My husband was a favorite high school teacher to many kids and this is one of the reasons. Each hour as kids started coming in for class, he would put Glen Campbell's recording of "Today is Mine" on - an attitude lesson of sorts. What a wonderful song and reminder that we must value each moment and day. He died of a cardiac arrest at age 52 having taught for 27+ years.
This has always been my favorite song by Glen Campbell. What a wonderful message he delivers in this song. Glen Campbell has given us all beautiful music with his talented gift. I have special memories as a teenager what his television show, GLEN CAMPBELL - Good Time Hour with my family. Many thanks for sharing your talent with us. I know he is with the Lord, but his voice is still down here on earth entertaining us all...
This has been my favorite song since it was released in 1971. But the song is a secret. Never a hit, never any airplay, rarely heard. With mantra-like lyrics by Jerry Reed, this is Glen's greatest musical moment.
Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a promise, today is mine and the only way I can live, Just like this beautiful song.... For now he has alziemers - so sad, but such a wonderful voice and songs...
"To die a little that I might learn to live; to take from life that I might learn to give" What powerful words.....God Bless You and Keep You, Glen Campbell as you face the last journey on your road to "Home".......You are always on my mind....
One of the most tranquil and positive songs ever written. This was probably Jerry Reed's finest hour as a songwriter and Glen does a nice job too. This is one song everybody should hear at least once before they die.
One of the most beautiful and important songs ever written(by Jerry Reed). My thoughts go to out to people(and there are so many) who have really lost their hope and love of life, its so easy to go down that lonely path.. maybe listening to this could be a start to getting back on the right path to enlightenment and putting joy back in ones life..
What a great song, Glen is the best. This song makes me appreciate that beautiful central Texas landscape, especially from flight level 350 as our Boeing 737-700 is heading westbound to Las Vegas.
People have commented that glen is alone where he is Glen knows Jesus and with Jesus we are never alone, for his promis is he will never leave us or forsake us.
Glen Campbell was one of the best singer/ musicians ever and certainly one of my favourite singers, however although this song wasn't a hit, it remains my favorite Glen Campbell song.
Hearing of Glen Campbell's declining health, this song came to mind. Have not heard it in years, but it has so much meaning to live by. Written by Jerry Reed (the truck drive in Smokey and the Bandit), I find Glen's version so much more smoother. When the sun came up this morning I took the time to watch it rise And as its beauty struck the darkness from the sky I thought how small and unimportant all my troubles seem to be And how lucky another day belongs to me And as the sleepy world around me woke up to greet the day All its silent beauties seemed to say So what my friend if all your dreams you have and realized Just look around you you got a whole new day to try Today is mine today is mine to do with what I will Today is mine my own special cup to fill To die a little that I might learn to live to take from life that I might learn to give Today is mine Like most men I cursed the present to avoid the peace of mind And raise my thoughts beyond tomorrow and vision there more peace of mind But as I view this day around me I can see the fool I've been For today's the only garden we can tend Today is mine...
I love Glen's version too. Thanks for posting the lyrics. The first two lines in the last stanza are often misquoted, and certainly are in almost every Google search that cites them. But Jerry Reed has said that these are the lines he wrote: "Like all men I curse the present, that seems void of peace of mind, And race my thoughts beyond tomorrow, and vision there more peace of mind. " Glen sings the last phrase as 'and vision there a sweeter time". I like that even better. Rest in peace, Glen. And thank you for your incredible voice, your beautiful heart, and your music.
It's incredible what a small circle Nashville was back then. Jerry Reed played guitar for Waylon in the late 60's/early 70's. I'd love to hear Waylon's version. Do you know if it's available on anything? Jerry's version was played by tv fisherman Bill Dance on his tv show for years.
Its too bad that World Leaders and the military won't be listening to this beautiful song when they get out of bed each morning. Probably would do more to promote world peace than anything else one can think of.

A masterpiece penned by Jerry Reed & rightly sung by Glen. This song will carve a niche in music history, & for both artists, deservedly so.

Beautiful song! Oh, for the good old days! Glen Campbell's wonderful voice does this one justice!

I wake up to this every morning
Fantastic Jerry Reed written song. No one could sing it better than Glen!
I love this song. The words tell a story. The music warms the heart. And Glen sang It just the way it was meant to be sung.
Glen Campbell was one of the best singer/ musicians ever and certainly one of my favourite singers, however although this song wasn't a hit, it remains my favorite Glen Campbell song.
I love this beautiful song -- Glen plays and sings it superbly! Thx for posting it!!
Absolutely brilliant

When the sun came up this morning I took the time to watch it rise
And as its beauty struck the darkness from the sky
I thought how small and unimportant all my troubles seem to be
And how lucky another day belongs to me
And as the sleepy world around me woke up to greet the day
All its silent beauties seemed to say
So what my friend if all your dreams you have and realized
Just look around you you got a whole new day to try
Today is mine today is mine to do with what I will
Today is mine my own special cup to fill
To die a little that I might learn to live to take from life that I might learn to give
Today is mine
Like most men I cursed the present to avoid the peace of mind
And raise my thoughts beyond tomorrow and vision there more peace of mind
But as I view this day around me I can see the fool I've been
For today's the only garden we can tend
Today is mine...

We lost one of the best entertainers R I P❤️😰
Jerry Reed might’ve written and recorded it first, but man… Glen Campbell sure knows how to give this song an emotional feel to it.
Love this song!!!
