The brapping idle is from a high overlap port job. Bigger ports mean it can move more air, meaning more power, but a side effect is that at low RPM the intake and exhaust are open at the same time. Some of the intake air goes out the exhaust, which is why it's smoking, some of the exhaust air tries to go out the intake, which is why it braps, and a lot of the exhaust air ends up going back through the combustion cycle again (with no O2 this time). This is why some rotaries with particularly large ports like the Mazda Factory Racing peripheral ported engines are incapable of idling at reasonable speeds, sometimes requiring as much as 2000 RPM to prevent stalling.
Porting done to the side plates, be it large street port or bridgeport. There is overlapping at idle which causes the uneven idle brap brap brap, the more overlap, the more prominent the brap brap brap sound.
+TrampLord Caesar By enlarging/extending and adding a port on the Iron plates of the engine. It's pretty interesting. Look up what a Bridgeport is or Jport, Peripheral port, extended port, stuff like that and they usually sound a bit different.
+Ramsess Yanez you can install south coast rotary unbreakable apex seals, giving the engine the same mileage as a piston engine, depending how you treat it of course.
I would say that car sounds like shit. Unless, just like one of the comments said below, "A Port", the thing that makes it not, is the smoke its letting out at idle. Sounds more like a rebuild to me. The exhaust, all rotary's sound like that, the best exhaust in my opinion is the "Re-Amemiya Dolphin Exhaust."
my fav engine is a 20b I love the sound of a triple. But cant`t justify spending £20k on a tuned engine. When you've had 2 engine failures in less than 2 yrs you start to question having the dam thing.
