. At one point we were laughing so hard, we couldn't even catch our breath. It was a 30-minute movie needlessly stretched out to 93 minutes and yet I was never bored.
@ 10:07, There's not. I always stay for the credits.. I like to soak in the music. It's like the coffee after breakfast.. The dessert after dinner.. The cigarette after sex.. Really caps off the whole experience.
Hatchet! I wasn't even thinking about those movies while watching this. I think the fact that none of the victims made any noise. That was weird. The wood splitter part. What was up with that??
Just clicked to leave a message or a thought i guess. I haven't seen this film yet, as im waiting to watch at home. So im not watching your video atm. But wanted to say, i for one think the kill in terrifier 1 is far superior and more disturbing than the kill in terrifier 2. So that being said im very curious if this so called yoga kill is gonna be more shockingly evil than the upside down hacksaw kill from terrifier??? I think the kill from terrifier 2 was more comedic than anything else. 🤔
OMG yes!! Mentioning The Hachet! Love those movies! And the effects from this movie are just amazing. I share many of these thoughts.

I agree. Terrifier will go more hardcore, but won’t be as creative

Yup. I interviewed her not too long ago

I for sure thought the Jason dude would pop up in the back seat like in urban legend and ex them both😂😂😂
Definitely

It is supposed to be tense that she is going to die but doesn’t
