Your grandfather got to see the Phillies win the 1980 World Series - in October - and the next month in November HE went up to Heaven a very happy man _
One of my favorite memories of all time. I was 13, and my mom said it was too late to stay up to watch the end of the game. But she kept watching, and then came and woke me up when she thought the Phils were about to win it. She didn't want me to miss the biggest moment in Phillies history, and it became a cool memory both for me as a Phillies fan, and for me and my Mom.
Doug DeBolt Sleeping at age 13...what? I was 14 and everyone I knew my own age and including neighbors who were even younger stayed up to watch this! Geez...
Doug DeBolt I remember that game ended at 11:29pm. I was in 10th grade and had 2 tests the next day in school but it didn't matter. Sports history in Philly was about to happen.
Me and my grandfather always watched the Phillies. What a night that was. When you look back I am sure not many times did you get a phone call from your grandfather but that night I did. We couldn’t watch it together but it was a moment we both cherished. I had a Phillies P patch I was going to get sewn on a jacket or sweatshirt instead I tucked it in my grandfather inner pocket of his suit in his casket.

hehehe...I was 9 years old in Kansas City. Still makes me sad looking at this LOL...but also in a strange way, a happy memory. It was my first year watching baseball, and watched Game 6 with my late Grandmother with two folding chairs in the middle of a livingroom of an empty house we were in the middle of moving into. So...I always think of her with this game. Im sure we'll both remember this til the day we die. Congrats to your Phils all these years later.
@David Mair The outrage over not having Harry and Whitey broadcast the 1980 WS is exactly why the rule was changed. Now the local markets in the World Series can have their radio affiliate provide live play by play along with the national radio and TV broadcasts.

1980 was the year Bob Costas joined NBC Sports, and he went on to be with the network for 39 years, working for Don Ohlmeyer, Michael Weisman, Dick Ebersol and current NBC Sports chairman (and former Turner Broadcasting executive) Mark Lazarus, and winning Emmys along the way, until he was finally let go from the network in 2019.
What's the name of the song used during the starting lineups for both the Royals at 20:40 and for the Phillies at 27:07? Resembles something like Van McCoy's "Do The Hustle." Very 70s Disco-like in 1980.
Anybody else here watching during the coronavirus? This is better than watching live games... One comment though: Everyone was so skinny back then! Few linebackers hitting baseballs... Mike Schmidt was a "beefcake" but even he was pretty slim by today's standards
These reporters just can't help themselves from asking the BUZZ KILLING question, to whomever it applies, "Are you coming back next year?" Let these guys enjoy their moment!
Does anybody know what the song is that playing during the last 1:20 or so of the video? I tried to Shazam it but Garagiola, Kubek and Seaver are talking over it and it can't pick it up. It's a great downtempo disco song kinda in the vein of The Hustle.

I hear ya! I was ten years old....my mom had worked for the Phillies for many years and had passed away from cancer in January of 1980...she LOVED them so much, I always said they won it for her :-)
actually, this was Philadelphia's 6th WS title
The A's had won 5 before ironically moving to Kansas City
description says the "FRANCHISE" not the "CITY" :P
Is there no 1979 WS game 7 broadcast on youtube?
Absolutely not, due to copyright issues between MLB and Sister Sledge.
Dana Long term
Actually as of late 2019, at least most of game 7 of the ‘79 World Series is now on RUclips
bryant gumbel's only world series for NBC. considering the way that team behaved during that season, was a legit question. i think bill white asked the same during the 77' celebration too.
I watched this While in the Army in the Barracks at Ft Eustis Virginia with guys from all over the USA that night and a couple from KC trash talking haha...Its cool to see where people were when these events happen! I had alot of bragging rights that year as a Philly fan cause all 4 sports teams went to the championship. Phillies were the only ones to win!
when they won that game I was out on the street with my buddies yelling screaming and blowing a red plastic horn
man, what is that music at the beginning of the game?
Giorgio Moroder - Chase (from Midnight Express)
My Uncle was there, someone at his work couldn't go and gave him 2 tickets, he was sitting next to some guy in a Gorilla mask.
The winning game in Philly🙏✝️ETCHED INTO MY BRAIN 4EVERRRRR 😎 thank you God for that and God bless all the Phillies that have passed away

Did you ever see Yankees' stadium in the mid to late 70s and their fans rushing the field? That was the reason why and also because after 97 years, the Phillies won the first championship ever!
