I just saw the recent Walter Ray match on String Pins. A rolling pin was prevented from knocking over the 10 pin because of the string & it was commented on. Because of that i'm not a fan of them. But for leagues to house bowling it may be ok. Just my opinion.
Why? Just why? (that was before I watched the video and talking about string pins). After watching it, I'll still ask why string pins? But the challenge was fun to watch. Good video.
Why string pins? Two reasons: 1) pin setter cost / complexity; and 2) it's very hard for some bowling alleys to find a good mechanic who's willing to work for cheap.
i’m very scared for the future of bowling if string becomes the norm. USBC has already allowed them and they’re cheaper so more alleys will adopt them.
My house just switched over the weekend. Thursday will be the debut of the strings. At least they are the USBC certified ones. We will see how it goes.
One of my houses made the switch. It was bad bc they were not able to hire a mechanic for the longest time and the pinsetters were terrible (nail in the coffin- last league night before the install, I had 5 racks with missing pins in a row followed by raining pins). Strings are less forgiving and people are complaining because they don't want to think they suck as bowlers, and honestly forces better shotmaking. You can't go light, and you can't jam the ball into the pocket without letting it roll otherwise there's deflection. I get punished for getting to the pocket and not letting the ball roll (seeing too much oil/hooking too late) with a lot of pocket 5 pins at best, 4-5-7s, and worst case scenarios the 5-7. Also helps me internalize that most messengers are actually off bad shots too.
@@ripvanrevs I've seen more 5-7s and 4-5-7s with the string pins but it only happens on light hits. After shooting at these for a while, they both are about a 50-50 shot for me. The 5-7 hasn't been a big issue for me because I used to leave a lot of them and because of that had a lot of practice at picking them up. I've had very little practice at picking up the 5-10, so that's a much harder split for me to cover.
House I bowl at is installing string pins USBC certified. Can’t find qualified people to work on the pin setter’s on a full time basis. The interesting part is the machine has two settings certified and carnival. So what happens if someone bowls 300 or even 900. If the wrong setting is on does it count and who’s going to say anything
I honestly didn’t notice after a while…it’s kinda like Once you see it, you’re adapting Your throw just to keep the score outta reach if you want the win
I played bowling back when prople would set pins. Then, lower end alleys put in the carnival string machines while the larger ones in my area but in beautiful brunswick machines. Strings greatly affected game play. The alleys who had strings went out of business over the ones who didn't. This is the last gasp of the bowling industry.
@@jonmayer That's like, your opinion man. USBC Strings have a statistically barely noticeable difference in scores from amateurs, pros, conditions, and robots. The current USBC study has proven that before certifying a specific set of strings. When did you try them out yourself?
@@kenkonarzewski9961 And who conducted this "study"? You DO know that the USBC is, effectively, owned by the BPAA, as in the bowling PROPRIETORS-aka OWNERS? And yes, when you change a FUNDAMENTAL part of the game/sport, it is no longer the same-PERIOD...wake up and smell what you're shoveling.
@@kenkonarzewski9961 I actually do have a bad experience with that kind of string pin technology in duckpin bowling. I rolled a strike one time, and the strings were having a hard time keeping the pins up upon resetting them, since a few of them keep falling down when they land on the lane. I'm not taking any chances in playing 10 pin bowling that has that string pin setup, because it might run into the same problem that the duckpin lane had. Plus, the unnatural pin action when you knock down the pins, and the fact that the strings could get tangled up if you add too much strength to your roll. That's why I considered String pin setups to be an abomination to bowling, because I've seen the problems with it first hand, and I'm not gonna take any chances in bowling in center that relies on string pins as a lazy way to cut costs.
string pins are fine for kids and people who play maybe a couple of times a year. period. you can watch slow-motion videos and see how many pins are pulled over by the strings of other falling pins.
Loved the crinkly water bottle routine with Belmo and Rash. Not a fan of string pins, although that's where the leisure sport is going...hopefully not the pros. Free The Pins!!!
Great vid. If I were to give the fella a tip, i'd recommend not crossing his arm on his follow through. Hes trying to overcrank it and is killing the drive b4 it reaches the pins.
Testing determined that to be a lie... Testing shows you get fewer strikes but MAY get some random splits every once in a while. Scoring is lower on certified strings.
String pins: better than you think, worse than you want. USBC certified string pins aren't any worse than some of the bad racks that pop up on freefall machines
I enjoy string pins, not only have they done tons of research to figure out that it’s basically the same as regular pins with preformance but also they help the bowling alleys with maintenance and prices of operation! I think it’s all around a win

@@BeaubienMM2 yes they would care because i am one of the people keeping bowling going in this country
@@BeaubienMM2 bowling centers would, unless you own one, it really doesn't matter what you think.
@@robvoyles I do not own a center. As a bowler myself, string pins are the least of my worries, and even if it was a turnoff, I wouldn't feel the need to announce it to a RUclips comment section like all the other dramatic incels above
I love the usage of the FFVII victory tone. I thought my phone was going off for a second there, LOL
The house pro even yelled "string it!" What's happening to the game is effin' ridiculous.
"Is there such a thing as slim when the first number is bigger than the second" Darren just casually throwing shade at 95% of adult men
Nothing wrong with those string pins! Pure skill!
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA “ the belmonte bottle crinkler “
It’s so quiet without the pinsetters….. very weird.
So true. Would rather hear the pinsetter sounds.
The FF7 victory theme, such a good little touch!
A long time mantra of mine: Make your spares; the strikes will come.
Steve is always hilarious, did he have his wheel burrow of balls like usual? LOL
I just saw the recent Walter Ray match on String Pins. A rolling pin was prevented from knocking over the 10 pin because of the string & it was commented on. Because of that i'm not a fan of them. But for leagues to house bowling it may be ok. Just my opinion.
not my league.
I give up. How does the tape help?
when you said the coach didnt like you were talking about the other utah bowling team?
Hey Darren What weight ball do you use ?
This was a fun night. Except for the fact that I lost the bowl off to win a free ball by one pin.
I absolutely could not tell that those were string bowling pins. This is a fun video to watch!
Great video. But will there be an unboxing video of the pokemon cards?
Why?
@@edb3877 Those are good reasons. Thanks for sharing.
Super video … Loved the Petey Weber and Sean Rash references!
That was a lot of fun to watch thanks
i’m very scared for the future of bowling if string becomes the norm. USBC has already allowed them and they’re cheaper so more alleys will adopt them.
My house just switched over the weekend. Thursday will be the debut of the strings. At least they are the USBC certified ones. We will see how it goes.
@@wingracer1614let us know. I see alot of people hating on them but some say they really aren’t that bad.
@@aznmusicman4999 We left those all the time in the 1970s
@@ripvanrevs I've seen more 5-7s and 4-5-7s with the string pins but it only happens on light hits. After shooting at these for a while, they both are about a 50-50 shot for me.
The 5-7 hasn't been a big issue for me because I used to leave a lot of them and because of that had a lot of practice at picking them up. I've had very little practice at picking
up the 5-10, so that's a much harder split for me to cover.
He should have said that Darren had to wear polka dot pants the next time on TV
People don’t know about the belmo bottle vs Sean rash 🤣
You the goat🔥🔥🔥!
No string pins!!!
What the date of this Christmas tree in the back round *(((
Exciting! i just moved here to cedar, and im doing the PBA league steven is hosting, its been really tough but fun! cool to see you at our center!
I love how the strings tried to get you in the first shot 😅
I honestly didn’t notice after a while…it’s kinda like Once you see it, you’re adapting Your throw just to keep the score outta reach if you want the win
There's is such a weird consistency on people who despise the idea of string pins so much, and what channels they comment/follow. It's crazy.
I hope strong pins are not the future the only thing string pins you should be useful as for 3-year-olds to go bowling on
String pins are one more reason why we can't have nice things.
A 29 😂😂 one day you'll grow into a real boy!
string pins are fucking actual cancer
I played bowling back when prople would set pins. Then, lower end alleys put in the carnival string machines while the larger ones in my area but in beautiful brunswick machines. Strings greatly affected game play. The alleys who had strings went out of business over the ones who didn't. This is the last gasp of the bowling industry.
Great video, can’t believe that you have a 30 waist!
We all know you were going to win dtang! Should've put the pants on for the people though!
Take that you bottle.. I’m fucking dying 😂😂
Alot leagues has dropped out not happy with strings blame on USBC ❤
If there was an older lanes with the older string pins I understand but the new USBC Certified ones will be the standard within a decade.
@@kenkonarzewski9961 then bowling will be worse off in a decade.
Did you think the USBC headquarters moved from Green Bay to Arlington, TX just for the hell of it? You know what organization has had its HQ in Arlington for years, right? FIGURE IT OUT.
This is the proverbial fox guarding the hen house...the USBC is a separate entity in name only-the BPAA calls the shots.
Filmed this a while back I see lol
If all centers move to string pins, I will build my own pair of lanes and free fall pins.
I have been bowling for 35 years and have no issue with them switching to good string pins.
I'll quit bowling before I ever bowl with string pins.
Once this happens, I'm done bowling
That Asian dad stare did it in the tenth.
Great vid. If I were to give the fella a tip, i'd recommend not crossing his arm on his follow through. Hes trying to overcrank it and is killing the drive b4 it reaches the pins.
“alright imagine bowling but with more random pin action and artificially inflated scores"
Probs why pros like it lol easier game
Testing determined that to be a lie...
Testing shows you get fewer strikes but MAY get some random splits every once in a while. Scoring is lower on certified strings.
Bowling? Where are the pack rips?
String pins: better than you think, worse than you want. USBC certified string pins aren't any worse than some of the bad racks that pop up on freefall machines
Literally doesnt even look like the pins are on strings. Am i watching the right video?
Hold on is it just me or one of the lane is string-pins, while the other lane is free fall pins? or is all just string-pins?
A shame we dont get a box opening
I enjoy string pins, not only have they done tons of research to figure out that it’s basically the same as regular pins with preformance but also they help the bowling alleys with maintenance and prices of operation! I think it’s all around a win
literally the second shot in the video shows how string pins are whack
"done tons of research to figure out that it’s basically the same" .. 'basically the same' or, in other words, not the same.
String pin bowling should be outlawed.
String pins will save bowling
@@darylgould8923 The only thing being "saved" is RECREATIONAL bowling. 5 year old kids at a birthday party won't give a shit. Nor will drunken teenagers bowling with strobe lights and horrific "music". Competitive bowling however, is about to be sacrificed on the altar of corporate greed. Competing on these things will be a joke, and many will simply give it up if/ when this becomes their only option.
@notonyourlife7939 maths not your strong point mate? Centres cannot afford the upkeep of machines and paying mechanics. Fuck me, work it out.
@@darylgould8923 I undesrtand the math just fine. I've worked in bowling centers on/off for years. It's not my fault that you lack reading comprehension. I'll say it again: String pins will keep recreational, non-competitive bowling in existence. That however, is the only thing being "saved". Centers want open play and birthday parties because that's where the money is. Leagues and tournaments don't keep the lights on anymore. The serious competitors who are still around though, those who actually view bowling as a sport and not just the occasional leisure activity 3 times a year, will run from string pins like the plague because they are a pale imitation of free-fall machines. Those who can't tell the difference won't care... but there will be plenty who do. If you're not among them, then salúd. Enjoy your strings, and bowling in the dark with lasers and little dancing pancakes projected onto the lane... because before too long, that's all that'll be left.
Can't practice if they won't turn the lights on, and there are Bowleros all over the place that do exactly that all day long. THAT is what will drive competitive bowlers away, and take the SPORT of bowling with it. But thank the Good Lord we'll have "saved" an activity to occupy little kids on a rainy Saturday, and 20-somethings on date night... and to hell with the rest of us. Peace.

Fun Fun Fun 😅 😂 😂
I guess gone are the days where looking towards the future meant hoping for improvement or breakthroughs
String pins belong at the carnival, where they probably came from
It’s so bizarre to me that such a large portion of a sports die hard, (who’ve kept the bowling alleys open with all their business) just get pushed aside and mocked by a select few.
I imagine all the people that are talking about the string bowling probably had family members that said they were gonna quit once they quit haven't pinsetters that actually used people..
If they do this to all bowling alley's i will never bowl again
I only bowl a few times a year but if I walked into the alley and saw string pins I'm leaving.
A whole crowd of 11 people
We had three houses in this nice little city in Florida. We now have one house and they change to completely synthetic word feels like the approach is glass with oil on it. To add insult to injury they want to string pins also. Absolutely sucks. If you're a guy like me that posts and tends to spray the pins you are dead in the water 💦. Literal average drop 20 pins.
It should be a requirement that you have to wear pants like that to bowl on string pins. That way the bowling matches the pants. String pins = arcade bowling. Install coin op machines where you pay at the lane with quarters.
This video gave me hope to bowl on strings no goofy carry… also you 2 are super accurate so if it helps with accuracy bring it on! Sad no messengers on the 10 that seems to be consistent
You and I didn't watch the same video, then. Go back and watch Darren's first frame... pin slid laterally on the deck and likely would have stayed up if the string didn't drag it down. These things are a joke.
@@notonyourlife7939 that was one frame…you never saw a weird strike on free fall? I see about 10-20 every night in league
If all bowling alleys go to string pins I will srip bowling.
I would try string pins, but i would personally go set the pins up myself by hand for each game, than play string pins regularly
Get Paalarma to throw a 35 mph fast ball on those strings, easy 300 😊
