- Sapele is a wood from tropical Africa and you won't believe how it looks when turned and finely finished... but you have to because you can see it with your own eyes! You might need some shades...
A lovely wood to work with, it turns like butter under a sharp gouge and makes terrific shavings!
Thanks again to Kevin Gaddis for giving me this wood!!
I used Ack's products after sanding to a very nice shine, and wow...

Thank you and your service is much appreciated!
Absolutely Beautiful Rod! ❤
Much appreciated!
That's a wowser my friend 😊
Breath taking beautiful!
Thank you Rod for another great video. Many years ago I had connections with a major lumber/timber supplier. The top class builders had a great demand for sapele, mahogany and afromosia in that order to make doors and their surrounds in that order so I have been associated with those woods for a long time. The bowl turned out just beautiful.
Semper Fi.
Thank you, my friend. I'm sure those connections are missed these days!
Very satisfying video to watch, yet more importantly, to enjoy seeing you use your God given talents to His glory.
Thank you very much, and I hope so! 😊
Nicely done sir. I pray that you and the family are doing well. Semper Fi!

Peace be with you.

Very Nice Bowl. Semper Fi.
Thank you, Paul!
What a stunning piece!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful as always. I put on my shades 😎. A tip I got from a furniture repair channel. Use dental floss ( tape) to force the glue, or in your case resin, down into the crack.
That's a very good tip, Peter, thank you! 😎
Hi dear new friend thanks for share beautiful work see you soon ❤
Thank you very much!
Wie immer Good Job ,Sir!
Really beautiful, Rod. As you were turning, I was thinking about another bag of shavings - then I read your notes.

Thank you very much, Harold!
A beautiful piece.
I have been making a lot of sapele bowls lately. Usually a bowl from a board. It is my new favorite wood. Thanks for posting. Rather expensive wood but beautiful.
It's a great wood to turn, isn't it? In my favorites list as well. Thank you!
WOW, JUST WOW!! BZ shipmate!
Wow. I never get enough of watching a well-done segmented turning. Rod, I believe you and ThePapa1947 are the masters of this genre. Thanks for the video.
Wow one of my favorites
I appreciate that, Bonny!
Very nice! I agree with you about Sapele. A few years ago I got a Sapele board 9/4x9'x2' for a countertop project. I only used one-half of it so I turned a few bowls. Not one of them has cracked or warped.
Thank you, Jim! Wow, that must have been quite a countertop!!
Beautiful bowl Rod.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful work! A hug from a friend here in Brazil, I have learned a lot from your videos.
Glad to hear that, Carlos, muito obrigado!
Un capolavoro, unico, fantastico !!!

That bowl is absolutely amazing. Now down to the shop to cut some segments.
Thanks again, my friend! Happy segmenting!
@@RHumphrey is there a way to show you my sapele bowl?
@@mvecellio1 you can post in on my FB page (Rod Humphrey) or email (check this video description) a pic to me, I'd love to see it!
Wow that's amazing!
Thanks very much! 😊
Beautiful piece
Thank you very much!
The changing colours are incredible awesome and quite! Such a simple shape and yet so utterly mesmerising. One of the most beautiful bowls you have ever made in my view. Mr Humphrey you are an artist. Semper Fi.
Ooops! Meant 'quite awesome and Incredible!'
Thank you, I appreciate that!
I actually prefer it when you talk. So many wood turning channels don't talk, and it gets annoying for me. Because then it feels like I'm watching the same channel over and over. You explaining what you're doing adds to the experience and helps it feel more destinct. It adds more charm, I guess.
I appreciate that feedback very much. I'm actually not a very talkative person by nature, so if I defer to more of the shop noise, that is often the reason. But, I'll continue to narrate on the regular basis. Thank you!
I love it
It seems to be electrified. SEMPER FI
I sure does!
The chatoyance in the pieces is amazing. What a beautiful bowl Rod.
Thank you , Jean! One of the flashiest bowls I've ever made!
That is some breathtaking wood! And you chose an excellent shape to highlight it. Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
I just finished a commissioned piece that was sapele - I was completely blown away at the beauty of the wood. You took the beauty to a new level
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Pretty piece. I recently watched Pappa1947 do a walnut segmented bowl. Now, after seeing your Sapele bowl I’m pretty determined that I’ll do another segmented piece before too long. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Doug! Black walnut is another special wood, lots of potential flash in it as well. Gary's a super nice man and talented turner!
That is a breathtaking piece!
Awesome job Rod
Thank you very much!
Another beautiful piece Rod, you never cease to amaze me, thanks for sharing.
You're very kind, thank you!😊
@@RHumphrey You are very talented.
Very beautiful piece Rod!
The chatoyance in that wood is amazing.
Have been avoiding a segmented piece yet, simply because I don't have the patience for the glue up. But to be able to avoid having to deal with end grain and get all side grain has me rethinking. Maybe one of these days, with the right wood...🤔

😮 WOW
Much appreciated!
Way COOL
Sooo satiny!!
Thanks so much!
