Elections have consequences and we have living proof of it. Thanks for your videos. Learning a lot. Love your shots and Tuesday tips. 👍
Wow I'm early, I have to repair my neighbors roof soon had multiple shingles blown off on a 14/12 pitch been seeing that alot lately and am trying to start my own buisness. Been watching you for awhile and agree with everything you say always hate to see expensive "repairs" that look like someone just poured tar everywhere
That is pretty steep, be interesting to know if they blew out or if they more so heated up and fell out due to nail placement being wrong. If you have a picture close up of the damage send it over on our Facebook page messenger. Be curious to see the nail placement. Be careful on it, thanks!
Flapper 😅 👍🏼 I’m getting my house build down here in Florida once they do the shingles I feel like I can do a good inspection with the things I’ve learned watching your videos 👍🏼👍🏼
Like the channel, your vids are to the point and don't drag on. I now need a hatchet hammer. I've seen you talk about price increases some. We have had luck with getting flat roof, small commercial jobs recently. But with the unavailability of components, throwing GACO coating over the roof happens more. GACO coating went from around $250 a bucket to $650 in a couple months, with it expecting to go over 800 or 900 soon. Is that the same for you where you're at, I'm near stlouis? A generic brand Top Coat has stayed relatively low.
Most of what we do is asphalt shingles then steal. I have done a bit of rubber over the years but since late 2020 it has been almost impossible to get some of the components like blackboard or ISO bored. All of the suppliers I have reached out to recently have said they have nothing and are not expected to get until sometime in 2023 if they do. That's not good to hear about the silicone coating systems, I need to get pricing for a couple possible large barn coatings.
@@GrandRoofingInc We used to go to one supplier for pvc roofs or other flat materials. Past 6 months we would have to hit about 4 places to get all of it. Now it isn't even possible. That's why GACO is getting away with gouging so hard. If it goes to 1000 a bucket, it would be the same price as a brand new roof 2 years ago, just for a coating.
I just looked online and saw it as low as 500 for gaco, maybe it is trending down. Other off brands were a bit lower. I think RP Lumber might be in your area, they should have an offbrand.
Isn't the edge hanging over gonna be a flapper 😉 I'm sure that'll fix the problem until they get it replaced in a few years. I've done many repairs like that and never heard about it again until it was replacement time
Hey, hey - similar repair to what I emailed you a month or so ago with photos and explanation using copper metal to divert water away from faulty valley.
I did get the email, I wanted to try to do a video about that if possible? I just haven't had time. Most times I run out of time just trying to get done what I need to do for the business.
@@GrandRoofingInc Sure. That is a great idea. This was a very elusive problem until I finally figured it out. When pointed out, easy diagnosis. But getting to that point was challenging. Let me know if/when you get it together, you need any more photos.
Hey Brian, thanks for sharing this fix! You mentioned since the surfaces were wet that normal silicone GSL wouldn't stick, what did you use instead/recommend? Flapper... Have you installed zinc shield roll/anti-moss at the top of roofs or have any suggestions to prevent moss from growing on shingles? Thank you
Geocel 4500 will stick with water, takes a little pressing onto the surface but does work. Yes I have installed them, I'm not a fan of the look especially when you're putting them on dark colored roofs. I don't know that they will help the moss so much typically it's for the streaking. Just make sure if you install them you watch your nail placement when it comes to a key way.
Question.. my roof is leaking I think in one or both valleys which come down to the front porch as there is water damage to the wood under the porch…it’s 15 years old and shingles still in good condition, but also have nail pops in multiple areas on the roof.. one roofer wanted to repair one valley another wanted to repair both valleys and a third wanted to replace the entire roof saying the nails are popping out because it’s a nail over and the nails are only an inch and a half and that’s why their backing out .. Anyone have any idea ?
Cali valley with 3 tab is guaranteed problems. Valley metals are no better. It has to be weaved. If you have to install 3 tab it should only be for simple gables. Those key ways between the tabs that run against the flow are direct pathways to the nail that is on top of the key on the shingle below.
I live in Vancouver bc and that's all we do, but it's exposed w valley metal. Shingles are usually ran 2/3" from the w bend, and people either do a bleeder Shingler or a cut valley, so in total that makes it so there's no nails withing like 8" or something from the inner valley area. Definitely prefer doing it that way over a shingle valley
@@mr.g937 I think it's a thing to put like stock coil metal in the valley, under the shingles. To give it more support and to act as protection if water were to get in the valley
@@mr.g937 not sure really, I've never done it myself. I've always just used ice and water shield and made sure I pressed it into the valley and that there wasn't any loose nails and such that would tear it
Good job flapper. Been doing freebies like these for years. Sometimes homeowners remember that, sometimes they don't. It's a small price to pay for any roofer. Haha Thanks I wasn't sure how I wanted to reply to his reference. I get those every now and then and it has nothing to do with the skin color. I'm actually a minority from Spain myself. Laziness to work and sense of entitlement comes in all colors and nationalities. Thanks Andrew!

Cali valley in 3 tab is for lazy hacks. Weave or hand cut each shingle at an angle where it terminates.
No over hang on the roof! Roofs can't have to much over hang on a building. No over hangs is a bad feature.
