Here I am again watching one of your 5 year old videos and it is great. I like your method of measuring, just dump some in there. That’s exactly how I cook. I’m going to try this recipe. Thanks again.
Discovered your channel about 1.5 years ago and seen this video. Been makin these corn fritters ever since. Thanks for the knowledge man. Woods > Hoods
I just tried this recipe, YUMMY!!!!! I love it, Hubby loves it, a double whammy for sure. Thanks for posting it, even tho it was a couple years ago, It is very, very, very good!!!!!!
Pretty southern of you. Watching made me think about my cornbread. I used to put in creamed corn but now I use a small can of chopped green Chile’s. It would rock with your chili. I did try the Dutch oven bread over the holidays. Came out great!
You rock Dan! Everything you do is solid! Glad to see you are teaching, especially to your son. I saw his vid, 5 yes old, starting fire and making cocoa, awesome AF!
I tried this for the first time this last October at elk camp following you recipe. They were awesome! I had them with elk back strap that I also battered and fried in the skillet. Damn fine meal. These corn fritters will now be a standard when ever we go camping.
Good, Had to try these as soon as the video was over so cooked on stove and was out of creamed corn so used small can of mushroom bits and pieces & and used Canola oil. Was still good. Going to try it with bacon grease next time I am out and have a campfire going for breakfast.
Nice recipe Dan and I'm going to give it shot tonight. Quick tip on how to judge how hot your oil is. Take the handle end of your wooden cooking spoon and place it in the hot oil, if it starts to bubble or foam, your oil is hot enough so you won't waste any product. Keep putting out these great vids mate. Cheers!
I made these today and followed the recipe. OMG! So good. Definitely making these again. I just ate them with no powdered sugar. I fried them in coconut oil instead of crisco. Thanks! Love the channel.
Can't have flour. Gonna try it with coconut flour or almond meal. Been revamping old recipes for gluten free for about 10 years. Used to love these & made them often with home made creamed corn + fresh thyme. Now am thinking if this works will mix up all dry ingredients in a reused (from my kids chips) clean chip bag with mylar + iron together for seal. Will be easy & inexpensive for travel anywhere. Then just add h2o & grease to cook it in. Yes! And coconut oil is stable for portability. That works. Thanks for jump starting this into reality.
I do love corn fritters! I did a video on making them just a week ago, though mine were made like pancakes. Ill have to try frying them next time. When I did a little research on them I found that there are lots of different ways to make them and lots of different things people call corn fritters. BTW, 5 or 6 good strips of bacon should give you enough bacon grease to fry them up. ;) Thanks for the video.
Those look really good guy. Good to see somebody else who likes to just be out there and cook in the woods. And the crunching sound was killing me while you're eating them I'm headed home getting out the cast iron and get started
I believe you can test how hot the oil is by using a piece of wood like your wooden spatula. The oil will bubble around the stick when it's ready for frying. Those fritters look good. I will half to give this a try. Thanks
I make something very similar and call them johnnycakes. I use fine ground cornmeal instead of flour and I add a bit of cinnamon. They are great for breakfast.
In my family we make cornbread with more sugar in it. Put it in a bowl with milk and call that Johnnycakes. It is amazing how these old recipes have many different things with the same name.
"Johnny cakes" is actually slang. They were called journey cakes. Because scouts, explorers, mountain man...etc would make them for long hikes or a day in the woods.
Speaking of a sugar hack, my family would eat these with syrup and we would have bacon or sausage for protein. It was a favorite when the electricity went out and we would cook on the kerosene stove.
Those are very good I haven't had corn fritters in coons age. I made bannock last night. I been thinking chili for couple months I will make corn fritters when make chili if I can ever get dug out
That's a really good idea to conserve your oil and reuse it the Pioneers reuse their oil as much as they could then they would use it in oil lamps or Reed lamps resources were scarce
I don’t believe I’ve had them just like this I’ve eat grated corn bread and just cornbread fritters a lot but I’ll have to give this a try the grated cornbread you let your corn get just a Little past good corn on the cob it will be a little gummy then mamie takes it from there lol it’s good we used lard for years but now we use crisco don’t raise hogs no more just ain’t able to fool with em anymore anyway good video Daddy Dan

Damn, dude, I'm from Iowa, so it's always a surprise when I see a new way to eat corn. Definitely gonna try this!
Corn fritters is a PA staple bro. Love those things. Especially with some bacon.
Pretty southern of you. Watching made me think about my cornbread. I used to put in creamed corn but now I use a small can of chopped green Chile’s. It would rock with your chili. I did try the Dutch oven bread over the holidays. Came out great!

Happy you liked them!
Also, temp test. Notice you have snow, flick a bit in or a flick of water. And your videos with Townsend's, not watching much TV. Very good.
Love both the channels mentioned. Townsend is full of knowledge
Also you could put a drop of water in the oil to see if it's ready.

Nice sounding crunch.
Those looked and sounded yummy! Got to give that one to go! Thanks for sharing Pard!

If the oil bubbles around your spatula it is either damp/wet or has old food residue on it
I have been looking for something like this. Just made a batch, oh man, good

Yep, Johnnycake is what I know then as also.
Can't wait to try this at elk camp this year.
Looks great
Man those fritters look great.
Looks great- thanks. Do you folks have corn meal or is it still just a southern thing?
Looks excellent! I very much want to try it- maybe I could make corn blin/pancakes & possibly a crust made of all that mashed-up?
Very nice...the real deal. 🤠🤠🤠
Looks good
That crunch!!!yummmm
Speaking of a sugar hack, my family would eat these with syrup and we would have bacon or sausage for protein. It was a favorite when the electricity went out and we would cook on the kerosene stove.
You should be the kitchen expert on an episode of bar rescue sometime
Thanks. Looks really good surprised that I have just now gotten this.
While it is still hot, Put a coffee filter in jar with rubber band holding it on rim. I also do this to filter awesome bacon grease.
Not much snow for January. What is this state?
Man those look good. I might have to give those a go...
A bit of Maple Syrup for dipping , YUMMM
Looks very good! Thanks for the post, off to make some fritters :-)

I really enjoy your cooking presentations. Maybe you could whittled chopsticks and make an Asian meal like lo mein or ramen.
Looks amazing!
Can you use just a normal egg?
I’m going to making some of these
Those are very good I haven't had corn fritters in coons age. I made bannock last night. I been thinking chili for couple months I will make corn fritters when make chili if I can ever get dug out
Where do you get the tins for your sugar?
That's a really good idea to conserve your oil and reuse it the Pioneers reuse their oil as much as they could then they would use it in oil lamps or Reed lamps resources were scarce
Where do you get your flint and steel from?
Looks awesome! Is that solar windmills in the background? That's cool stuff!
Windmills yes on the mountain above the school property
That's awesome. Enjoy your channel!

I want a Filson Sponsorship. I love those flannel shirts but they’re definitely not in my budget. Lol
Salt doesn’t activate baking powder, heat and moisture do.
Haha at you age you won't be growing up on them. You'll be growing "out"! Don't ask me how I know....
Yeah the bread video was ok but I like cornbread
Where are you located? I see the windmill in the background. ;-)

"Honey? When did I eat corn?"
Throw a little bit of diced chili pepper in there and load me up please

That’s because they don’t got no culture.
Fried em, tried em, ate em all gone
Looks good, but can corn is horrendous.frozen corn much better.
good oil is lard, not the man made stuff.
Yikes, reusing cheap oxidized oil is a recipe for health problems.
