I love how genuine you are. showing us your reaction to his eyes. Saying you wish you'd did things different. It's really cool because though its not how you hoped it would come out, the finished product is still amazing. I love seeing your "mistakes." When youre completely honest it tells me that artists are not perfect. And we all critic our work. You know i get so hung up on my sculpts being "perfect" for me that i either give up because Its not looking the way i wanted or i spend way too much time on perfecting small details that somebody probably wouldn't even notice, so i never finish because its not even worth my time anymore. I also love that you dont go back and repaint. I do that a lot and then the paint thickens and ive ruined my sculpt. Ive been inspired by you and i hope that i will create more this year.

I think the reason his eyes looks so "wild" is because we don't typically see all of the sclera around the iris, it's like the tops of the iris are a little hidden beneath the eyelids and the bottom of the iris is just barely visible before disappearing beneath the lower lid. I think if you would have done something like this he might have looked less startling. But even with the crazy eyes he looks absolutely phenomenal. What a beautoful work of art.

at like 13:25 when you’re using the red to make him more lifelike you could try using a chip brush/toothbrush and spattering the paint on the surface by running your finger over the bristles and pointing the spray at the area you want it to hit. I use it a lot for sfx prosthetics and it’s super handy for building up thin layers! Amazing job as always! 💖

I've always had a hobby, whatever it may be, but for awhile now I've wanted to start sculpting. This Christmas my brother bought me a polymer color clay set that I've already started using and making, for a beginner, decent and promising clay figurines (?). You, however, have inspired me to really do what I want in the clay world and although I'll continue to make little knick knacks with my colored set, I've officially ordered everything needed to produce real sculptures, like you, tonight! I'm super excited and can't wait! Although I've watched all your videos and have been subscribed since you had 2 videos, yes 2 lol, I now have a reason to watch the only one I've missed - tips for beginners! woot woot

  • @Rac2611

This was super awesome! I actually like the eyes because they look evil and inhuman. The skin details were so creepily accurate; it was fascinating.
I loved when you said giving him large eye bags like he hasn't slept in years like you. I felt that in my soul. It is 3:30 am as I'm watching videos. I slept for 12~ hours after being awake for 35~ hours. The sleep deprivation is real in us.
This was really awesome! I'd love to see more busts. I'd also like to see busts of female characters or even more inhuman characters like aliens or even something like The Predator. These are so fun to watch.

  • @RD9_Designs

I think he turned out just AWESOME! You pulled every trick out of the hat for this guy! Super detailed, and I think his skin looks ultra realistic! So with sculpting busts, you'll have to come up with new ways to add some motion and movement, and other dynamics that make them come to life, rather than just being static.
I was going to suggest that with your all clay sculpts, that you use the hair, beards and clothes to do that, like having them blowing in the wind, or standing out like they've been spinning in circles.
Once again, thanks Anthony, you rock!
Ps, you gotta take care of yourself! In too many vids, you look tired, run down, pale, and like you just don't feel well. Get on top of that, dude! If it's all lack of sleep, RUclips has some awesome ideas for you, from suggestions for better sleep, to "delta wave" inducing music... and you could also try 5mgs of melatonin at bedtime... but, if you're anything like my son, you may have a case of 'just one more', in which case, nothing can help you but *you*.

On a side note, I totally agree on your afterthought about his hair probably looking better if it were all grey with a couple of white streaks! But the bright green eyes don't bother me so much, especially since he ended up with a lot of black hair just starting to turn gray despite his old age, he requires a pop of color in the eyes, it makes him lively!

Your reaction was priceless 😂😂 the way to fix that would be to enlarge his irises, then his pupils. I've made the same mistake on my sculptures and I couldn't figure out what it was, then I saw what I was doing differently in my portrait paintings: if you look at a photo of a person, or even in the mirror, you will notice that the entire outer edge of the iris is not visible unless the eye is intentionally opens wide. If the eye is opened to the normal degree, a small portion of iris is hidden under the upper lid, lower lid, or both depending on the eye shape. So, this hyper realistic sculpture would be perfected if you enlarged the iris, hiding part of it under an eyelid, then you have space to make the pupil bigger. Keep that color though! It's awesome!!! 👌👌👌👌

@@aceofclay thank you, but seriously, most people don't realize how demanding it is to CONSTANTLY come up with new stuff under a deadline. I used to make and sell my art but it got to the point where I got an art block n said the heck with it and only do it as I deem worthy. Which is usually either being inspired or commission lol I have a lot of respect for you and other artists who can continuously create new and exciting art for us.. it's not always easy.. and sometimes you end up hating your work but have to keep a straight face and listen to the praises lol meanwhile you're thinking about all the tiny flaws you hope no one notices

(Just a tip if you wanted to do something to help the eyes without re-doing the whole thing) You can always try to add a small shadow right under the top lid on the white of the eye and that might help make it look more realistic and add more depth!!

For a more realistic salt and pepper hair color, you could try blending the two you used in this one before gluing them to the model, then just adjust the blend to create lighter spots such as at the temples, eyebrows, and the sides of the beard where greying happens faster :)

I've seen you use different methods for sculpting a face/head, you should make a video dedicated to sculpting faces with each different type of approach. The one thing I did notice is you always start with the socket of the eyes. I am learning this craft and would greatly appreciate any advice. Also, what would you suggest for those like me just starting out? Any other youtubers, books, etc?
