I was surprised at 7:43 when you turned the head at how recognizable it was. I also like your “adding on” of details; eyebrow ridges, mustache, ears, cloth folds, etc. I was always trying to carve details rather than adding them. Never worked well for facial features.

I love your Edgar Allan Poe. It was so interesting that your chose to sculpt a real person, but you stylized the figure to make it truly a signature Ace of Clay piece of art. His suit is so elegant and I love the tutorial of which facial features you selected to reflect what Poe actually looked like to make him recognizable as Poe. Very enjoyable video. Thank you.

Your videos are very helpful in learning to sculpt polymer clay. Have you thought about putting together a how to series which would use clips from your library? An armature video, bulking out and blocking in video, adding on details vs carving out, painting, baking, etc.

Poe was an excellent idea! I’m kind of fascinated by your approach to his hair 🤔 There are a few other caricatures you could consider, like Vincent Price, Tim Burton, Stephen King, Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie off the top of my head.
A nice representation of Poe. As you were doing him, I started thinking, there are several people, namely actors, that you should sculpt. Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, actors like that, who helped shape the dark side of the old scary movies. Just a thought!
You know what might be a good idea is to occasionally do a historical figure in a stylized way just like you did here with Edgar Allan poe. On that note I wouldn't mind seeing my favorite President Ted Theodore Roosevelt. I think if you depict him in the same fashion as Night at the Museum you might have fun with the sculpt.
I don't mean to compare art but the way you designed Edgar's caricature makes me think about the Corpse Bride. I could definitely see him standing next to Victor or Emily.

Love this sculpt! The suit details really pop, even though it’s all painted black. I think Mark Twain (in white) would make a lovely counterpoint. 🙂
