Imperfect Past tense (Pretérito Imperfecto) with films in Spanish

The focus of this video is Pretérito Imperfecto, a grammatical tense which is very useful when you want to talk about the past.
In order to use a verb in Pretérito Imperfecto, you need to take the base form and add the right ending. The endings for verbs of the 1st group (-ar) are: aba, abas, aba, ábamos, abais, aban, for the 2nd (-er) or 3rd (-ir) group: ía, ías, ía, íamos, íais, ían.
For example, if you want to use the verb “hablar”, it will look like this:
Yo hablaba
Tú hablabas
Él/Ella/Usted hablaba
Nosotro(a)s hablábamos
Vosotro(a)s hablabais
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes hablaban
If you want to use the verb “comer”, it will look like this.
Yo comía
Tú comías
Él/Ella/Usted comía
Nosotro(a)s comíamos
Vosotro(a)s comíais
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes comían
Unlike Pretérito Indefinido ( • Past Simple (Pretérito... ) o Pretérito Perfecto ( • Present Perfect (Preté... , this tense is used to describe unfinished actions in the past: descriptions, repeated actions, a fact that was true at a certain moment in the past, or actions that were occurring at a certain point in the past.
Fortunately, this tense only has three main irregular verbs that you have to watch out for:
ser (era, eras, era, éramos, erais, eran), ir (iba, ibas, iba, íbamos, íbais, iban) y ver (veía, veías, veía, veíamos, veíais, veían).
There are certain "markers" to look out for, time words that will help you understand that you need to use Pretérito Imperfecto, e.g.:
antes - before
de pequeño/de joven/cuando era pequeño/joven - when I was little/young
en aquella época - in those times
mientras - while
