About 8 months ago something you said clicked about the “bush fit” status and it has been a really fun 7 months. I got a ways to still but I’ve lost 50 lbs and look completely different already. I still eat donuts or whatever but just bust my @s$ and work off whatever I eat. Definitely mostly eat organic/grass fed foods but I didn’t have to go on any crazy diet or weird gimmick training routine. I just bought weights here and there for a home gym and refused to give myself excuses when I didn’t want to move em. 👊🏼BIG THANKS🏆
S’more nuts - flatten out the biscuit, add a couple of mini marshmallows and some chocolate chips. Fold the biscuit over the goodies and roll it into a ball. Drop it in the oil, fry it, pull it out when done and into the cinnamon sugar. Delicious!!!
"--Suddenly, a horde of carb-crazed squirrels scamper out of the underbrush and ATTACK DAN'S BEARD, BAN-SUGAR-ZAAAAAAII!!!!" ...My brain, folks. This is the caliber & quality of people who love watching these videos!
I've made a ton of these on the stove, but never thought about trying it at the camp site. I usually deep fry them- I can see grease fires in my near future.
Wow, I have actually done that in an eight cup aluminum coffee pot. That is so great that you are doing that. I almost forgot that I could do that! Thanks so much!!
I remember when my family made these back in the late 90s or so. We used a (clean) empty pill bottle to punch out the holes. The Grands Biscuits are too big, though, because they will either burn or not cook all the way, but they can be cut up and then cooked like this. Also, we were doing it on a stove top, not a campfire.
A jar of sugar and cinnamon from the spice section at the market would be the perfect accessory. Just wondering how not to waste all that oil. an improvised oil lamp, perhaps?
Soemone has been raiding my cookbook, that’s my Christmas morning donut recipe. Instead of ring shaped I cut the disk in half using a metal spatula so that I am left with dough in the shape of a lemon wedge …. Btw dipping the final product in ReaLemon concentrate and then dredging on powdered sugar is delish
That's Totally Awesome!!!! Nice taste test on sugar, 😂👍. Never a dull moment and just Awesome video. I love the idea of donuts in the woods . Sweet !!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪
You guys are right on in the wild or at your cabin doesn't matter nice presentation you need me for your right hand man guaranteed I'll do better let's just see y'all have a great day and stay safe and keep your powder dry!
Hey Dan, in the Boy Scouts, we used to cut each biscuit in 1/2, flatten it out a bit, and wrap it around a Hershey’s Kiss. Seal it up good, then fry it and coat it in sugar 😎😎😎
In Louis L'Amour westerns cowboys called donuts bear sign. 😀 The reason for the hole is it helps the center to cook evenly. If you want,it is easy to put the toppings in the donuts kinda like fritters. An apple fritter is great.
I'd rather "re-read" a Louis L'Amour western than some others as not everyone has his style and manner. He was such a wonderful writer and the books are like visiting old friends again. It brought back memories regarding bear sign. Dan, I will probably be ordering 2-3 Bushcrafting for kids books...another great idea to write that book too.
Cast Iron is great for moderating the temperature of an open fire. Tip for more primitive campers with lightweight cookware: Wait for fire to go out (start with lots of wood - more than you thing is enough) so you can cook over the hot coals (no flames). This produces a much more uniform heat for vastly improved cooking conditions. 😀🍩 btw many hikers favor Nutella as a go to backpacker food item - good doughnut topper maybe.
Donuts are a no-no for me, but I watched the video anyway for the entertainment value. Of course, I wasn't disappointed, and even literally LOLed a few times. Love this channel!!
Woah, these look good. Also just received my 8x8 oilskin tarp from you, looks great! Bringing it to the Pathfinder Scout class that's coming up in a few weeks, I'm sure it will serve me well!
I once took a boys ministry group camping on a creek. I cooked a soup with creek water...blew their minds. I then made doughnuts. However, they didn't pay much attention. So, when we got back, I had several phone calls from confused mothers asking how to cook doughnuts with creek water...admittedly most did not know that doughnuts were fried...so yeah 😅
I would imagine if you wanted to make filled donuts in the field, it'd be easy enough to do with a basting syringe of some sort, as long as you don't have jelly that's full of seeds. Probably best to throw the filling in before dropping them in the fry too?
I'm thinking make donuts in the morning, and then for lunch, using the oil to cook chicken tenders or wings. Cause I know that's gonna be a righteous mess so might as well get maximum use out of it. And I whatever the biscuit let go should be fine on the chicken. Anyways great vid, thanks for expanding our tool belt
My scouts love these. Tried them with powdered sugar once but they need to be completely cooled before adding the powdered sugar and who likes cold donuts? Cinnamon sugar is much better!
This was awesome! Gonna try this in the beginning of May when we go camping next. I really need a cast iron dutch oven. I can see my firebox stove working great for this no problem. You guys are great! Looks like you guys have a good time! Take care. NQU
@@frankdesjardins503 oh wow!! I actually DO have a harbor freight near me! I had no idea they carried cast iron dutch ovens! We go apple pick camping in early September, cuz that’s when the honeycrisps are ready and I can see us makin an awesome apple crisp with it! Oh man!! The possibilities!
If were not 100% roughing it, you can make cakes in your Dutch oven using charcoals briquettes on the bottom and top of it. There are guides online explaining placement of, and number of briquettes for the top and bottom for oven temperature
Sweet! When you made the mess in the woods, immediately thought of the Sweedish Cheff. Stay safe all.

Donut holes are delicious, called Tim Bits in Canada
I was going to make this comment lol
Called munchkins in the northeast US
Mom used to make these when I was younger. Put the sugar and cinnamon, donuts in a paper bag, and shake them.
This is a fun channel. Subscribed
Fun, Fun, Fun. Thanks for another bush-craft delight .. Cheers 🙂
My grandkids would love this idea when we go out
Thanks for the idea 👍🏻
Love how hyper you were during this video! Can't wait to try this out.
Survival donuts! YEESsss! I like the way you think!
Donuts in the woods? Yum, what a luxury 😋
My Scoutmaster used to make these all the time back in the day. Good stuff.
It rained today but next weekend we're going to make these for breakfast!
Some maple glaze and bacon bits…Thanks for the video. Have a great day
That audio on the oil test!!🔥❤

Donuts and bushcraft? You got me.
👍 Nice camping treat, but not sure they are donuts. Look more like biscuits with holes in them to me. But, hey, who doesn’t like biscuits. Good video.
You two crack me up! And I will try the donuts!

I envision these being made and then slathered with Nutella, then dipped in cinnamon/sugar.
Drool!
Great idea, thanks from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Hi from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your cooking adventures ( USA).
Hello from British Columbia Canada
🇨🇦👋👍♥️🍩
I've made a ton of these on the stove, but never thought about trying it at the camp site. I usually deep fry them- I can see grease fires in my near future.
My dad would make these on the stove. Delicious!
We have had donuts just like that for years. Our kids and grandkids have grown up on those for breakfast when camping. 😊
Sounds like a good time, woods and donuts
I live in PA, that was some weird weather we had last weekend. The snow was like little Styrofoam balls. I was outside that day too. It was fun!
I went to Lewistown and back from Camp Hill and those snow squalls were intense as that I-81 pile up attested to.
I just made these at a festival and they got ATE! The cornbread version is also good
Really Good Donuts 🍩
Wow, I have actually done that in an eight cup aluminum coffee pot. That is so great that you are doing that. I almost forgot that I could do that! Thanks so much!!
Donuts are great
Camping donuts I'm definitely going to try these next time i go camping with my kids
The Donuts looks delicious
Now ,I have to wait for the cook book. Nice job.👍

Great for the kid! What an amazing way to create memories!
Simple and tasty looking. I loved it when you just threw the cinnamon sugar. Can’t make a mess out here lol 😂
Survival Donuts! My new must have in my bug out bag.
Great job! Consider this idea stolen!!! They looked delicious!
Me, who dislikes, almost hates doughnuts. “Ah, a new coal cracker video, better watch and learn this vital information” Great videos as always Dan.
A jar of sugar and cinnamon from the spice section at the market would be the perfect accessory.
Just wondering how not to waste all that oil. an improvised oil lamp, perhaps?
I use an empty parmesan cheese container for my sugar cinnamon mix
Hahaha I loved the flare that you gave in this video! So awesome! I will for sure need to try this next time I go out camping! :D
Alex!! Those donuts are a NEHHA staple!!
We had to share it with the world
Going have to try them next time I am out. Thanks for the vid.

Welcome to PA. Snow on Wednesday, 70 F on Thursday. Literally.

Messy indeed
LoL 🤣. They look good!
This is awesome ! Thanks for the recommendation ! Definitely giving it a shot this summer camping
They made my mouth water 5 days later and two states away. I think I will introduce these to our Trail Life USA troop.
Yep I’ve had bannock donuts.
Quick question- how do you avoid tick bites, going out into the woods so often?
Awesome as always. Not bushcraft related, but I’m still patiently waiting for a video on Alex’s ambulance.
Good stuff
Great fun. thanks.
Awesome! Thanks!

Just pre-ordered my book.
You got to have the donuts holes for later.

We get the same weather in Maryland.
I call you Sugar Beard...lol, Great video!!!
I love it!
Hey I made donuts on a wood stove already… excellent video as always.
That's typical April weather here in England

OMG love it
years ago a mom in a nearby camp did these for breakfast for her kids. she used her frying pan vs a dutch oven.
Man! That's a good idea! 🤠👍💯
We used to make these in scouts when I was a kid
Can't wait to order your 9×9 tarp!
We make fry bread the same way, except we have to make the dough. Even down to the cinnamon sugar topping.
You'll never believe it, my Boy Scout Troop just made these at our last campout, two weeks ago!

You can get a Dutch oven at most Walmart’s and cheaper at harbor freight tools if you have one near you
Interesting. But is biscuit dough the same as donut dough. I'm thinking adding sugar to the biscuit dough maybe?

Notquiteultralight,
It's not cooking without a cast iron dutch oven.
A learning curve, but eating your mistakes is more than half the fun ...
U want weather come to Missouri, we git all 4 every day
Come to idaho the weather is the same way
Ok can't see the link for what kind of buiscets I assume a sweet dough one
What type of biscuit mix is it?
For my part of Alberta that would be normal in the late spring what state are you in
My granny called them wampum biscuit cause she would wampum on the edge of the stove to open them.
Sure do miss her, R.I.P. grandma, love you
Sweet!!
My Boy Scouts like making and eating these.
You're a maniac, I approve.... lol

Great job, I liked it. I also recently started making videos about hiking and bushcraft and it's pretty good. Greetings from Belarus!
