Cheap mice are great fodder for modding experiments! Another modification I can suggest to tighten up and normalize the clicks is to add the thinnest foam strips you can find to the stabilizers of the click paddles. Depending on how thin you can get the foam, (like for example deskeys switch film) your clicks can feel solid with less room to wobble around. Only caveat to this is if you use thicker or longer strips of foam, it might muddy up the click feel.
