    • @ausfuhrpramienjagar
      @ausfuhrpramienjagar 2 года назад +8

      .. Jay is probably busy at the moment, so, I will give you the answer to that question.. When you claim a horse from a race, the claiming tag (card) has to be dropped into the locked claim box at least 15 min "prior" to the horses going to the gate.. That said, you have no way of knowing who the winner will be for that particular race. Last minute decisions on whether or not to claim a particular horse are usually made at the saddling paddock after viewing the horses warming up in the walking ring, prior to the jockey's getting a leg up.. You check the horse you want to claim for any last minute problems you may see while he is walking around.. If everything looks good, you go and drop the claim tag into the box for that race.. Hopefully nobody else has done the same thing on the horse you want or you will have what is called a "shake," to determine who gets the horse.. A shake is basically numbered balls in a jug and you draw to see who wins.. Simple as that. Sometimes there may be 3 claims for one horse and then it's called a 3-way shake or 4-way shake depending on the number of claims for that one horse.. This info is legit, as I have been a CHRB licensed thoroughbred owner for the past 14 years... Hope this answers your question... ;-)

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  2 года назад +6

      Yes, that's right. Most trainers are quite pleased to grab the horse finishing second because, in this case, it's still able to run in the easier maiden races rather than having to move up to run against winners.

    • @ausfuhrpramienjagar
      @ausfuhrpramienjagar 2 года назад +1

      @@JayCNehfracing .. Exactly! And also.. If it doesn't win that particular race, you still have the maiden, non-winners of two and starter allowances available to run in with lower class horses. If you so choose.

    Steve is the winningest trainer of all time, well over 9000 wins. You have 3 wins, do you really think you're going to find something they didn't know about? My rule is never claim off a big trainer dropping down. You want to claim from bad trainers since the likelihood of improving them is far greater.

      It doesn’t matter which Trainer you claim your horse from. You want Value. And a 100K Horse dropping from a MSW is valuable. Specially for 30k. That’s a 70% Discount. Steve is trying to Graduate her and hoping the Purse Monies would even out the Risk of getting Claimed. She already paid out some of the 70% he lost with the Purses she won. So he will drop more good MSW horses for others to claim. It’s business...

      @@MLOCharmer .. I'm not saying to change trainers.. You must not know Leland Decker then.. That is exactly what he is capable of doing at his training center.. He isn't a racing trainer at the track per se', but a trainer that gets rid of problems and small behavioral quirks that some horses have or may develop over time, on and off the track.. Unpleasant behavioral habits in other words. He gets their heads back on straight and ready to run. He gives them a refresher training regimen and in about 30 days they are as good as new. Those types of habits and behavior will not be fixed staying at the track and racing every 3 to 4 weeks.. The time away from the track and dealing with the specific problem is what will fix them..
