American sports are entertainment. It doesn't mean they're not passionate. But they have mastered the art of entertainment.

I was in my High School Marching Band for 2 years (also in Ohio) as part of the Color Guard (flag, baton, ribbon, and rifle twirling) and I can confirm that high school marching band is grueling work. We prepared and practiced for MONTHS before parade and football season starts. Including during our summer break when we had band camp - which again, grueling. People truly underestimate the work and dedication it takes to be in a marching band.... hours and hours and hours in the heat, cold, sun, rain, snow, muscles aching, sweat dripping down into your eyes, going back and forth on the field to learn every foot placement and every movement of your body over and over again until it becomes muscle memory because each and every person needs to be in sync (you can't even march in place if you're not supposed to - it can be seen and its a major no-no during band competition... I should know, I got called out for it).... and my school's Band Director lead us with a tough military attitude she learned when she was actually in the military and part of the Military Band. I don't know if it's just an Ohio thing but marching band is taken seriously in many circles and perfection is expected, even in high school, perhaps BECAUSE our college band - the Ohio State University band - is so heralded throughout the country. (The Best Damn Band in the Land!!!) Just as high school football players are scouted out by college teams, the marching band department scouts out exceptional band members as well. It is a whole thing that causal football fans probably know little about.

The band does about 30 hours of practice for each program
They are given IPads with the Choreography and Music that they memorize for each program. This is the only College Drum/brass band in the US.

I don't know if it's ironic or what, but there's 12 commercial breaks every half of the game and they still don't broadcast these halftime marching band shows.

American football becomes much faster paced once you actually understand the rules and strategies, even with the adverts. Advertisements are a thing in American sports in general, not just the NFL (take a look at the NBA and MLB).

If you want to see the band from the ship that was just sunk, watch the University of Michigan Band play “We Remember (MC).

So Harry Potter is a Hollywood movie now? Sorry we stole your movie man.
In American football there are less commercials during the regular season. You probably mostly see the playoff games. Each team basically has 2 teams. An offensive and a defensive team. When they have a change of possession, both teams take all their players off the field and put different players on. This is when you see a commercial.
There's a Japanese high school band of young ladies that are world famous. Lots of videos of them on RUclips. Called the Kyoto Tachibana S.H.S. Band.

Believe me, nobody in the stands enjoys a five minute advertisement break when it’s freezing rain.
