In this tutorial we are looking at a few ways to boot from a USB flash drive or hard drive, even if it's not supported by BIOS.
Very useful if you want to clean install Windows, but you don't want to burn it to DVD.
I tried to install Windows 7 from USB on my old "HP" laptop that does not support USB booting. Everything worked great.
In this tutorial we are looking at 2 different programs (kind of 1 really)
"Plop Linux" LiveCD
www.plop.at/en...
and
"Easy BCD"

Thank you so much, I spent all day trying to convert my pc over to linux with no avail. I had no BIOS or UEFI with my windows 8.1 and this worked like a charm. You saved me from giving up
This totally works. I have been trying to boot from USB for two days. This video and software helped saved my pc. I was about to toss it in the trash. Thanks a lots.
My PC was Xp in 2005, then windows 7 until now I've downloaded windows 10 pro with USB. 32 bit to 64 bit. Thank you, was having hard time enabling USB to be Bootable from the Bios. This worked great!
Thank you! EasyBCD made it possible for me to use clnpwd from boot usb to override admin PW lock on an Acer Aspire One D270-1375. It allowed me to clear/reset the bios. I now have full control of my netbook again thanks to you. Ebay seller sold it to me locked without disclosing. Grr! ;-)
After all these year still top notch tut
Amazing tutorial, you save a lot of time and money to old pc users. ***** :)
Thank you! This saved me when formatting an old computer!
*An* old computer
Plop Linux worked wonders!
Easiest and best method by far.
Ty
Install PLoP is grayed out and I cant press it. Not very usefull.
You saved us from buying a new laptop thankyou bro! Much respect
I like the way you don't waste our time with a screencast drenched in raunchy music and no commentary.
Thank you very much for the video. Anyway, none of the solutions worked for me. Unluckily i bought a NEC VersaPro laptopand it accept to boot only from the internal optical drive and from the hard disk. Nothing (till now) that i tried, make it to boot from usb. Sadly.
I am another subscriber of yours!!!
Thanks man this really helped me out a lot!
Hahaha... You solved problems for those GigaByte motherboard who won't boot from USB.. I've been googling for months.. nobody was talking about EasyBCD.. Thanks Danny

This option is not available for EFI............. im doomed :(

11,on my freinds hp desktop which does not have usb boot in it.,thankyou so much indeed sir, steve from the uk
Sadly doesn't work on GPT partitions and UEFI
It seems that if one installs the 64-bit program the boot is at 64 bits and if the machine is 32 bits it does not work.
I see "Windows 7" in your video. Can this technique work on computers from the early windows xp era?
Yes xp uses BCD so it can be done

Sorry, I know this video is old, but I need help! I downloaded the Easy BCD, and restarted my computer. I saw the BCD, and clicked on it! Everything went smoothly. I had a USB drive plugged into my computer, with a Kali Linux .ISO on it. I clicked on: Boot from USB. It said it did not find the USB, when it was clearly plugged in. Huh?
Thank you very much.. It worked for me.. love u
Good work, thanks!
Nop. When I try to make an HD "usb acceptable", I receive a message similar to "it's not possible to bla bla bla if your native computer doesn't accept usb".
Hello. I have a Tochiba nb305, I managed to install the plop but it freezes at "loading boot sector"
Have the same issue.
Hi..you have a beautiful Accent man .. awesome.
Well I tried booting my PC via USB through the EasyBCD thing, while booting I got the option for the USB thing and when I clicked it, it showed me this
LODING EHCI DRIVER
SEARCHING ON HOSTS
HOST 1
PORT3 : DEVICE CONNECTE
and then nothing happened, my USB is a Bootable USB with windows 7 in it done with RUFUs. And I have used the usb in my laptop for the same, though my Laptop has a usb booting option. So after that all the system freezes and even ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work and I have to switch it off though the power button.
Kindly suggest me, what am I doing wrong.
Thanks in Advance.. Cheers Mate

You're welcome!
When I follow your steps, start plop after restarting the computer and select the usb option, it says 'Boot error, no boot device found, retry it' even though the usb stick is plugged in. I've also tried different usb sticks and different usb connectors with the same results. I'm running Windows 7 sp1 64bit, the usbs I tried were Kingston and Transcend. Where's the problem? Thanks.
Does this still work?
Great video! My dang Asrock x579 Extreme4 keeps losing the ability to see flash drives even in the bios and boot menu yet my keyboard and mouse work just fine. Not even my Inateck PCIe to USB 3.0 adapter can see them. Even cleared my CMOS. Any idea how that could happen?

How to do this on a tablet that does not have option to boot from USB or SD Card
Old Sony laptop, CD player does not recognize windows install dvd. No USB selection in Bios. And I want to install windows XP. So this is a no go.
Can anybody confirm if this still work in May 2021? Please I need to know because I'm on a Asus Pn5-D and I've been trying to update this thing from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro for 2 weeks now. The media creation tool download keeps getting stuck on 30% and my PC won't even let me boot the Flash USB from my Bios so I think I'm just completely stuck at this point.

FYI. Just wasted time trying to make this EasyBCD to work for Windows XP 32bit boot for USB boot for bios. After downloading Netfxsp1_x86 , Netfxsp2_x86,WindowsInstaller-kb893803-v2-86. I got both EasyBCD2.4 and EasyBCD2.0.1 to run and worked in xp but didn't find in my HP old media center PC the boot configuration data which can't be opened. An error message quotes in EasyBCD2.4 application states:
PLEASE NOTE THAT EASYBCB BOOTLOADER(INSTALLED BY DEFAULT ON WINDOWS VISTA AND HIGHER), AND WILL NOT WORK IN XP-ONLY ENVIRONMENTS. So, If you guys find another easier way please comment for future reference. Thanks
well i tried to install plop to hard drive but the laptop runs at the windows 8 and the pc normally boots from UEFI ......as a result and due to UEFI, the programm easy bcd doesnt install plop to internal made external hard drivee...... any ideas?
not working 2019.
did as you told (third choice) but the computer keeps restarting all the time.. (disk is shown on the bios at the begining)
*Gnu Grub* may help you.
