Please, never take this video down. It is by far the most interesting, most instructional video I've seen on the modern game. Kudos to you for putting it together.
I've been bowling for 17 years-since I was five. This is easily the most informative video I've seen in that time. Great work, Dean. And thanks for posting!
This was a great study and I was talking with my pro shop tech about this same subject. There are so many moving parts in reagards to this game that if you want to be good you have to master them. This one is one of the hardest to do, but when you can command this techique along with your mental game you will be a hard player to stop. Thank you for taking time out and doing this study. I can't see why anyone would waste time to say anything negative about this clip.
This is incredible. My game has improved drastically simply from watching, re-watching, studying, and mimicking the things Dean points out in this video. This is, bar none, the best video on bowling mechanics, form, technique, and execution. No question.
Excellent video. Glad to see the variety of swings and releases. Especially happy to see you included the left handers.Visualizing seems to be much easier for the bowler to understand. Appreciate the work that was put into this.
Awesome video. I took up bowling last year and ended the season with a decent average for a rookie (175 ). I've hit a "sophmore slump" and my average has plummeted to 160. This video has helped me see some of the things I've been ignoring this year and also some new things I can try. Thanks
Going from a two finger style of bowling to the traditional way with my thumb in the ball. This video is helping me study to be better at releasing the ball. Thank you...this has to be the best instructional bowling video on the web Dean Champ
I just wanna say that this is probably the most informative and assisting vid or tutorial on bowling I have ever seen. This video is awesome. Thank you for creating and posting this video. It has assisted me greatly. This is a great thing for the game.
I've been learning to bowl for a year now. I'm a ~170 average-bowler and was looking for a video just like this to take my game further. Perfect.. thanks!
I have been looking for a video like this== the breakdown and slow motion is just what I needed. Better information than my instructor gave me. I never realized how pro bowlers were getting so much power and hook! Thanks so much!!!
I like this video for a few reasons. First and foremost, it does not try to "teach" someone a correct way of bowling, but analyzes the professionals and reports on the key aspects of their game. Secondly, it shows a great mix of players, all with different approaches and neglects to mention them because all of these key parts of the pros' games can be adapted to any efficient approach. Excellent video!
Thanks for posting this video. For years I have been trying to find a step by step video to help my game and this video breaks it down. I can't wait to practice and implement these techniques. Wish me luck.
The best video on the arm swing and most importantly. the release I have ever seen. It makes me want to get back into the game. Please keep your videos coming. Thanks
Sleeper video of the modern release broken down. A lot of people glaze over the topic with a bunch of general knowledge, but this video breaks down each stage of the release with multiple examples. This is so important because no release is exactly the same, but the basic principles applied are. A+ even with no audio commentary. Some words of description and then video evidence. If a picture is worth a thousand words then video might be worth millions!
i pitch in kickball and have started studying bowling to see if those skills are transferrable -- and i believe the answer is definitely yes. this video has given me some great ideas technique-wise to try out with my kickball pitching mechanics. fantastic work, thanks for posting.
Thank you much for the composition of this video. I can only imagine how much work and time it took in editing. This video will help me much in the improvement of my ball release.
Thanks for a great look at the swing. It seems really easy to mimic their swings when you watch in full speed. This really opened up my eyes for my problems with hooking the ball. This will definitely give a few things to try when I'm practicing and hopefully that will translate into more consistent scores for my game.
I had working with Brian Voss in colombia many times, I follow the Slowinsky instruction in the web and use some tips from Rick Benoit and in this video you resume many many tips from they....is a very good resume..thankyou... I will use this in my classes..
Best bowling video ever. It's difficult to learn how to bowl when no one can demonstrate the correct methods. This allows you to visualize the proper technique and work towards appropriate technique. Thanks for creating this and sharing.
I've applied some of these teqniques into my game and my consistency has improved tremendously. My Rev rate has definitely gone up, which is something I've wanted to have happen for a long time. like dude, your video seriously helped me a lot. Took a couple weeks because everything felt weird at first, but now I'm comfortable with it all
Excellent composition and presentation. Very tutorial. I will refer to it again to help fine tune my delivery and decide what is right for me. I think this vid has the guidance I have been looking for.. Many thanks Dean!
1 verbiage/terminology refinement: knee continuation vs. center of gravity or maybe stance. What you are terming as knee continuation is an effect of the bowlers transitioning from a strong core, vertical upper body, well balance plant with their ball in hand to a stance which maintains their center of gravity without the ball and compensating for momentum. The key is ballanced, strong plant step prior to throwing the ball allows them to grip the ball more effectively and release it with those extra revs.
Dean - outstanding job of putting it all together - well done from an editing standpoint, even better tying it so neatly to the information from Joe and Jim. I'm sending this to several of my friends and putting it on Facebook. This is an instant coaching classic!
This is fucking awesome and one of if not the best informational bowling vid ive seen on youtube. The slow motion of all the pros is great. Its just fun to watch releases in slow motion
Great video - thanks! This illustrates very clearly some of the radical differences between "new school" and "old school" bowlers. Today's game rewards a different style.
Great video. A lot of things to be learned just by watching some of the best in the world doing there thing. Have been wanting to see something like this for quite a while. Keep em coming!
I taught myself how to bowl thanks to videos like this. This being the best of any I have seen and probably would have been a fantastic find a couple of years ago but I have recommended it to a few bowlers and I hope it serves them as well as it would have for me :) thanks!
One of the best videos on youtube! Thumbs up and continue your good work. you have many fans now!!! The analysis is accurate and Ive improved my game by alot !!! Thanks a bunch
I was like you 2 months ago, but you have to keep practicing.. you just need to relax, the movement is so natural at the end that when you start hooking the ball it becomes automatic. I had a lot of help watching videos like this, my mistake was that I needed to slow the speed a little so I can cup the ball in a better way and get more revs. Hope this helps.. and great video!
Awesome!!! I have been bowling since July and this really helps!!! These are all my problem spots in my game and I have been trying to find a video to help with all my needs! Thank you!!!
I bowled my first 700 this past weekend but always looking to get better, I think I'll have to take a look at my release in a lot of detail. I like the fact of following your head for better timing, thumb pointing down in the end. See if I can incorporate that in my style. Thanks for the video!
The ¨cup un-cup¨ of the release has to do with revs as much as it has to do with control, if you ¨hit up¨on the ball, then your ball motion gets very agressive and jumpy. Thats why so many of them follow through to the left side, trying to ¨roll¨ the ball, not ¨grab¨ it. Great video.
Very nice!! It should also be obvious that different patterns require differences in hand, swing arc, cupping and many other mechanical attributes of the ball release.
Great video. It's funny because I just four finished watching the shark open which you have clips of in this video. Chris Barnes bowled a 300 that game! I'm trying to improve from 170 to the 200s and this video helps a lot.
came 9 years later to laugh because that follow through makes it pretty much impossible to hit up on it, which far too many people do. I've had a gold coach tell me to try and emulate mine closer to his when I have that problem.
I sound similar to kevall1. Started "serious" bowling (i.e.: bought a ball, shoes, learned a hook) in April. Finished summer league with a 173 average, but then I broke my right wrist in August (ice hockey) and am just now getting back to my right side after surgery. (I bowled left in the meantime, high game 220! :) But as I get back to "form", this video should be GREAT for helping better my technique which still needed a lot work. THANKS Dean!
Excellent! Confirmed things I know and taught me a few more. If you're going to analyze the 2-handed approach in Part 2, I can't wait to see it! I've been analyzing and using the style for at least a year or two. Looking forward to Part 2 either way.
I've been taking lessons for a month and in that month, my average has gone from 137 to 172. My monthly average for September was 150. My October average was 189. These are the techniques that my coach teaches. It takes considerable work to accomplish these techniques, but they do pay off. I'm a believer and so are those who used to laugh at my bowling. :D
I was actually searching for something to learn how to release the ball from.... now I found it!!! great video! I'll try this I'll be very happy to become a 16 years old with 200 average instead of 150 with my 2 fingers shot....
Thanks i will be giving a try for league. I got a new finger tip ball and am learning to create hook i think this an practice will help. My new high game is 190 and series of 752 with handicap. I cant wait first year on league.
Dean thanks for making this video. I have been looking for this exact lesson! I am an unconventional bowler I guess. I learned to bowl with a 16 pound ball many years ago when i was much lighter and the ball felt much heavier so to get the spin like everyone else i had to hold the ball in the cup of my hand and roll it off the left side but I got pretty good with that. Years later I am getting back into it and I am still good that way but really want to be more graceful. I am even having trouble getting full extension on the back swing in primal fear of dropping the ball as i did in my youth, so embarrassing lol. I am sure i will be watching this video at the lanes tomorrow.
You cant beat a clear and precise video like this.. thank you. (Apart from 1v1 coaching I guess). Lots of useful info for a 'beginner' like me to take to practice.
I think there's a correlation between knee continuation and the swing plane. The knee bend improves your balance at the line, which allows you to tilt your upper body to the side, which makes for a swing that is easier and can be more inside because of the extra clearance.
very good video i think. im going to bring it up when i meet a few of this pros later this month in japan. i feel that most of things i think about and try work on are all touched in video. only a few things are left out. and of those all are something that can only be learned by doing it. very good video and props for taking the time to make it:)
The outward movement is just extending your arm. It's the horizontal movement in the push-away. In the stance, your arm is bent but it is extended in the push-way so that it can do the whole pendulum free armswing thing. With a "hinge" push-away, this extension of the arm looks less pronounced and the arm just drops more, rather than going out in front of the torso really far.

Dean... you the man. Thank you for posting such an educational yet simple vid. I too have seen the Brian Voss and the Slovinski vids. All these are great vids as well. Just to add.... Choi Young is one sick bowler. :)
I was looking at my backswing too and found that its mostly in my push that gives the height to my backswing. If I push off harder with my legs, with the ball farther from my body, it does go higher but It actually has messed up my timing so I've gone back to what feels comfortable.
thank you! thank You! thank you! so much for this awesome video lesson! i been bowl for 3years and i alwayz ask myself on how they spin their bowl like that... and this is the technique now... im going to practice this... tnx a lot!
Good. About knee continuation. I pretty much do not slide at all, so the only way I guess I can continue my knee forward is if my arm ends up way over the foul line.
Please, never take this video down. It is by far the most interesting, most instructional video I've seen on the modern game. Kudos to you for putting it together.
I've been bowling for 17 years-since I was five. This is easily the most informative video I've seen in that time. Great work, Dean. And thanks for posting!

Don't even think of deleting this video its by far the best out there to teach people
The best video on the arm swing and most importantly. the release I have ever seen. It makes me want to get back into the game. Please keep your videos coming. Thanks
Watching this video helped me shoot my first 300.
Congratulations!!!!! Hope you get more 300's, and are you going pro now???
Sleeper video of the modern release broken down.

The definitive summary of the very best techniques to work on. Still trying to work on the left leg and knee forward, it's not as easy as it looks.
Thank you much for the composition of this video. I can only imagine how much work and time it took in editing. This video will help me much in the improvement of my ball release.
Best analysis I've seen. thanks for your video library. I've been getting a lot out of them.

hey thanks for this dean, I'm trying to switch from a very traditional release to this more powerful one, and this footage was very useful.
I've been trying to learn this "Yo-Yo" release as well.. Not easy, but sure looks better than the old way. I just need more practice.
I've applied some of these teqniques into my game and my consistency has improved tremendously. My Rev rate has definitely gone up, which is something I've wanted to have happen for a long time. like dude, your video seriously helped me a lot. Took a couple weeks because everything felt weird at first, but now I'm comfortable with it all
Watched this video saturday, made a few adjustments and tonight in league I shot my first sanctioned 700 series. Thanks for the great video.
I've watched this at least ten times, I've nearly perfected my swing within a month
Practice makes better, not perfect, there is no such thing as perfect.
One of the most informative bowling videos I’ve ever seen

Fantastic video. Great analysis, the slo-mo will help a lot of bowlers understand what the best are doing compared to the average chucker.
Excellent Dean. Thank you to you and the others who helped, for your efforts in putting this together. Very informative and I enjoyed it very much.
Finally the video I was looking for. Great analysis! Thanks for all the hard work.
This is fucking awesome and one of if not the best informational bowling vid ive seen on youtube. The slow motion of all the pros is great. Its just fun to watch releases in slow motion

very well done video...its shows exactly how to come out of the ball...opens your brain to visualize a good shot..musta watched this 20 times so far
Watching this and incorporating into my game could make the most improved bowler on my team! I'm going to give it my best shot.
One of the best videos on youtube! Thumbs up and continue your good work. you have many fans now!!!
The analysis is accurate and Ive improved my game by alot !!! Thanks a bunch

dean you have the best bowling videos on youtube, and i've viewed over 10,000 of them related to bowling.
I just started bowling. I don't have a good ball yet, but this video showed me so much that I didn't know. Holy poop.
How can they say that bowling isn't a sport? Bravo to the creator/s of this video and thanks for posting!
Wow. This was much more elaborate than i expected. Great tips man. Im sure they will help me with my approach
Excellent analysis Dean thanks for sharing.
Excellent video! I've been working on getting more revs on my ball to help me open the lanes up a lil when they start to break down.
The thumb down thingy is awesome it made my scores alot higher and i hooked the ball more! :D thanks!
Thank you. This helped me understand the throw so much. Priceless. Thank you again.
Awesome video. I wouldn't have included Stu Williams in the follow-through portion, though. He doesn't even follow through, really.
came 9 years later to laugh because that follow through makes it pretty much impossible to hit up on it, which far too many people do. I've had a gold coach tell me to try and emulate mine closer to his when I have that problem.
This is so good! I find myself not cupping anymore, and more so taking a page out of Fagan's book and I've become more accurate.
Wonderful slow-motion video. Thank you!
Outstanding production - thank you!
I sound similar to kevall1. Started "serious" bowling (i.e.: bought a ball, shoes, learned a hook) in April. Finished summer league with a 173 average, but then I broke my right wrist in August (ice hockey) and am just now getting back to my right side after surgery.
awesome analysis with great detail and illustration!
your the best Dean Champ without this i would not have a great game
I was actually searching for something to learn how to release the ball from.... now I found it!!! great video! I'll try this I'll be very happy to become a 16 years old with 200 average instead of 150 with my 2 fingers shot....

Bowled my first 300 game last night. Wouldn't have happened without this video. :)
well, I'm not a regular bowler at all but having an interest in physics and crap bowling technique I really enjoyed and appreciate this video; thanks!
Dude this is amazing! I have seriously been looking for all this information in a video for years!!
I think there's a correlation between knee continuation and the swing plane. The knee bend improves your balance at the line, which allows you to tilt your upper body to the side, which makes for a swing that is easier and can be more inside because of the extra clearance.
man, that beautiful release and follow thru at 1:56..
very good video i think. im going to bring it up when i meet a few of this pros later this month in japan. i feel that most of things i think about and try work on are all touched in video. only a few things are left out. and of those all are something that can only be learned by doing it. very good video and props for taking the time to make it:)
Thank you for this Video. It is exactly what I was looking for. Music too.
The outward movement is just extending your arm. It's the horizontal movement in the push-away. In the stance, your arm is bent but it is extended in the push-way so that it can do the whole pendulum free armswing thing. With a "hinge" push-away, this extension of the arm looks less pronounced and the arm just drops more, rather than going out in front of the torso really far.
love this video
thank you
some things i knew but the things i didnt, i probably would have never knew or been able to observe for myself had it not been for this very educational video i am a 210 average bowler and now i see how i can improve and be even better.
Well done!
Beautiful video, amazingly helpful analysis and great pros...... Best bowling video I've seen yet
Outstanding analyses, something to watch over and over. Even if we can't duplicate, at least we can get similar? What I mean is, remember, how you tried something in the past and could never seem to get it, yet if you kept at it - even if you gave up trying to do it, "suddenly" you were doing it? (Or at least something verisimilar to it?) But, be cautious, last season I had to stop bowling for a couple weeks when I injured myself trying a new style of release. It takes physical conditioning.
Excellent work and analysis....
Visually understandable
Thanks for the analysis videos. Really educating and fun to watch as i just got into bowling myself.
Outstanding job. The video "says" it all.
the music made me feel like I was watching a conspiracy video
These lanes and bowlers are rigged with motion sensors, pressure pads and LASERs to monitor the biomechanics and physics of what's going on. The data's analysed at the Pentagon so Obama and co can better understand how to bomb foreign aid workers and selfless, charitable doctors with greater precision ;)
That's exactly what I thought!
...yea, what's up with all the videos needing techno pop music? It seems everyone have to do it. I don't get it.
You are, Sonny. Bowling IS a conspiracy. Beware
Amazing video! Everything looks great and it didn't even seem like a 10 minute video, I wish there were more.
Dean... you the man.
Really beautifully done vid. Outstanding on so many levels. Keep it up.
what an amazing compilation and analysis. Bravo!
Thank you so much for sharing!!! it is really helpful
Never noticed the left thumb thing before. wow! Great video!
Really well made vid.
Even as a bowling beginner cud easily understand and learn a thing or two, actually cud learn a lot, from this vid
This did help. My Ave. was 150 and now its 192
Awesome video analysis. Thanks for creating!
