The spiders used in this movie are common in Australia, they're quite docile for spiders and live in family colonies. They're called Avondale Huntsman Spiders (Delena cancerides.) I see them frequently in the garden and out when hiking in the forest, they're gentle giants.

One of my most favorite movies ever. Such a perfectly made movie. It actually creeps you out, even if you aren't specifically scared of spiders. And the fact that they are fairly normal spiders at least in size. Movies about giant spiders are of course rather unbelievable. But this one...it feels like it could happen. This movie was filmed in Cambria California...a regular vacation spot of mine, so I have actually walked all around the spider town. This was one of my favorite reactions from you guys also. The authentic scares from you both were awesome.

I saw this movie on TV when I was about 5 years old, and it was the film that introduced me to the concept of poisonous spiders. Naturally I was terrified. My parents then sat me down and did their best to explain to me how unlikely it was to be bitten by a poisonous spider and that I didn't need to be afraid.
The next day my dad was bitten by a black widow.
So this film made me afraid of spiders, and taught me that my parents were liars.

23:36 This shot really does bring a whole new meaning to "jump scare"! Like, literally, most jump scares are about slapping something from off-camera onto the screen. It could be a wet handkerchief, but people will dodge the first-person POV action because it's just a human response to protecting their own face. That's why it's a cheap tactic. But in this movie, the culprits are in plain sight the entire time, and the scare isn't reliant on first person perspective. The culprits simply move in a way that's disturbing to the audience because of the implications on the characters in the movie. You're not jumping to protect your own eyes, but you're jumping because you're really bothered by the notion of being in the character's position (knowing what you know).

I love watching ARACHNOPHOBIA (1990) Interesting facts about the movie. The safety of the spiders was paramount throughout the entire production, so for one scene where McLintock (John Goodman) had to spray an arachnid with insecticide, then squash it with his boot, the production went to extreme measures: first, a dummy spider was sprayed. then Goodman donned special boots with a hollowed-out sole for the squash shot so that the spider would just curl up inside and wait for the next take. The animatronic General Spider seen at the film's climax was one of the earliest prop jobs done by Jamie Hyneman, star and co-producer of MythBusters (2003). Though Jeff Daniels claimed that he was fine with small spiders, he acknowledged that "anyone in his right mind" would have issues with spiders as huge as Big Bob. However, John Goodman wasn't fazed. "I don't have any problem," he said. "We see each other eye to eye; well, two eyes to their 16, but we get along swell." The sound of a spider being crushed by John Goodman was made by the foley artists crushing a couple of potato chips

When I was 10, I went camping with my family. Had a great camp site with many large trees. At night it was beautiful without a cloud in the night sky. Then it felt like it was raining out, and started tickling all over. My dad turned on the large gas lantern really bright. To our horror, multitudes of spider nests had hatched above our heads, and it was raining baby spiders like a light drizzle. We were covered from head to toe of baby spiders crawling all over us. To this day, I still freeze when I see a spider, and the smaller they are, the more fearful I am. I suffer from arachnophobia, and this movie is the scariest one I have ever watched

I know right? It coulda came out yesterday. This was just a basic movie they hoped to make a few bucks on and it's just so well made top to bottom. It has a good feel, the characters seem real, it's got chills, thrills & humor.
They just don't make them like this anymore at all. I just saw they're remaking this. It'll just be a soulless movie with a buncha CG spiders. running around.

If it helps at all, daddy long legs aren't even spiders (but are still in the family of arachnids). They're more along the lines of mites with super long legs (specifically harvestmen), have no fangs or venom, and dine on dead stuff. So any dead skin, dust, crumbs, dead plant matter, dead bugs, even teeny tiny bugs you wouldn't notice. No web spinning, they just stumble about looking for their dust dinners. You can tell them apart from other creepy long legged critters by their body. Harvestmen have one body segment (looking like a ball in the middle of the legs); spiders have two segments (looking like two balls connected together, legs connected to the first "ball"). That's why they're often in places people don't go in; so much dead stuff to munch!

12:55 Mrs Movies: "What would you do if you saw a spider's-web that large?"
(without missing a beat) Mr Movies: "I would burn that barn down."
    Hahahaha...
I would burn that barn down, immediately, too...!!!
Even watching you watch this film, made me wriggle and get stressed/skin-tingles... As a nine year old when this came out, it freaked people (myself included) out in the cinema, and on rental video and on TV when it was broadcast.. The toilet scene, shower scene, cereal and popcorn scenes, argh!!
Especially as the spiders are so aggressive and jump at their targets... Awful... But, your reaction video also made me realise it is very much a comedy, too, very dark creature-feature comedy - not with jokes, but purely on the characters...
Reminds me in tone, in the comedic way, to Lake Placid - with the giant alligator.. Brendon Gleeson's line about a body that is recovered in the lake is absolutely priceless..
    Love the channel.. Cheers

Story time! I saw it in the theater when it first came out. Twice. First time, I jumped along with everyone else, with the jump scares. The 2nd time, I bought 2 of the biggest buckets of popcorn, and sat 3 rows from the back, in the center. -- I don't like popcorn. -- You remember the shower scene in the movie, where the spider jumps from the shower head to the girl? Well... I held onto those 2 buckets of popcorn & waited.... When that spider was getting ready to jump, I stood up with those buckets of popcorn, and whipped them out over the crowd, just as that spider JUMPED and the popcorn started to land... Can you say: "Utter Pandemonium"? I knew you could. Drinks.... Candy.... Popcorn.... People.... Everything went flying EVERYWHERE. I saw this big Tongan guy jump higher than the SEATS they were sitting on. Not joking. I saw his shoes. They had to pause the movie to restore order. When things calmed down, they restarted it. I sat back down, enjoying my hilarious joke & to finish the movie. But then I noticed that 2 workers were asking people if they saw what happened, working their way back. Shit. I couldn't exactly just hop up and leave NOW. I look back, and sure enough there were a group of 4 people behind me, 2 rows back. Double Damn. But when the worker asked them "Did you see what happened?" They replied:"Nah. Nah, we didn't see anything" Then one of them leaned forward later, whispering: "That was GREAT!"
