Growing up I remember a guy down the street who used a tree to hoist the motor out of his car. I use what I got and I'm grateful God gave me the ability to see the old ways my parents and grandparents did things back before we started throwing everything away. I really like how you show people how to work on modern things with yesteryear's ingenuity. :)
i wana take my time to thank you and i hope u take ur time to read this. i was high when i first saw one of your videos. it was like if god wanted me to find a better way because i was wasting my time. i would skip school smoke weed and be out in the streets. i love hearing gun shots i love the adrenaline but i have a thing for cars that i cant explain. its a much bigger adrenaline than getting shot at or running from cops. im lucky i havent gone to jail. and i wana thank you because now im in school working and taking care of my father. im only 16 and im glad that your video came up in my youtube. even though i used to always think god wasnt real because i used to live in a fucked up environment. i started looking for opportunities instead of making excuses. now i believe in god even though times are rough now i look up to him and say its for a reason. thanks man real talk i dont where i would be right now if it werent for you
Felix Vizuet Thank you. Hey brother I hear you, My story is very simular to yours. I used to run the streets and did drugs and I loved violence and thrived in that environment. It was all a lie and I was a fool being used by the devil to hurt other people. If it was not for God stepping in and keeping me from getting killed I would have been dead a long time ago. Today I am a new man because of God's grace and his mercy. Remember this, in Your environment and in everything you do, YOU be the positive influence God created you to be don't let any negativity be your influence in life. Keep your head strong and sound brother and most of all keep Jesus Christ first and he will guide your steps and give you council in all you do. God bless you and your dad and keep on smashin out there Felix!

Brother I was steeped in the Word as you were preaching it to us in RUclips. I turned to the channel for advice on a blown head gasket but ended my RUclips research today with fruit of the Word! As the good Lord says, we shall reap what we sow...Amen in the name of Jesus Christ.
I have been watching your videos for awhile now, and you motivated/inspired me to do a complete engine overhaul myself, with minor help from a machine shop. I said all that to say this,"If man can, I can!" That phrase alone made my train of thought deeper into the world around me, thank you and GOD BLESS
I am a student at cypress college and I am about to complete their automotive program. I really enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot from you, I like your innovative thinking. I have been a Christian for over 40 years. Keep preaching it Brother!!
After watching this video I said this will be the first thing on RUclips I've ever subscribed to, then you mentioned out Lord and Savior and just took it to an the very highest level...thank you for the knowledge, the lesson and most of all glorifying God!!!
Thanks for all of your videos. I enjoy them. I love learning things and saving time and money. Have been working on my own cars, trucks and tractors for fifty years. I am 66 years old and still learning. Your positive attitude is great. James
your method with suspending the timing belt save me so much time!! you are a huge blessing my brother. Keep bringing the word of God! oldskool funk for the win!! may God richly bless you!!!
yo yo preach we going to church every time we look at ur vids keep on doing what u do because of bros like u ,u teaching a man to be a man and how to fish Instead of asking for a fish every day we need more guys like u showing the way!!!!!!!
what I enjoy the most in this video is your attitude! full of positive energy and encouragement! this is what most important in our life, as a human being. Keep up the good work and God bless you!
Your awesome brother. I'm mechanic for 25+ years. Always something new to learn. How you can stay Sharp keeping your mind working for the good. I be proud help you work on them 1.5 1.6 jdm engines. God bless you man proud of you.
hey oldskool, ive been building Hondas with my brother for pretty much as long as i could be of help to him, and over the years ive picked up all kinds of different skills that remind me a lot of your methods. it's that old school diy stuff that you have to do when you don't have every single specialty tool or the money, you get it, but im not trying to talk about the cars here. i was never religious and could never accept such beliefs, they just didn't click with me, and i could never stand to hear others spread the word that you spread, but at this point, 21 years old, i feel differently. there are many good people like you who genuinely just want to help others, and your beliefs are just as much your gifts to others as much as all of your skill and knowledge is. you're giving everyone some real valuable and very often life changing knowledge in what you do with the cars as well as your way of life. you're a fantastic person, wish there were more like you oldskool, and ive come to appreciate the kindness and love good people like you spread. thanks oldskool, keep it up!
Thank you so much for your informative videos, and especially for your ministry. Our country is in sad shape with all the hate and violence. A few years ago, my home was burglarized and then torched to cover their tracks, and I have had such a hard time with forgiveness since the burglars were never caught. Your ministry helps so much! Thank you brother!
Danny Bain Thank you Danny, even though they were never caught by man, now you leave it in the hands of God. God will deal with them according to their lifestyle your job is to let it go and let Jesus handle your burdens. Bitterness and unforgiving will eat tear you up inside brother, I know I lived with hate, anger and conflict most of my years and it tore me up. I thank the Lord for freeing me from that bondage and now I can speak on the dangers of many wreckless and dangerous things that can damage a life. God bless brother and contend for the faith.
P.Dub from Fresno on my lady Sonya tablet. ..first and foremost allow me to say that you are a GOD send...thank you brother in Christ for sharing your knowledge and the gift of the word of GOD.....I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0L with a small head gasket situation...this info will aid me greatly...I bid you peace of the spirit....bless you oldskool funk....stay creative you lifted my spirit....I see you...
I grew up in the church, I went 3 times a week for the first 16 years of my life. I'm a little older now and I never go to church and I'm agnostic. I respect your faith and respect your work. Pretty cool tricks that you have and it's cool how your sharing them with the rest of the world. You know as well as I that these tricks have been around a long time they just aren't really shared much outside of the industry to the public. Keep up the good work I love positive people like you. I'm also a very positive person, I feed off others negativity sometimes. When someone tells you that you can't do something, that's the best reason just to try even harder. You work in a nice area, I wonder where that is.
You just saved me about 4 hours, and I really enjoyed the inspirational message. I need that encouragement not to start slipping and sliding into sin. I am going to do a dohc 93 Prizm with only one cam sprocket tomorrow, the other cam is run of a gear interlocked with the intake cam inside the valve cover. Thanks and many blessings be upon you my brother.
You could make a entire channel based on your knowledge of life and not even need to teach mechanics. I would love 30 minutes face to face or on the phone with you to pick your brain. Your message is phenomenal. "Faith in humanity restored."
I just replaced a gasket from watching this video….Thanks! Everything worked out great. I used a long axe handle and a 6” bungee cord in place of the wire. The bungee applied continuous tension. I wrapped all of it around the stick, and the LAST wrap went thru the pulley and snag that hook to the first hook. Then I lifted the stick until it was bungee-tight (stretchy), and placed a brick between the end of the stick and the car. The bungee tension held everything in place. It wasn’t really tight, just enough to keep everything in check. You make me wanna go find another car and do this again!!!
Ton Dee Thats what im talking about! Congrtas Ton, What I like about what you just said is you used another method (The Bungee) That is exactly what I was hoping people would get from this video (BE CREATIVE) and make your own ideas work. None of what I show you is etched in stone YOU can bend the rules on all this stuff and still make it work. If you notice I always stray away from the norm and never listen lol. Thats because I challenge every thing and dont care lol. Great Job my man keep the creative juices flowing because we all have it from God, most just supress it Keep on smashin out there.
Your videos are like a good movie...after i get done with the movie or your video and you been preaching and teaching, I feel a lot better...I learned something and feel good about learning more...After going to automotive school for two years, they don't teach the practical side like you do...You should be an instructor at college...I can tackle this job now....thank you..
I could definitely use your help. I have a blown head gasket and for the past seven years after losing my woman, and family and career and everything I worked to build in life, I'm so lost that I don't know if I believe anymore. I still talk to him everyday but it just seems like I'm going deeper in a hole and I can't see the top anymore. Glad u found peace and happiness brother!
Keep spreading the word OG from someone who came from the bottom and your videos are very helpful and wanna make me keep Pursuing my goals at becoming all I can be in the auto mechanic world and life it self very inspirational videos and I always believe in God and his higher power . Your channels is one of the best out there and is has help me out a lot thank you.
You're the best Bro, looking out for those that need work done on a budget. I just started a similar job on my 03 Mitsubishi Montero 3.8 ltr. At first I felt intimidated by the size and complexity of the job but after watching your video I decided to do it. Your inspiration is what gave me the confidence to take on the job. Hopefully I'll have success because I have your videos to guide me. Thanks for the great videos and encouragement, God Bless !
I just stumbled across your videos today. And, I am getting such an inspiration out of them. I wish I would have found you 2 years ago. Thank you so much for what you are doing. Keep making videos and keep preaching the Gospel. I love you man. I can't wait until the Glorious Appearing to finally meet you.
Gid day fm newzealand my bro.ur info is so helpful 2us non mechanal ppl i no a little but u hav showed us so much2sav time bro thank u!&the god stuf i dnt look 4 but enjoy wot u r trying2do 4 ever1 wishing u long .happy life&love 4 evea my bro .karl da kiwi
Ran across your videos a few months ago and finally watched a few today. What a common sense approach. So simple and absolutely takes a lot of fear out of doing a job like this. I love something that makes my mind think of the simplicity of doing things differently. I had never even considered a job like this without having o remove a timing belt. Suspend a cam belt. What an easy solution staring us right in the face.
This dosent make me uncomfortable, it make me Comfortable. My kind of getting it done. I agree be a leader, you teach like a great person. thanks for the wisdom. God Bless
Thank you so much, you are the greatest! I just had my head gasket replaced and i assisted the mechanic, he didn't take all the proper procedures as you did and now my car smokes. All of my pistons read 120 psi from the compression tester, he says its "perfect Reading", i heard that is the lowest, Hopefully i didn't lose my job because i haven't been able to drive for 3 days, (they are really upset with me). This mechanic friend of my dads is rushing my car and has been doing double work, i guess because he has plans. Oh well everything happens for a reason right? its not a coincidence that i decided to watch this and u spoke of god and Jesus Christ.
You are a smart "shade tree" mechanic! no disrespect, most shops would just go by the book without using any customer's/money saving in mind. My old mechanic in Port Huron used many of the same tricks to save me as much money as he could over the years. He is 70 years old now and had to quit do to health problems. God Bless
Thank you for everything. Your excellence on what you love to do and share with us is invaluable, your massage of God and life experiences are priceless. Especially from someone that walked that line. Gracias Buen Hombre.
man i appreciate you im just starting my journey as a technician.Thank you brother for the tips and tricks of the trade. Yah Bless and Yeshua the anointed be with you. Thank you for talking about the love of Jesus Christ.
yo my brother in Christ i love what your doing for people especially for the young ones..cars saved me from the streets although i had my fair share of trouble being stupid..but cars were my love and wanting and getting one meant i had to work for it..i have alot of experience in building cars i am a custom auto painter...but back to you..bless you and what you are doing..i have even learned a few things from your vids..God Bless
My man, honestly bro I just came here for some car advise but left with so much more, a lot of heart, soul, truth and honesty. Great perspective Brother u have a new loyal subscriber 🙂 Thanks man
you're like the big brother teaching his younger brother how to DIY. you're old school way of thinking is invaluable. I would pay for a oldskool funk workshop course if you had one.
THIS IS WHY I BOUGHT MY DAUGHTER A HONDA!! HAHAHA Worth every penny Funk, thanks I gotta tackle this now...You helped me personally with the timing belt also by following your rules & suggesetions about a year ago.. , lol man you know your HONDA's :-) I also admire & commend you on your faith...Faith is POWERFUL. Real Talk!!!!!!
Ray Ski Thanks for your support Ray, Remember this, Dont ever approach anything with fear in your heart. Step up, be prepared and GET AFTER IT! God Bless.
i have a 1994 honda prelude and i had to replace the valves in it because i knew nothing of timing belts and it snapped at 130,000 miles. now i know better and after pulling the head off that vehicle i said never again will i do this project because i was 18 and had no idea what i was doing. i would rather pay someone. i still have that car but 2 civics later im faced with a leaky head gasket and lagging acceleration when i first start it. granted its a singe overhead cam with more room to work than my DOHC prelude lol i still didnt want anything to do with it. but now almost 23 and after watching your tips, tricks and dissassembly videos im actually excited to tackle this project. i have already ordered the gasket kit. i just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to try again. your videos are extremely helpful. thank you!
Rick Humblet Thank You Rick. Not only will you save money its more than that, its about the fact that you can take on the challenge and DO IT YOURSELF WITH PRIDE. BE FEAR LESS and ATTACK IT God Bless.
As a professional master technician, I can appreciate your ingenuity and willingness to do things a bit different! It's all just nuts and bolts after all, nothing to fear :) thanks man
Great educational video on both and yes this lifetime is nothing compared to eternity! Some people don't think about it and where they will spent it. God bless you brother!
No hate here, oldskool funk. Sharing your knowledge, gained through experience, has helped me with my mechanical problem(s). Sharing your experience, through personal witness and testimony, has given me inspiration that there are still good people out there willing to risk controversy and personal attacks, in order to make this World a better place. I think we need a million more like you!
these are great videos for me because im kinda scared to do major things to cars before i head to college to be an automotive techincian but these videos make it so much simpler than diagrams and pictures. good motivation for an aspiring auotomotive technician
Now i know why God has more respect for the fair honest mechanic that barely makes it then rich mechanics who make big money ripping everybody off.The eye in the needle make sence to me now.I feel love for this mans God.
I am a student at ECC here in san diego and this is what i really need to know because i know people want quick fast efficient technicians and these tips and tricks really help out thanks for the video
Damn! brother ur an angel and ur a definite believer of ; "Each ONE TEACH ONE". Knowledge of any form should be shared and never sold.. The game is to be told not sold.. Some think opposite but not a real humane child of christ. As an electrician I also try and help a fellow brother or sister most of the time I do work for free only because I give them an option to get involved and help, pretty much they pay me to pay them as my apprentice of theyre own home personal electrical project.
Old skool 1st. Thank you for your inspirational talk on Jesus Christ. Yes, I came here for my car and so happy to see your more everlasting message. Thank you! And will investigate if your method doable on my 1997 Accord 2.2 (non-vtec) manual trans. The 1997 Honda Accord 4 door has timing belt covers Are Not removable without extra 8 hours of fiddling around moving the engine mount, PS pump, alternator, and A.C. compressor. May God richly bless you and yours. Thanks again.
Hi oldskool funk I love all the great jobs, tips and teaching you doing. may Joshua Ben Joseph be with you and your cup of knowledge never runs out. Amen
I used this video to help with my 1.7 liter . Very helpful video and pretty much the same between the 1.6 and 1.7 liter engines. I hope this info helps someone else out . Honda 1.7 liter engine, head torque sequence: Head Bolts Tighten the cylinder head bolts sequentially in 3 steps. 1st step torque: 20 Nm (2.0 kgf/m, 14 lbf/ft) 2nd step torque: 49 Nm (5.0 kgf/m, 36 lbf/ft) 3rd step torque: 67 Nm (6.8 kgf/m, 49 lbf/ft) 9-3-1-5-7 (intake side) 8-6-2-4-10 (Exhaust side) Valve cover is (7 lbf/ft) or 86 in-lbs {use small amount of RTV sealant in round part of gasket housing} 3-2 (intake side) 5-1-4 (exhaust side)
Very good - you are a great instructor - lots of helpful hints to keep us out of trouble. Clearly you spent a lot of time planning what you wanted to say.
Great video very informative. We all need God in in our lives. Keep going man. You speak the truth. We are only hear a short time. More people need to listen to you. God be with you to keep these videos going.
You just earn a sub brother. Thank you, I was afraid to change a head gasket because of the timing issue, but now I feel confident. Christ, in the vessel, we can smile at the storm. 🙏🏿
Mechanic evangelist, I love it, you are doing the gospel brother, their is a definite anointing on your life, I was so blessed by all you had to say, the natural and the spiritual. That is a word in season and needed, the world is our pulpit, and you demonstrate that my brother . I am forwarding this to family and friends. Where do you live and church ? Your brother in Christ Paul
Thanks for making these videos. I know from experience as bieng a mechanic since i was 10 yrs old!!! That this truly saves alot of time. Even though i have a different method of holding the timing belt this just shows that you can do this with just a broom handle!!!
The trick I use is to put two mini spring clamps on either sides of the camshaft sprocket and the timing belt. Never worry about it moving a tooth.I use two for backup in case one clamp comes off I still always have one clamp one. Also very good idea to use some compressor air to blow out and away and contaminants right before putting the head on to make sure you get rid of any unwanted and unseen contaminant you don't want in your engine. Love your videos keep them coming. Recent subscriber.
This is an awesome video. I've used zip ties on the cam so the belt wouldn't move. Although pulling the cam up is genius. Next head job, I'm going to try to keep tension like the vid and also using zip ties on the side. I'll let u guys know how that works out. Thanks for the tip. God bless.
I just did my 2003 civic this way. Was easy and fast. You are a genius. I used bunjie cords to the hood put everything back cranked right up. If i could i would put pics on here but cant
Well, I am a bit late to the party, but about to tackle this job for the first time on a Honda. Thanks for the video, it is exactly what I was looking for. I have no intention of removing the lower timing cover, or messing with resetting the timing belt, and had in my mind that if I kept the timing belt attached to the cam pulley, and kept tension on it so it wouldn't drop off the crank pulley, that I would be set. Your video affirms that, so I guess now I know what I am doing, time to get at it!
I really like your speech. Very informative and a good mechanic . Im a auto and boat mechanic. I like your stuff oldskool funk. Thank you for your tips i have learned alot from your video . You know your think man. I will keep watching your videos and hope to lern the short cuts in auto repairs . Thanks to you .

Do you have video on a dual over head cam to remove the head.
R u ok?
I came for the car, but stayed for the message.
I found the last part, more important than the first.
Thank you oldskool.
Please keep doing what you are doing. God is good. He also saved me. Much love.

+oldskool funk Thank you for your old school knowledge and inspirational messages
+oldskool funk Great tip, just a suggestion instead of using the wire why not use zip ties?
I know some of the best teachers in the world and you sir are one of them. Thank you for everything. Life changing tuition.

I just showed my family this video. I changed my head gasket in two days, thanks to your expertise and encouragement. Use your time wisely!

God Bless
highwatercircutrider Ya sometimes you have to toss the book and keep it Oldskool DIY ingenuity style lol
Thank you for everything. Your excellence on what you love to do and share with us is invaluable, your massage of God and life experiences are priceless. Especially from someone that walked that line. Gracias Buen Hombre.
I love the ends when you mention Jesus Christ ....Bless you
I love these little tricks you've shown. Really impressive...that's saved you taking the belt off and the cams out. so much time saved! Well done
man i appreciate you im just starting my journey as a technician.Thank you brother for the tips and tricks of the trade. Yah Bless and Yeshua the anointed be with you. Thank you for talking about the love of Jesus Christ.

God Bless.
You have show me the light on the mystery of cylinder head recondition mean to be.Thank you for giving me the free knowledge.
my guy you just sved me from a huge headache this is a nifty trick and i will be using this when i replace my head in a few weeks
Love this guys attitude.
Great mechanic.
Keep on believing.
Wise words.
i have a 1994 honda prelude and i had to replace the valves in it because i knew nothing of timing belts and it snapped at 130,000 miles. now i know better and after pulling the head off that vehicle i said never again will i do this project because i was 18 and had no idea what i was doing. i would rather pay someone. i still have that car but 2 civics later im faced with a leaky head gasket and lagging acceleration when i first start it. granted its a singe overhead cam with more room to work than my DOHC prelude lol i still didnt want anything to do with it. but now almost 23 and after watching your tips, tricks and dissassembly videos im actually excited to tackle this project. i have already ordered the gasket kit. i just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to try again. your videos are extremely helpful. thank you!
Rick Humblet Thank You Rick. Not only will you save money its more than that, its about the fact that you can take on the challenge and DO IT YOURSELF WITH PRIDE. BE FEAR LESS and ATTACK IT God Bless.
I love your videos. Please never stop preaching about the truth in Jesus Christ, our only real savior. God bless you and your love ones.
Im doing a head job on a 93 accord next monday im going to try this method. Thank you for sharing this and your words of encouragement.
You're one of the hardest working m3n in America.
Greetings from Brazil.
You are very skllfull.
Jesus loves you missionary preachings.
these are great videos for me because im kinda scared to do major things to cars before i head to college to be an automotive techincian but these videos make it so much simpler than diagrams and pictures. good motivation for an aspiring auotomotive technician
You are one of the best mechanic men i ever see , I like the way you showing the easies way to do things , well don to you men God bless 😀👍👍👍👍
Hey Mickey is there teachers at ECC by the name of Gary Nugent, Howard Bass and Mel Robbinson?
Damn! brother ur an angel and ur a definite believer of ; "Each ONE TEACH ONE".
"just make it happen, be innovative" Another great message.
Old skool
1st.
You're a genuine Honda guru. I wish there were people like you around my area
Hi oldskool funk I love all the great jobs, tips and teaching you doing. may Joshua Ben Joseph be with you and your cup of knowledge never runs out. Amen
Thanks for always Giving God the Glory and not yourself like we are suppose to do! your awasome!
I used this video to help with my 1.7 liter . Very helpful video and pretty much the same between the 1.6 and 1.7 liter engines. I hope this info helps someone else out .
Honda 1.7 liter engine, head torque sequence:
Head Bolts
Tighten the cylinder head bolts sequentially in 3 steps.
1st step torque: 20 Nm (2.0 kgf/m, 14 lbf/ft)
2nd step torque: 49 Nm (5.0 kgf/m, 36 lbf/ft)
3rd step torque: 67 Nm (6.8 kgf/m, 49 lbf/ft)
9-3-1-5-7 (intake side)
8-6-2-4-10 (Exhaust side)
Valve cover is (7 lbf/ft) or 86 in-lbs {use small amount of RTV sealant in round part of gasket housing}
3-2 (intake side)
5-1-4 (exhaust side)
You're the best in simple repairing thinks. Respect man
Very good - you are a great instructor - lots of helpful hints to keep us out of trouble. Clearly you spent a lot of time planning what you wanted to say.
You have some of the best videos, I enjoy watching you and you're easy to understand and explanations are so simple and clear.
Great round of applause!!!!! Sir besides being a great mechanic you seem to be a great person.God bless you!!! Thanks for the tip
More folks should have your attitude. Stay positive and god bless. Great channel.
Amazing. Thank you very much. This is pure logic. Not taught in school. I am glad I found your channel.
Thank you brother. You make stuff easy, especially when there is no money
Bruh you out here saving live's man 😂😂 I can't thank you enough brotha. Simple and brilliant. Be blessed.
He's a real brother to all of us, to show us his knowledge and wisdom and the way to find our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, Amen brother
I gotta say, love your videos. Thank you so much for making these. If people don't like them, they don't have to watch them.
you gifted ,,i can see you can handle stuff,me too the same now like a lamb,,,serving God doing my best ,,keep on keeping on,,,made me happy,,one love
This is an awesome video. I've used zip ties on the cam so the belt wouldn't move. Although pulling the cam up is genius. Next head job, I'm going to try to keep tension like the vid and also using zip ties on the side. I'll let u guys know how that works out. Thanks for the tip. God bless.
Did it work?
I just did my 2003 civic this way. Was easy and fast. You are a genius. I used bunjie cords to the hood put everything back cranked right up. If i could i would put pics on here but cant
Very inspiring! God bless you brother for sharing the Gospel.
Thanks a lot for your videos and preaching. I felt like the job was to much but you made me feel like I can actually do it. Good bless you man :)
I really like your speech. Very informative and a good mechanic . Im a auto and boat mechanic. I like your stuff oldskool funk. Thank you for your tips i have learned alot from your video .
