"What is he running from?"
"What isn't he running from?"
heavy, man.
Oh My! Wtf is wrong with you
He's running from reality. Some people speculate that everything we saw before him running was all the thoughts in his mind, the dancing are the moments he was distracted from reality.
unlocked That doesnt make him wrong though now does it.
He running from the kkk, killers, anything bad. Etc
That last shot is one of my favorite parts of the video. In just a few seconds they use 4 different lighting setups and camera angles to make the 1 shot of him running take on 4 very different perspectives. There's so much going on in that video and every bit of it belongs there.
"It's kind of hard to keep track of all the mass shootings in America at this point."
Sadly true.
💔
Donald Lusk We get a break every summer from School Shootings, and then its back to Russian Roulette and our Government at the ready to offer their Thoughts and Prayers. The US should be ashamed of itself.
Axel Drans Same here. Our Government doesnt give a shit. Nobody is willing to do anything because People in this Country would consider it an act of war to regulate Guns in any form. So basically Politicians stay away from it because if they speak out then its committing political suicide. Its a sad state of affairs in the US. Holding onto their power is more important than Public welfare.
You realize Ireland is about the size of Indiana. We have 37 STATES bigger than Ireland. And Ireland has roughly 4.8 million people. That's just a little more than HALF the population of NYC. Stands to reason that things are going to happen more in a country this large.
Axel Drans
I'm all for getting rid of the over 21,000 gun laws in the US, since you think they're non-existent. BTW, guns in the US are used for protection over 2 MILLION times each year. Sounds like a perfectly fine trade off to me.
Love how Irish people understand racism in the US better than people in the US.
Jill Greene they’ve kinda been through some shit 😂
yeah. They went through the same things Black people did.
Angelo Gopaul Sure have. I watched a video called " Why the Irish were hated" on here. The fact that they were referred to as the White N word blew me away.
If anyone review history they will discover that the crux of white supremacy has always been an inferiority complex. Finish people were also considered Asians and not true European whites. and they are amongst the palest people on the planet. When it was understood how great a civilization Egypt was and how it influenced Greek mathematics and philosophy and religion, they stopped looking down on Egypt and retroactively tried to include them in the white group by calling them tanned Caucasians. Afro-Semitics like Libyans, Egyptians and Ethiopians are so far removed from the European people, trying to connect them is fool hardy. White supremacy should really be called the Caucasian delusion (not to disparage Caucasians who dont have it btw, not all white people are bad), because race is not a real thing, and any superiority one group has over the other is mostly dumb luck/a result on how history plays out than anything else. any group of people can display the same set of features given enough time to adapt to environmental pressures.
What cognitive malfunction do you need to have to think that the US has put a stop to racism? On what planet does a society in which a cop can literally murder a black man on tape and get away with not a single day in jail signify that we've put an end to racism? We incarcerate a higher percentage of our minority population than any other country. These are facts.
Shot out to Ireland, the interpretation was spot on.
Christian Ventura most of us know good music when we see it and the dept of this videos message is unmeasurable
I agree.
hmmm......almost as if someone read through that twitter thread disecting the entire video.... song is not very good though.
shekhar rudra depends what you mean by good. It served its purpose.
Yes, some of them did some research. So did a lot of Americans. That's why this video is so great- it inspired people to educate themselves.
Anyway, when it comes to calling bullshit on oppression, the Irish get it. (Talking about the REAL Irish, not necessarily Irish Americans.)
The part where he smoked the joint, he paused for 17 seconds to honor the parkland shooting victims
It's so sad to hear someone from another country say "it's hard to keep track of American Mass shooters at this point." It's so sad how true that statement is.
It is sad 😭
Here from 2022, a day after the Robb Elementary shooting. Our 212th mass shooting this year.
When he mocks holding a gun at the end, all the school kids run away in fear. He pauses there for 17 seconds- one second for each of the victims in the Florida school shooting.
M DR yes!! Good catch!
M DR wondering now how long the pause would have to be for the amount of black people killed by other black people in a month 🤔
@@armymarshal13 or how long it would be if we looked at any inter racial crime. Its 8th grade economics that cover proximity crime. But hey, I guess you never made it that far in education?
I didnt even know that. Wow
Ryan liked it? Donald glover you did it.
Mini Panini he really can do anything!
My exact thoughts lmaoo
Checked one more box. Is there anything Donald Glover can't do?
There's one thing he can't do... disappoint.
i know right. Ryan doesn't like anything.
Dudes beard is majestic
DeeJayCee lol
DeeJayCee
People boners over beards. It's the latest sexy thing. Must be where I live cause I've seen similar beards on a daily basis for the last ten years.
Adam Scarpetta Yes. It's the latest sexy thing to women. I've always had a beard but it's never gotten nearly as long
Not as majestic as dumbledore or Gandalf’s
"What isn't he running from" DAMN. GOTTDANG
PsychoEditor the people running behind him are running with their arms restricted in movement.
It reminds me of a "B" movie I watched a few years ago where some evil organization was conspiring to control the world population with this puppet drug. The puppets ran the same way as the people running behind Donald.
As if, Donald was trying to escape assimilation into the Puppet Master's control.
I'm Irish. I was discussing the video with my friend who's a 1st Generation Immigrant who moved from Nigeria to Ireland in 2015 and this is what we interpreted. She said his dance moves at the very start of the video (chest tensing, Rolling shoulders back and forth ect) are reminiscent of some traditional tribal dances from West Africa she's seen. She said the uniforms are near identical to the uniforms she wore in Nigeria. Also notice when he's alone in the video versus when he's surrounded by his community. When Glover is celebrating African culture through his dance he's surrounded and thus supported by his community and fan base as they dance along. However when Glover attempts to broach a tough issue such as gun violence within his community "guns in my area" utter chaos ensues and all his fan base run away leaving him standing alone. This leads to a vicious cycle where Glover simply goes on celebrating his community and culture meanwhile the chaos and social issues within his community aren't addressed or solved and continue to get worse in the background. The cycle repeats as he repeats "This is America" as such bad race relations is a uniquely American (U.S.) issue. In the end Glover attempts to escape this cycle and escape the warehouse which represents an echo-chamber of sorts but his fanbase and community turn on him and chase after him like an angry mob which has ironically lynch like imagery.
This is just the interpretation we reached so I thought I'd share. We're not experts so could easily be wrong.
very interesting. i appreciate this share. also, true - the only ones that actually do know what it meant are the ones that created the video concept. that is usually solely the creation of the director and not the singer/interpreter. all we can do is speculate on what they were thinking.
Donald has said himself multiple times that his dancing in this video was not so much a tribute to anything but just the way he dances.
Your friend has a real bias against African-Americans and our community to see what she saw. A lot of Nigerians do bc they consume a lot of american pop culture that shows African-Americans in a negative light. To say that Glover would even THINK let alone have the balls to make a video in which African-Americans are trying to lynch him is...... just breath taking. Lynching is very, very serious in our community, there's absolutely no way a blk man would insult us in such a way.
The video wasn't about African-Americans vs African-Americans, it was about African-Americans vs America as a failing state.
Thank you for sharing
Charles Sweeney I think you missed the point. The issue is about the black community vs white America. As a society, we American’s have normalized mass shootings and injustices. Gun violence happens every single day. Honestly the people in this video are spot on as to what this video is really about.
"Frustratingly talented" is the perfect description.
Did...did Ryan like something?
HarrietTwelveThree Crazy right!
When you look back at all of the things he took a pass on you have to admit that for the most part they were inconsequential bits of fluff that were either derivative in nature or kinda trying too hard to stand out. Never had a problem with him sneering at any of that.
Joel Watson
He hated on Doctor Who once though and that was probably the only time I was like, "yeah, okay. Shut up grumpy bot." Usually I agree with him or at least find it funny.
Came down to say exactly this. :D
I did as well
"Whats he running from?"
"What isn't he running from?" Wow
It's a dam shame people from over the pond understand the video better then Americans do...
Markus Stevens aka BIG INFINITE I'm black. American. old. apparently unwoke. totally feeling insecure at how they understood the video. respec.
Because it's NOT AMERICA! It's propaganda and nonsense.
The media LIES and shows propaganda and bullshite...NOT REALITY. The United States is not violent except in very few places. We could drop 4 cities and be one of the safest places in the world. We don't have a gun problem we have a perception problem with a few people that are pure evil. All countries have evil people in them. Out of over 350 million legal people and 30 to 80 million Illegal people we have less than 8k murders a year. We are not violent and we don't have a gun problem. We have a propaganda problem. This video is a lie and an embarrassment.
ruclips.net/video/XTe9bFSOVWg/видео.html
Agreed man. I totally agree. Americans have no clue what this song means at all.
@1:28 she said its hard to keep up with mass shootings in America. She ain't lying. We almost have 1 per week. No gun violence seems abnormal.
Black Cherubim Facts.
Actually, we don't.
@@lowkey1969 we dont what?
We do, this past month its been one mass shooter after the next
If you count a mass shooting as four people shot in a single incident (as per the FBI definition), then we in America have a mass shooting every single day now ... www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/11/08/thousand-oaks-california-bar-shooting-307th-mass-shooting/1928574002/ + www.vox.com/2018/9/20/17882888/mass-shootings-us-aberdeen-maryland + www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2017/oct/02/america-mass-shootings-gun-violence
Wow, the Irish people are more woke than most Americans everyone in this video was spot on! And the redhead is GORGEOUS!!! ayye girl i see you *wink wink*
They've been through some stuff over there.
Catherine King What kind of stuff?
They had there own battles with slavery. Also, the almost twenty year war between the Irish Catholics and Protestants (mainly Britain) over civil rights.
I remember that. i apologize
Agent Coleson being woke pretty much means believing things that are not true via a confirmation bias and propaganda
What a beard. Jealous
I hate facial hair, but he's kinda cute.
Is it? I've seen similar beards on a daily basis.
Looks different on different people.
I loved that she said that. It's more than just music. This is art. It's suppose to make you feel something.
I really appreciate that they noticed the details, references, and anologies. They did so respectfully. I appreciate that so much. When we link as humanity we can solve so much!!! Listening to each other is key.
I feel like most of the channels I'm subscribed to have been getting shallower and more bright colours, shiny, simplistic recently. And then you guys go and do something insightful and serious. Thank you!
It's not serious. It's shallow Social Justice Warrior virtue-signalling.
For something so shallow you have strong feelings on the subject Gwynie imma assume that you were turned down by a POC at some point to have this much white rage. There's a support group ill get you the number 😘
gwayneco or and hear me out now its a muic video by an american artist who is fed up with the apathy and complacency of his country and the rampant gun violence racism and police brutality come back to reality and you'd be able to see what we all see
well, Hani , that was rather prejudicial of you... Assuming that gwayneco is white because they said something you did not agree with .. Doubly prejudicial to assume what they said was "white rage" .
I know Gary is white and if he's not he wants be white which is sadder also I SAID WHAT I SAID Mystic 💞
I love the music video. It’s so crazy. The patience and skill in creating it is mad 🙌🏻
Love you, Paul, but as an American, I resent the fuck out of this slander.
As an American i say 2 cheers for Paul You Go Paul 👏👏👏
Go away Gary
Read this.

Gary gary GareBear can i call you that? Who cares anywho i said come at me with facts from a study or a proper NEWS Channrl not a blog run by randos...try again come on now I believe in you Gary Show me up sweetheart
"This is clearly some sort of statement about being black in America and America's love affair with guns and the juxtaposition of consumerist society and our love of entertainment."...u said a mouthful & as an American I feel like i've been read and I can't even be mad.
Background vs. Foreground
Guy:"What is he running from?"
Other GUY: "What ISN'T he running from?"
Oh man this video is a trip... I absolutely love Donald Glover, the choreographer did an amazing job visualizing/choreographing his words.
Amazing video today guys 😍😍😍
afropunk.com/2018/05/meet-the-choreographer-behind-childish-gambinos-this-is-america-video/
nadia you do know they are the same guy right.... just asking because of the way you phrased it.
Matthew Bright yeah sorry, I edited my comment to make more sense. I've had no sleep today and am completely scatter brained.
Nadia Mohamed Lmao... well this just popped up in my suggested feed and I had to watch For Old Times Sake. I'm actually get to watch a paused all of 9 seconds in just to find you and say hi😊😘
Mr Nick lol did you actually notice it was a new channel? 😘
Not gonna lie, once I saw the thumbnail and title I was all in. I missed this group of folks!
Victoria Rodriguez Me too, I missed watching them to react to stuff...do you know what happened to the Facts channel?
So glad that people in other countries get it and don’t just accept the type of information that is spoon fed to us by the media. I have always wanted to go to Ireland but wasn’t sure how African Americans (a ridiculous label) are viewed abroad. This makes me want to take a chance.
You would be very welcome Tammie, we would love to have you visit.
I don’t know about small cities, probably people there are xenophobic like in every small all-white place, but Dublin is very nice, you should visit.
Irish people are really good-natured.
"Oh the Gospel choir, couldnt go wrong with that"
Me: Ooof 😅
The dude with the long, gray beard was spot on with his observations
They get it .
I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY THE KNOWLEDGE YOU ALL HAD YOU GUYS WERE WELL INFORMED MADE THE VIDEO GREAT
I love how aware of social issues everybody in this video is, you're doing fantastic, guys
Ryan is always just the most positive person
Klaus von Beovulf
He had nothing but positive things to say.
As an American I appreciate the commentary from all of the contributors in this episode. This song and the video as a whole are so much more than entertainment, it shows deep and realistic imagery to the way our country has oppressed and mistreated African Americans, and our love affair with guns. Your comedic videos are outstanding but it's refreshing to see you take a more serious approach to something like this.
Kylie mistreated African Americans by African Americans.... Blacks are killing blacks at an alarming rate. Statistics are there. We have had Black Secretaries of State, 5 star Generals, oh and President, Mayors, Senators, wtf are you talking about?
I agree Kylie. The video was well thought out.
Christopher Holton clearly someone hasn’t watched the news.
But you live your truth.
I don't buy your explanation. If you've seen any of his Atlanta shows you know he's juxtaposing cultural values in the Black community. Praising the creative but damning the counterproductive.
Christopher Holton
Wow. What's it like living in Narnia?
OMFG UR BACK!! BUT A NEW CHANNEL YES!!! LIFE IS SAVED!!! =D Luv u guys!
I love this reaction, they are spot on. The video is a piece of art about how pathetically distracted we are by bullshit, even in the face of extreme violence and tragedy. That is America.
Wait.. Madi? The last time I looked she wasnt on the list of Tryers. Glad she is now!
The website is constantly being updated as tryers continue to join the channel 😊
Good to hear, theres others that ive been missing :(
I literally did a out loud "yay" when I saw her..... :)
I'm so glad you guys are back I was scared that I wouldn't see the Irish cast of reactors
THIS is why I absolutely ADORE them! Smart, open minded, forward thinking, beautiful-beautiful bunch of people!
I am soooooo happy you guys are back\ still here\ still making amazing content. In my head you are all my Irish best mates! I am here for it ALL!
Arguably - from this old af white American male - the greatest music video of all time. Given its timing, political statement, choreography, etc., it would be hard to convince me otherwise. I want to see a full-length documentary just on the recording of the song through the planning and shooting of the video. I'll never give Ryan shite again for being such a curmudgeon having heard him say such good things about CG/Donald Glover. And, to end on a separate note ... Madi's back and that makes me very happy (although I love you all, just so's you know).
Stupid af.
gwayneco ignorant af.
gwayneco
Damn dude, who shit in your oatmeal this morning?
Ethan Reusora how is my understanding the history of America, systematic racism, the way our gun laws are insanely flawed, and how money is more important than the lives of POC, women, children... how is that being uneducated?
Ethan Reusora whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy.
"what ISN'T he running from." exactly.
The level of understanding in this video was overwhelming. Thank you for this one 👌
I'm so glad you all are back, when this music video came out I wished you all were around to react to it. And then I found you all again! Thank you for reacting to this.
“Those who are willing to give up essential liberty, to purchase temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety” -Benjamin Franklin
exactly, keep them guns.
no. That would be foolish. I don't need testing to approve my liberties. Something that subjective could easily be just as bad as a gun ban. That being said, your assuming that these measures would stop mass shootings. People are going to get their hands on guns. Im not giving mine up because some nutball decided to break the law. in fact it gives me more incentive to keep them. You cannot vote away violence, and you cannot legislate normalcy. Anyone who is trying to convince you otherwise is manipulating you. Think for yourself, buy a gun.
I'm arguing that there is nothing to be done. It is not feasible to take away guns. I am not arguing for more guns. Also, your using hyperbole. You cant expect that kind of exaggeration to be a good point to make. There are fools in every state that has access to guns. But the actual issue is this. The same fools have access to illegal guns as well. It is a catch 22 and Id rather be on the end that allows me to arm myself. Your amendment right isn't just about protecting yourself from nutjobs, its about forming a militia against your government.
it isn't hyperbole, its literal. Look up the word before you use it. Also read the amendment. Its not an exaggeration, neither was I suggesting it be done right now. Its a safeguard against tyrannical governments, did u learn nothing in high school? Well regulated? Is that suppose to be a good point? Did u think I was implying a poorly managed militia? If it is substantially harder, then what are you complaining about? You literally just changed your stance lmao. Your ad hominem attacks aren't helping either. You haven't proven that something *Must* be done about guns. I don't concede on this point. You cannot legislate normalcy, you cannot vote away violence. Taking away my rights or restricting them isn't the answer. People still own guns in Australia, but that's a red herring. Australia is not America, citing them as an example is disingenuous to the topic. Also home invasions skyrocketed after the ban.
ad hominem and arrogant to think your regressive ideology is the way of the entire country (it isn't, to think that so shows how out of touch you are in the way the country is actually moving). Also, you still haven't proven your way of thinking is correct, some of us like to use reason before endorsing ideology. But if you want to be one of the cattle your more than welcome.
I've never subbed to a channel so quickly in my life! So glad you guys are back!
I thought I'd lost you guys!!!!! Done gone into mourning over the Facts channel but here you are. Yay!
love from Kenya
I’m into this more serious reaction video. Some of the Tryers are incredibly intelligent, well-spoken people, so it’s cool to see this discussion. 👍🏻
Irish people watch Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer
I would be SO here for that!
Amazing. I´m Irish and was blown away.
I think I watched this too early in the day. I'll be back.
Absolutely incredible.
I've watched the video probably over 10 times, and feel like I could watch it another 10 times and still not catch all of the symbolism and imagery and what its commentary on American society is.
I hoped that you guys would do this and you didn’t disappoint. I can’t remember the last time that a music video got this much attention and I’m glad this one has made such a mark in just a week.
Yay! My favorite Irish People are back reacting to things! I've missed you guys since Facts ended
"it's kinda hard to keep track of all American mass shooters at this point" That statement is everything. We've had so many shootings we can't even keep up.
💔
It gone the same here in Dublin with gang shootings..at the start it was shock and dismay, now its just uh another one...
Q. Why I'm not giving up my guns. A. Shootings.
Almost 90% of mass shootings are gang related. When you say mass shooting without context people assume school shootings.
I love these folks! Blessings from Atlanta, Georgia!
😘
I missed all of you from FACTS so much. You were one of two series that I never missed. I am thrilled you are back in some way. Welcome back!
Oh shit!!!! I'm soooo happy to see you guys back at it. Missed you guys so much.
"its kinda hard to keep track of all the american massacres" .... .. . . . . its so true but hurts to hear.
Milwaukee yesterday....already forgotten.
Thank you thank you thank you for covering this guys!!!
So happy yall are back
Loved how in tune you all are!
Blimey! Never seen Ryan so animated! It's a kickass video, I was wondering if you guys were going to review it.
On a side note, great to see y'all. It occurred to me the other day (lol yes belatedly) that I have not seen a facts video in ages (and I am subscribed ) and then I saw that while it may have gone farewell, there is this channel in it's place. good to see ya faces again :)
That said, the song and video is a piece of art and I love it for all the layers
So, FACTS is now The TRY channel... FAB - following and great review.
You know what I really appreciate. I just discovered this channel this week & aside from your excellent funny food videos & alcohol related segments. You lot put more thought, empathy & consideration towards world events than a large section of people here in America. Thank You. Bear with us. We will get this thing figured out. Your all really enjoyable & much more so now that I can see your genuine personalities.
I'm so confused why is this here and not facts. did I miss an announcement? Theres nothing on facts telling me y'all moved.... now I have two months of videos to catch up on?????
Chantal Monette because facts was a poorly ran channle and got shut down... This is ran by the same people though i think sooooo we shall see
Correct me if im wrong
Mophead YT shutting down without an announcement is a bitch move. I know it wasn’t them I watched a bunch of their videos about it now but like... geez
I was saying the SAME thing!
Yea, what happened?? I saw Harker and others talking about Facts. shutting down on their personal channels and then this just popped up. If this is the same people running it, they're highly unprofessional.
I haven't seen anyone notice how everybody ran for their lives as soon as he made the gesture of a firearm and it got dead silent.
This was awesome to watch! Love you all at Try!
This is the best day ever. Randomly exploring RUclips and I find my favorite Irish people are back and trying new things!
I appreciate that they gave actual commentary unlike some reaction videos where people watch without any constructive input. I liked this. Thank you.
(Side note: I still want more of Dermot. For every video that gets uploaded without Dermot, I will eat my emotional weight in chicken nuggets. Think of the chickens. And my kids, because these nuggets are theirs. They're getting mad at me for eating all their nuggets.)
Kelly Dean Nooo not the nuggetssssssss!!!!!!!!! 😵😢😭😭
I watched four people from Korea react to "This Is America" last night (on Rachel Kim's channel). That the buzz about this video has gone international is an interesting part of the story, now. I find it fascinating to watch the world watch this.
“It’s kind of hard to keep up with all of America’s mass shootings” it’s almost like we should do something about that...
This was amazing
Hurray for the return of Madi
She was gone? How could you tell?
She escaped the upside down
Happy to be here before all the “ people are giving this too much meaning” comments.
Great video lads 👌🏽
I mean, I don't get most of the meaning and references but its clearly there I'm just a dullard
There's a difference between meaning and flat out lies and misinformation.
@Sam T. Found the troll bait
They didn't give their real thoughts on it. They already researched before they 'watched' the video. That's why their opinions are 'spot on'.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's refreshing to see simmularities in opinionion and different reactions.
Irish people try old school board games
omg yes! that would be so fun to watch! :)
There's was a time in American history where the Irish were nearly as persecuted as blacks.
and how badly the Chinese were treated in early days of California..
It's fascinating how so many cultures were treated badly, and how quickly they forget once they're allowed to sit at the table.
The discrimination against cultures other than blacks in the US is something not thought of often. Not disregarding any racism towards blacks of course, but I can say without a doubt that they don’t really go over a lot of Angel Island or the Chinese Exclusion Act much in history classes
I'm Irish American myself and I remember reading something from the 1850s, paraphrasing but it was something like "their woman can be trustworthy if you train them young, but they tend to start having too many kids to feed. The men are worthless lazy thieves and scammers that just drink all day". That's how they described Irish, and 150 years later that's how I've heard people of Irish decent describe blacks. How quickly people forget.
Johan Smallberries yeah the Chinese Exclusion act was literally the only law in the US that banned a race by name and it gets hardly any attention. There’s still stereotypes too that have an impact on asian Americans, but since they’re “positive” there’s hardly any focus (same w the bamboo ceiling)
I love watching y'all. Seeing y'all makes my day.
Great to see the facts group back. This is an interesting change in venue-from fun, light-hearted (facts) content to something far more serious, this channel has potential to vault to the global stratosphere.
Ryan has been the most positive person so far on The Try Channel, in the history of The Try Channel Ryan has not said one negative thing , we could all learn a little from Ryan and his positivity
Stephen
Ryan is a ray of sunshine beamed out of a pig's butt. 👍👍
Misty - thats so beautiful. I almost cried. (and yeah, the moment I found out that Ryan likes Gilmore Girls, I went he aint that bad. LOL)
Tony Rosales
I have a way with words.
This music video is God tier.
ColinFilm hahahahahahahahhahaa
Not even close
ColinFilm is good
ColinFilm when you realize Colin basically asks to bring on the pain 😂
ColinFilm So are the memes
Notice all of the older model cars in what looks like could be a shutdown auto production plant in Flint, MI. So much going on in this video. Very well done.
im really relieved you guys educated them before they reviewed them. thanks for this
it made me so sad that they knew the name of the church shooter then she said its hard to keep up with all the shooter's names because there's so many to keep up with. The fact that America is known highly all around the world for its senseless gun violence is tragic.
Great reactions.
what a bunch of insightful people, this song is a dramatic piece to highlight the way america sees violence. it's shocking but absolutely true
i love how they all
caught on so quickly!!
Really awesome that you guys seem to have gotten the point of the video.
It's conveying how we, America, all of us, are perfectly willing to consume black culture greedily and without restraint, while completely ignoring the multitude of problems that Black America has to deal with, from cops killing unarmed black people to black people being imprisoned for things like marijuana while white people get far more lenient sentences on average, to the decades (nearly a century) of redlining (look it up, basically, it's refusing to loan money to qualified black people for houses, thereby segregating them from neighborhoods and creating the modern American ghettos), to simple casual racism, both aggressive and passive.
We're willing to watch the fun minstrel show, but we're not actually going to stand up and defend our fellow Americans, because that takes effort and we just don't care. And it's not just about white people...look at that last sequence. They're all normal people, of all ethnicities, chasing black culture, regardless of what that does to it.
If you watch Atlanta (also created by Donald Glover), that show touches a lot of the same topics brought up in this video. Damned good show. Check it out.

Ah yes, bloggers, famous for being unbiased and only using the best sources, Gary.
Mikaela C if you bring 5 sources from different places, Gary will still show you that same link. I saw that link more than twice now. 😂
Verbatim Verbatim so you’re saying that the events re-enacted in the video never happened? Jim Crow, police brutality, the shooting in the church, the riots? Also, he highlights gang violence in the video! He’s making a statement on so many ongoing issues within and without his own community, as well as issues facing America, that affects more than the black community...and you only see that one thing to serve your POV.
Verbatim per capita, black people are being killed by cops at an alarming higher rate than white people.
Well damn Irish people caught everything it seems good stuff
Watch the Atlanta episode "Teddy Perkins" (not necessarily for a video). It was directed by the same man as "This is America," and follows a similar theme. I think the story in the episode is independant enough to stand alone without the context of the rest of the show.
OMG, you guys!!! I was subscribed to FACTS channel but unsubscribed when you guys were no longer there. And now I'm stumbling upon this channel by accident, saw familiar reactors and subscribed immediately. You guys are awesome so entertaining! Glad to see you back! 🎉 😊
They changed the channel and I didn't know so I was like what the heck happened to these guys xD
The 17 second pause is a moment of silence dedication to the 17 teens who were killed in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on 4/20/18.
I LOVED the video the first time I saw it. I said it was a piece of art when I shared it on Facebook
AHHH YOU GUYS ARE BACK
I just now watched This Is America. Great insights and commentary from everyone. I am not great with symbolism (I feel ignorant admitting this) so thank you, Davey, for your explanations. Great job, gang. Keep 'em coming.
Gina D. Torres a few of his explanations were a tad off. But for the most part he did pretty good. It’s seriously one of those videos that have something new to find every time you see it.
I live in Los Angeles and I have to say thank you for reacting to this.... seriously thank you
Oh Ryan....you wonderful, heartwarming soul.
i’m so fucking excited that all of the facts people came back to together for the most part
