Your photoshops are insanely good and to the point, I really hope some of these companies take notes on proportioning and how big of a difference it makes on the figures.
I mean the toy is good but you kept saying it was terrible a little bit when I saw good reviews about but for me it’s good and looks like you had a great time with it to
I really enjoy the new hands that allow Rhino to grasp other figures by the waist or leg or head. The dynamic posing is super sweet- something that is impossible with all the BAFs that just have fists. You can pose him grabbing Spider-Man by the waist. The paint looks particularly lacking compared to every previous release, but for a $40 re-release of a previously $120 eBay baf, I'm happy.
I know we shouldn't have to as customers, but I do wish more reviewers would mention easy tips for fixing the figure yourself. I do kitbashing and light customizing, I've managed to make so many 6s into 8s or 9s with a little bit of work myself after seeing people talk about them. Thanks for the tip.
I loved this character in the 1999s Spider-man cartoon. I need to get him and Shocker for nostalgia’s sake. I actually like the stubby brick house look this figures has. I wish the articulation and sculpt of the body was better, but this is works for me.
I prefer the traditional look for rhino. Giving him rhino armor is like trying to modernize the tmnt, it might be a cool idea but it's never right. I prefer the select figure to this one just because of its presence and look. Great review man!
All in all, I appreciate them re-releasing figures that are going for high prices on the second market, and in a number of cases, making improvements. I'll probably pick this guy up on a sale. For some reason, I want to put one of those heads on one of the kingpin bucks... like he was told to show up at an event in dinner party attire.
I think they were going for the 1960's Rhino who was a bit chunky, but they should have used that artwork instead of the one they used, which represents more of the modern look. I bought him anyways, as I don't have a Rhino in my collection and I was looking at it as a 1960's Rhino.
To me Rhino falls into that category where if its in a comic I'm all for the traditional bodysuit, that's my favorite look, but if its in any other media that doesn't stick super close to the visual aesthetics of the comics (so games, films, certain cartoon shows) I think the armor works better. Same goes for a bunch of other Spider-Man rogues for me (Electro, the Vulture, Green Goblin etc.), they almost always need some sort of alternate design to work in other mediums, at the very least more visible tech than just skintight costumes.
Hasbro: Released half-assed reissue *Anthony's theme music drops* Hasbro: Why do I hear boss music? Pin comment bait aside, Question of the Day: All around I prefer the classic suit, but I don't hate the armored version. It does depend on design ultimately for the modern spin since sometimes these "realistic" versions of comic characters look a little overengineered in a way to distance itself from the campier version, which ironically makes it look cheesier than the original.
So glad I passed on the baf. I knew we'd get a better one down the line and this fits the bill. I always hated this body because it was so flat and square but honestly I think this is the best legends rhino we are going to get
When I saw images of this figure and people raving about the shading on it, I was also very confused, since it seems like it's done in reverse. If you were going to use that color scheme, wouldn't it make more sense for everything to be the darker color and then the areas that are shaded, to be air brushed with the light grey color? It's nice to see them trying, but I just don't understand the thought process here. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but are the shaded areas top coated so that a wash wouldn't really work, or would you be able to just do a wash over the whole figure then air brush the high spots with a lighter grey without removing the paint that's there now?
I so much appreciate the non-biased review style on this channel. Just saying at it is, giving compliments when deserved but also not afraid to speak up on lazy issues. Still the best review channel out there, in my opinion.
When I see this guy, I understand why the Marvel Select just won't drop the price, even being so old, he's still the best option. This is supposed to be newer but in articulation it's not miles away. Good review!
Select has much better proportions and paint app for Rhino's body. But I'mma go with Legends because of the improved articulation unlike select which has very limited one, like a statue. Cant even pose a charging rhino with select and legs can't bend as much as legends. Want my rhino to be playable. Legends has alt hands and alt head with improved head sculpt. No brainer options you got here 😁 If you want an almost like statue Rhino go for select, if playable and poseable one, go for legends.
On one hand, I want to agree that this is a valid look for Rhino since these proportions are at least in line with depictions like the Romitas' but on the other hand, Hasbro decided to slap the packaging with a Rhino with a completely different physique. Suppose this reuse is tolerable, but they really, really shouldn't have used that artwork if they didn't want to invoke unflattering comparisons.
I recently got the old toybiz fearsome foes one. That one looks great. This figure has a good face and head but those knees joints are hideous. Those head and face look superb. But still i am happy with the fearsome foes one😌
Traditional look for me but do dig the half mask and shoulder pads. Put this one next to baf one and the matte looks so much better than how glossy the baf is, open hands look good too.
I grew up with the Toy Biz Ultimate Rhino so to me this is a better, more modern version of that without the gaudy shoulder spikes and weird cybernetic looking wiring underneath the armor. But the armor overall is preferable for me. I don't buy Legends anymore because of the price but this is a perfect Rhino to me. Hasbro finally making good sculpts. Though if I copped, I'd give it a wash as well.
As a 2000’s kid I have a soft spot for the Ultimate Rhino design seeing as how it was featured on so many toys, video games and general Spider-Man merch of the time (and of course the Ultimate comics themselves which I was an avid reader of), and it’s just a great/fun design in general, Mark Bagley never disappoints lol. That being said I think way too many people are too hard on the classic look these days Ideal situation for this figure would be the paint job of the old one and the heads of the new one, so disappointing how so many Hasbro re-iterations of characters are a “one step forward, two steps back” kinda deal
I wonder what these heads look like on the original BAF, that one had a much better paint job. These new heads really are great, but ultimately I'm sticking with the Toybiz box set version.
Loved your video - a Rhino fan here - I have the DST MS original and I cannot find any reason why I would want to t replace that one with this product. The shading on this one is along the line of the terrible cell shading from the X-Men animation line. The blotches look like some sort of skin infection. I like the old school Rhino but would have loved it if they reproduced the image on the box. Those knees are just lazy especially because a good pose would look nice - but not with a knee hanging out. If someone didn't have any Rhino character, this one would be a good first purchase,.
Pretty undecided on how I want my Rhino to look. I know if they put out a version that looks how he appeared in the recent games I’d pick it up. He looks alright, the new heads and additional is what draws me to him most. I just built the other Rhino recently, I don’t hate the armored shoulders and the different mask.
Oh man, this takes me back! When I was a kid, Rhino was easily my favorite Spider-Man villain. So, of course, I had the "original" (early to mid '90s) Rhino figure xD Man, I really wish I'd saved some of those... And I actually like this figure. It looks so similar to the old [Toy Biz... I believe?] figurines. I mean, sure -- in retrospect, it's a bit ridiculous. Still, he looks enough like the comics version of him to appease my [usually absurdly high] standards =Þ
I have the Abomination baf which shares a lot of parts and problems with this figure. Stubby arms and legs horrible knee joints and small muscles: calves, biceps, forearms. I like the classic look but would enjoy a Sinister Syndicate armoured up version. From the time he ran with Beetle, Hydro Man, Speed Demon, and Boomerang. The Gamerverse Abomination has size, bulk and way better articulation. Someone at Hasbro clearly doesn't understand Highlights and shade.
@@AnthonysCustoms Thank you! I'll try that on one of them...But a video of something like that would also be really cool! the waist is why i did not consider this figure for my collection. they have a raging bone for obliques at the marvel legends hq. I follow the head sculptor on various platforms: Paul Harding, he is almost perfect.
No bro, I usually agree with you but the proportions on this Rhino are great. He doesn't need to look like the Tick. Paint job is terrible, knee joints too. Heads are great
Zup Anthony, thanks for the photoshop, it makes everything you saying so much easy to understand and appreciate, what’s up with those eyes on the sides, 7/10!!!! Way too generous, if you wouldn’t have shown the photoshop, I might agree but no, this figure’s legs and waist are awful, thanks for the video bro 😎 '
I prefer the original look for Rhino and I also prefer the Marvel Select version. That version has a better sculpt, but lacks in articulation compared to the Marvel Legends.
I honestly want to know why and who had the idea of putting shading in the high spots, even me who has done washes on figures a couple of times knows how shadows and highlights work
The colors should be reversed, a darker Rhino with a lighter colored shading. But great sculpt, great hands, great heads. I think it's better than the precious Marvel Legends and the Marvel Select.
I love the build of this body and how stompy and blocky it looks, it gives the figure so much more character. I'm always up for your photoshops but I often find myself thinking that if all the figures you photoshop in your reviews would look like how you do them, all the figures would look the same. Obviously I'm not talking about objective mistakes like the supper bubbly biceps and deltoids in the sunfire body, indeed I think you do an amazing job pointing out all the proportioning issues in these figures, because most reviewers don't. But I think sometimes your Photoshop change the character way too much sometimes, especially when it's not necessary needed like in this figure or in the armoured Spidey (I like his lanky look, and even not being too muscular it's still proportionate). Hope you don't take this comment as an offense because I'm a great supporter of your work and I just wanted to point up a thought I have :)
Yup, The only way to hide those stubby thighs is posing in certain angles and you nailed it on that. I HATE those thighs but I needed this figure to add to my Spiderman villains shelf. Hopefully a better one comes around someday. Closer to your photoshop version. Those thighs and his torso shape and swivel just frustrate me. We know they can do better.
I’d say either way if he’s a big man trapped in a suit he’s a fun angry character, though the classic is nicer in my opinion. Now if we’re talking normal sized man in a mecha, get that out of here don’t want to see it.
Personally, the armored version of Rhino is my preference. I’d love to see a figure based on either (or both) versions from the Ultimate Comics or the PlayStation game. I loved this character in the 1999s Spider-man cartoon. I need to get him and Shocker for nostalgia’s sake.

Mhm. Plus, this whole retro line is based loosely on the cartoon. Which matches the box art. Poor choice for the reused mold imo.
