"Believer" - Adrienne Cowan (Myrath cover) || Practice Cam: Patron's Challenge

- If you follow me on Instagram, you're probably familiar with my love for making Practice Cams. They are little short videos where I practice singing a section of something kind of difficult for me, and talk about the challenges and techniques in the caption.
Recently, a patron challenged me to some Myrath, referencing their melodic ornaments/melismas as a bit difficult. I agree! I found out I'd been just kind of "floating" around the notes sloppily... So the first step was actually learning the notes, to define them better and to be able to relax out of the tension that came from trying to sound good to compensate for not knowing the notes :'D Then came checking the live version for any of Zaher's cool variations, and choosing lead lines where the vocal parts overlap. Since the song is a bit low for my voice, I also went through and tried to put some grit in key places to make it sound a little more badass.
When even all of that didn't feel like enough, I listened closely to Zaher's vocal arrangement on record, and layered my backing vocals as close to his as I could. That made a huge difference, and it turned out I didn't need to work as hard to "sound cool" as I did... Anyway, long story short, I got carried away, here's the full vocal practice cam/VERY casual cover :'D
Backing track is the Japanese bonus track "Believer" from "Legacy" by Myrath. Vocal processing by Jack Kosto.
Regarding vocal processing, Jack said he used, "Lots of compression/limiting, a touch of EQ, and a little bit of my "standard" set of verbs and delays".

You need to post all your "casual" stuff like this (as you say lol, casual for you but a gem for us!) so satisfying for the eyes and ears. Happy you mentionned Roy Khan in who you were looking up when younger, he's my favorite singer. You are up there also with all thoses names now, a big inspiration so much taste passion and authenticity, keep it up :)

I was watching an Avantasia live and I was like: "she looks like that singer that covered the serpentine offering!" Then I went to check and you really are touring with Avantasia! Congratulations, I hope that everything is going well and I know that you guys will do a magnific job with the new album, Tobi has a great taste in music
She was the singer of Sascha Paeth's super group, Master of Ceremonies, too. So Im guessing thats how she worked with Avantasia and vice versa
