An informative how-to on this topic with demonstration and step-by-step instruction.
that is very nice. thanks for the painting tips.
Very good video thank you for the details. Beautiful boat!
Hello. i can see the hull was blue, and now its waite, My boat is painted dark blue too ( looks like a Paul Watson hvaler ship). I am planning to pailt it waite and this video makes me vanne start imidetly. regards from Norway
Oh I wish I knew about that trick to find the correct blend and texture of the paint before I painted my boat. I will def. try that the next time. Thanks! :)
Hi, thanks for your comment. For those spots, the employees at the marina yard will safely move the jacks, usually for a small fee. Our yard even puts rags between the jack and your boat so that it doesn't scratch the new paint job. The paint is dry to the touch in a few hours usually, and hard by the next day. It depends on the paint of course, they all have the specs on the can, and a company number to call with questions. It is something to plan an extra day for. Hope this helps!
Very nice boat, congratulations!
Hi Amelia and Grant, you guys did a fantastic job painting your boat and your video is excellent. (I love the mirror trick) In reply to Stephen's question below, you can access under the boat stands yourself and I made a RUclips video showing how I did this. Search RUclips for 'How to paint under boat cradles when applying antifouling (bottom paint)' to find the video 👍
Fair winds!
thanks for this video! Very helpful!
Whatever way you roll you tip the opposite way. It turns out almost a mirror finish.
Exactly!!!!
Thanks for the tips
Your video's are great. I appreciate the way you take the time to explain what you are going to do in a clear and concise way. You seem to have the heart of a teacher. On that note, do you have any thoughts on how to deal with deck crazing? I was thinking about covering mine up with a thick layer of glue and then Plas teak.
Thanks for your comment. Here are some tips for deck crazing. Crazing might mean leaks into the core. Test for that w/ light hammer taps. If the core is wet it should be repaired/ replaced and the leaks sealed with epoxy.
Very helpful video! Thanks - when you are doing a bottom job how do you handle the spots where the jacks come in contact with the hull? Do you temporarily move them one way or the other? I would think you would need the paint to really harden before moving onto a newly painted surface, but that would keep you from always working from a 'wet' edge. I'm sure it must be simple, but it seems confusing to me. Thanks again for the video - much better than a post from a paint manufacturer.
Nice job.
How long did it take?
Did you paint the top sides as well?
Thanks for you comment. It took hours and hours and hours, lol. Total project time: two weeks. Once the primer was on and it was prepped in a few hours, to paint one side took about an hour and a half to go from one side to the other. But they repainted a few times until they got the finish they wanted. The topsides were not painted on this boat, but they were on Velocir using the same paint and methods.
What is the estimated cost of paint and supplies for that project?
Thanks for your comment. The best answer is that it depends on what you use. The paint used in this project was Interlux Perfection and Epoxy Primekote primer, the rest is the little stuff- a bunch of brushes, tape, paint thinner, gloves, --containers to mix the paint can be purchased from a grocery store's deli section very cheaply.
Great hair style!!
Why don't you spray it? Smooth flat thin or thick depend on coats
Thanks for your comment, they have been rolling and tipping for over 40 years it's what they prefer.
sv Velocir Sorry it was not a very good question.. personal choice is the deciding factor. Seems Roll and tip is most common choice. God bless
