If you're worried about the height, don't be. Shocker is listed as being a fairly average height guy, standing at 5'8 which makes him shorter than Spider-Man who is 5'10. He's never been that tall at all which I found cool since not all villains need to be tall to be threatening or pack a punch. His scale is completely fine
With this guy and the black suit Spidey you can recreate the famous "SHOCKEERRRRR" moment very well. I do think he'd look much better with black paint for the quilting pattern but i'm happy it's sculpted in. Should be easy enough to go in there with a panel lining marker and have it look perfect. Also wavy chips are far better
Cool figure, painfully obvious where the money goes in each wave. But if you’re not a completionist at least you have some good options to choose from. Also, keep the photoshops coming, always effective to illustrate your points about proportions and sculpt.
Q1: I would have preferred paint but in this instance, I don't mind as much. I think if Hasbro painted it there would have been heaps of QC issues since half the time Spidey's webbing is botched. Sculpting it was a better call since I'd rather take a Gundam marker and fill in the lines myself so I know it looks aces than getting just another Bucky Cap with dodgy paint. Q2: Wavy chip supremacy, bit more texture and crunch than a flat chip
Paint adds a lot to a figure. I animate with these figures so a lack of paint doesn't really bother me as much as if I collected them and had them displayed 24/7. Also... Wavy chips and burgundy color for Shocker.
having those sculpted-in lines painted and giving the whole figure a wash would elevate this figure so much also i’m definitely a wavy chips guy. feels like the crunch is better
Thanks for the review! This dude is still an easy find locally for me. Might have to add him to the collection. I will be doing a repaint however. Bubble affects?! 🤦🏿♂️ Also flat chips indeed, until flavor gets involved. Lays Wavy are the perfect wavy chip. However Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion HITS! We can’t tell these fans about how a figure from the same line but different company had more and cost less 20 years ago. They’ll defend these new ones forever.
I’ve loved the Shocker ever since I had to fight him in the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movie game. He had a cool power with his shock gauntlets, and his epic voice 😁. Also that game introduced me to the vulture who I love now too.
I can't remember the last time I saw you give a figure a 9/10 , especially for marvel legends! But im glad you remained objective and gave it that rating because personally I've been waiting on this caliber of shocker for a long time. The toybiz didn't do it for me because of the gimmick and the bucky cap mold one I overall didn't enjoy the look or paint job. Wasnt sure they'd ever release one with this classic look and a matte finish. I also love the new mold and when I saw the proportions I was like Anthony is gonna like this so much more lol. We talked on ig about this figure and you said you were dropping it soon, I appreciate the review! As far as chips I feel I eat flat way more but I probably just haven't found a good wavy one yet🤷🏽♂️ Just picked this guy up last week too and he looks awesome!
I love that you gave this guy so much love. I loved the old Toybiz Animated series one too. So playable! This one is brilliant. After adding the lines with a Gundam marker I am even more in love with him. I am always looking for my mind's eye version of shockwaves, but of all the figures and Mezco effects I have yet to find anything. And so the hunt continues...
Transitioning from Toy Biz to Hasbro, the difference in paint is shocking. While sculpting and articulation has improved, the paint scale back really knocks the quality down. And when they do paint, it's a crap shoot
The lines definitely needs to be painted. Literally, the first thing I said before I even took him out the package, "The lines are missing." In regards the second question, the answer requires another question am I eating the chips with dip. If I am the wavy all the way, that thickness helps, If not, plain. And brown is preferred for me
I think the new unique body cuts a great silhouette and I like the sculpted details, those are all a step above a lot of the other Spider-Man villains we've got in recent years, but the paint bugs me a lot. To me it's a figure of two extremes, with the new sculpt being so good that the lackluster paint is a lot more distracting. The different sheens between the plastics and the fuzziness to the brown in parts looks really cheap to me, if it weren't for that I don't know if the lines not being painted would bother me, in the initial promo images it didn't.
Crinkle cut all the way, those pockets of flavour 🤤 Honesty this one threw me. I think along with Hammerhead he’s the best in the wave but I can see the argument that the quilted parts shouldn’t be painted as you rightly said. That said, I did paint mine because it just doesn’t look right.
Depends on the flavor, but I tend to lean more towards flat. As for the figure I'm fine without the lines because they are sculpted in so if you want to line it yourself it's not as hard.
This is a pretty damn alright sculpt. My only complaint is maybe the height and the way that belt points up. The paint really hurts me. I love the sculpted lines, but for some reason a lot of the time, Hasbro goes either paint or sculpted lines, can't have both. This figure _needed_ the paint in the lines.
I would rank the quality of a Shocker figure’s quilt pattern as such: Best: Sculpted lines painted in Medium: Sculpted lines w/no paint Lame: Painted lines only Funny thing is I would probably swap mid and worst for Spider-Man’s webs
I like crunching the flat chip against the roof of my mouth which doesn’t work as well with the wavy. If I want a thick chip I tend to go for tortilla. I think some flavors only come in wavy…Lays cheddar and sour cream are only available as a wavy chip, I believe. They are probably the best cheesy potato chip at the market. Thanks for the excellent review Anthony❣️💯💗
One of my favourite Spidey villains, though I have a soft spot for all his early adversaries. I really like the sculpt and proportions. Although I would say the head looks a tad small, and I agree Hasbro need some new power effect pieces. I gave mine an orangey brown wash over the yellow quilted sections. Really makes him zing. I think black lines would be too harsh. Shockwave would be a far more apt name. Maybe he went with shocker as he likes to surprise his foes. 😁 Re: the price of these figs. Yes I agree they're way too high. I tend to only buy when they're reduced to what I'm happy to pay, either online or in store.
I filled in the lines on mine with a darker mustard yellow and I think it looks much better than black lines would. Black lines would just bring too much attention to it and look goofy.
I wouldn't mind some paint work on the quilt pattern but I'm staunchly against using black, needs to be a shade of brown that looks like natural shadows on the yellow
9/10?! For a marvel legends figure?Wow, from you reviewing most of the figures from the wave I'm more interested in Shocker because of this review! Recently I got Ben Riley from the wave, which you said was a 5/10, I still very much enjoyed posing him around. So, I wanna put Shocker on the action figures I want list, simply because the lack of black paint is something I can easily fix with my painting skills. Its not really that big of a problem for me lol. Great review as always and I prefer the brown color for Shocker, I'm more used to it 👍
Great video as always dear antony ...I really wanted to see this video and your review...Fantastic figure according to my knowledge so far it is among the 10 best figures of this year
Wild. His official stats are 5'9, 175lbs. Til. I'm mixed on the lines. I've seen some people draw them in and they can be a little too much. Maybe black lining is too much and a lighter brown would work. If the bubbles were blue I'd be fine but the orange doesn't fit for me.
Now we need a black suit Spider-Man with sound effects to recreate the scene where Spider-Man screams at Shocker while Shocker is so scared for his life that he smashes through a solid wood door
glad I got this one initially the lack of paint threw me but it has a lot of unique parts and molded details that can't be reused so easy, for the price however paint just a wash and something other than the kirby effects like original character specific effects would be nice
Orange bubbles???? I want that purple stuff!! Haha, I v been thinking of trying to cut of the bubbles so its more of a spiral type effect. If it messes it up it wont matter since we have so many. Shocker is my favourite villain alongside Venom . Brown is my favourite but burgundy is fine too. This is my favourite marvel legend of late.
Q of the Day: The quilted pattern needs paint, I prefer wavy chips, and I prefer brown to burgundy. Shocker was another pass for me. I can’t get past the “Party Like It’s 1999” paint job long enough to appreciate the new sculpt. In a perfect world, we would get more with a price hike. In the real world, we would get the same with a price hike. In the Hasbro world, we get less with a price hike.
I prefer it to be painted, but in the case of a figure like this I'd get it with the intent on doing a black wash, or maybe even brown, since the rest of the figure is pretty clean. It honestly bothers me far more when the joints aren't the same color as the rest of the body. my taste in chips change with my mood, rn I'm feelin classic lays, so kinda wavy/kinda not.
I don’t mind the lack of paint on his pattern, but if they took the time to give his eyes a black outlining, why not his quilts. I’m probably just being cynical, but it would irk the hell out of me if they messed up painting his lines. Burgundy all day, burgundy with red stripes (on his arms) and the quilts painted in.. Kid me would’ve flipped his shit over this Shocker figure put out today. Wavy chips, man. Still one of my favorite recent releases, definitely love Shocker as well.
I would've preferred for those lines to be painted. I've thought about doing so myself (which we shouldn't have to btw), but I'm afraid I might ruin it. I know a lot of people say doing it with a Gundam pen is not hard, but I was thinking about applying a wash with some brown paint. Do you guys think that would make the pattern stand out?
I can excuse the lack of line work since, the way I see it, I’d rather just apply it myself and do it right than have them mess it up. At this price should they paint it more? Yes. Is it excusable for them to screw it up? No. But as it stands, I’d prefer fixing it myself. The bubbles are crap but whatever, again, to be expected unfortunately. My BIG critique is the color difference in the elbows and knees. I’d rather them give the figures peg holes in limbs to make sure the plastic is uniform between the limbs and joints. That paler hard plastic in the knees and elbows just pisses me off. Otherwise, really happy with this guy overall, especially since he has the brown. I only wish they gave him a Thunderbolts running change belt since I prefer that over his standard belt
I would prefer they paint the lines. It bothers me when they neglect to paint things like I that. Spidey especially. That said I want it to be painted well too. Which may be asking too much when it comes to this line. 🤷🏻♂️😅
Personally I dont mind the lines not being painted, I do prefer the Brown they use here as well, this might be the only Retro Packaged figure I'm gonna buy, especially because it's constantly on sale, nobody seems to want this guy lol
He's supposed to be 5 9...so he's probably the right size. Spiderman is generally too tall even in the legends 1/10th scale or whatever they've become at this point
Zup Anthony, hahahaha! Useless nature, I like this figure, but let put some paint on the panel lines, flat chip bro of course, me love the photoshop, to be honest I won’t be getting this figure tho, thanks for the video bro 😎
Paint would be cool, but there’s something weirdly aesthetically pleasing to me about this particular figure not being painted which, for example, on Spider-man himself would be unacceptable. Flat chips ALL DAY! Brown.
It is a great figure, definitely overpriced not as nice as the one you played with. I have seen some use a sharpie to paint in the black lines. Looking forward to your review of Vulcan on the buck.
Considering you've been providing B&A photoshops practically every week now (which is highly appreciated), have you considered sharing those images to Reddit or other social media sites? I still firmly believe that consumers are partly to blame for why problematic sculpts continue to get made, so these photos could go a long way to convincing people that things could and should be better. Somebody even made a meme about you in r/MarvelLegends today and the comments show that a fair number of users already agree with your critiques.
i do use reddit at all. it's almost as bad as twitter...which i also really dont use. im all for people sharing the photoshopped images but i dont have the time or energy to deal with more social media. what was the meme?
@@AnthonysCustoms The meme is an image macro with these exact words: "AnthonyCustoms about to go full hater mode when a male figure isn't shaped like a dorito (it's anatomically inaccurate)." I'd link it here for convenience but RUclips would just automatically tag my comment as spam. The post got activity within the last day though so it should still be visible in the upper part of the subreddit's feed.

The “best of the wave”. And yet I’ve seen it as a major pegwarmer in my stores because only us true Spider-Man fans know how great Shocker really is!

Shocker is actually only 5 foot 8 so he is 2 and a half inches shorter than Peter Parker. So it scales very well.
Wavy chips are for dipping. It has better structural integrity.

Great video AC - #1 - no painted lines - especially from the ML brand. But I cannot believe they are charging that much for this.
The Shocker...not to be confused with the rocker or the show stopper!

I don't think Shocker is supposed to be that huge compared to Spider-Man. He's just a regular guy and a b-tier villain. Almost basically just a thug.
He is 5'9"
I'm fine without the paint. It looks good for me. Wavy everytime
