      This is a beautiful thing. For decades people has been accused of crimes and put behind bars before they ever go to trial. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The justice system has no right to jail a person and keep them before proving their guilt. EVERY PERSON SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO PROVE THEIR INNOCENSE BEFORE BEING JAILED.       Illinois has realized holding people in jail simply because they are poor isn't a good system, letting people out who haven't been proven guilty for nonviolent offenses pretrial make sense while holding violent suspects in custody until their trial keeps people safe.

      @@skankhunt3624 Poor or rich, they are all criminals. They are just releasing “non-violent” now because of publicity, but the safe-t act allows for violent offenders to be released also. Have no doubt violent offenders will be released as soon as the spotlight is taken off of it. This is the same as illegal border crossers being told to show up for court five years from now. They just won’t show up! And no agency will seem to have the funding to pursue them, so they will go scott free.

      @@johng6080 you do NOT have the right to judge a person at all. Only in a court of law. Now on the other hand if I saw a person kill someone they would never have a day in Court. I'd kill them myself. I open carry and I'm proud of the 2nd amendment.

      ​@@johng6080David makes a very valid point, but we should be holding violent suspects in-custody pretrial. Luckily these new measures only release poor people who couldn't afford bail, and still keep dangerous criminals locked away.

      Probably should work out completely fine. I don't see how letting nonviolent offenders out pre trial has anything to do with keeping violent criminals locked up pre trial.

    All inmates should have counseling drug alcohol treatment and upon supervision be allowed to live in sober living homes not just released back into society smh !

      Do you want drunk drivers back on the road right after arrest? This is a very subjective law...look at Chicago crime now it's going to be the same throughout the state. Hell downtown St Louis is just as bad. I'll be honest. I visit downtown St Louis maybe twice a year and I walk down the street smoking a preroll because I know the cops aren't going to do anything especially since weed is legal now
