    Chalky's filly a little banged up but looking very well and happy. Not a fan of graining them all outside like that, wish they would grain inside before they turn them out for the day, to help prevent some of the fighting for their share of the food behavior. Baby Chalky stands up for herself and gets her share, but feel bad for some of the other ones, trying to get their feed. Maybe they are outside day and night so this is how they must do it, but seems risky. So easy for a young one to get seriously hurt. Baby Beholder looking great. Love this place, the jockey who rides her, the way she looks and everything about it. They really know what they are doing and they do it well. Progressing nicely in horse haven! You were so lucky to find that place. The Queen looking nice and relaxed. Great approach building up slowly and carefully. She seems happy and is looking beautiful. Nice recap video of the entire crew, which seems to be getting bigger all the time. ☺

    Hello Mr. Jay, do you still see Aristeia every now and then? She ran today, was the favorite but unfortunatelly came out of the gate late. She was flying at the end, if the race had been 50 to 100 meters longer I believe she would have won.

    Might it be helpful to have your jockey go to Rimrock while Baby Beholder is there training and get a feel for her there, before she comes back to Santa Anita in February? Make it an easier transition for both? Or it that a crazy idea?

      She was in a PET scan research program and then retired about 6 months ago. She is now in KY in foal to Classic Empire and will probably be bred to Caravaggio in 2022. We can't wait to see her 2021 foal!

    Thanks for the video Jay. As a share holder of the queen, I have a question. Is it really necessary for the lip chain? I understand why it could be a precaution, but wouldn't a clothed stud chain over her nose be sufficient with the surcingle? Thanks!

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  2 года назад +6

      Absolutely not! She has kicked both Tony and me while walking. This is why we call her Sparky. She is a terror. We have to take all kinds of special precautions with her so she doesn't hurt herself or anyone around her. And she is definitely NOT a mean horse. She's just amazingly exuberant. And she's one of the most beautiful fillies I've ever seen. We just have to get her safely back to the races.

    Romance in race 2 on Friday. Surprised you are putting her in a claiming race.
    Even with the claiming $$, you chance losing a potentially great horse. A high claimer, but still... I know Asmussen had dropped her down, but aren't there any races at all for her that are not claiming??? There has got to be something???

      @@JayCNehfracing Here is my reasoning based on my actual experiences in the harness game back in the early 80's... To me, I got a ton of experience from racing the horses that I claimed... But with standardbreds, most of the training, jogging and racing activities were hands on, so I pretty much knew how a certain horse felt like in a race... so after fifty or so starts, I was pretty much accustomed to all the racing ropes...
      This allowed me to gain experience while I was raising babies from broodmares back on the farm... I made the most money from my homebred stock and got the satisfaction of seeing my equine kids perform and win...
      Now here is the thing: I don't see why a freshly claimed horse couldn't be offered up on shares to the Racing Club... with something like this: Claim one for say, 40 thousand dollars, and then sell one hundred claiming shares in that horse for $500 each... allow an expense of say 2,500 per month in training costs and maintenance, hence you got 4 months paid in advance..... Then basically distribute the earnings at 1/100th of the proceeds ( after paying the jock and agent fees, and, a small training percentage from the take..) and if the horse gets claimed, then offer to distribute back the take and/or opt in on a new claimer...
      Or, see if you can start a pool of claiming shares in advance and then claim the horse...
      This could require a good bit of honest accounting... but that is a small price to pay to be active in the racing game with an experienced horse which is competitive, in my opinion only.... just a rough thought of an idea... yours, rp

      @@suzanne9622 I am not quite sure that I understand what you are saying, Suzanne.. All I know is that for a lot of different reasons, I had to stop, sell off everything related to horses, and just give it up, or declare bankruptcy....this was my fate after a big run of bad luck... I regret that now/

      @@robertprestonsr2453 Hi Robert. So sorry you had to sell off your horses and all your equipment etc... Racing is so tough. It is very expensive. You invest a lot of your own time and money, and it seems often get nothing or very little back. It is tough because you enjoy it, but it is a really tough business. I was responding to this line of yours, " I don't see why a freshly claimed horse couldn't be offered up on shares to the Racing Club." Also, "CLAIM ONE THAT IS RACING PLEASE". They did just claim a new filly that is racing but they are not including her in the club. The racing fillies in the club have not raced before.

      Do you mean DeGogue? The De Gogue has two settings one for lunging and another for ridden work. The De Gogue was invented by Frenchman Rene De Gogue. Use. To encourage correct muscle development. To ask for self carriage by encouraging the horse to use their muscles correctly. To release tension from the head, poll and neck. Everyone has their own methods and reasons. A good topic and training device. Another one Jay can put in his cache of training aides to pull out if and when needed down the road.

    These horses should not have halters on in the field. Lazy humans. horses can get their foot caught in the halter.

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  2 года назад +3

      Notice the the halters are made of leather, it's breakable if it gets caught on anything. Also these horses are closely watched. Being Thoroughbreds, they are not easy to handle. Halters are advisable. Lazy has nothing to do with it.
