I thought that the music video was incredibly autotuned... Guess she just has a really good voice.
She doesn't need autotune. Listen to more of her live performances and you'll see why.

I can definitely hear auto tune in most music, this one is no exception. But her live performance shows that auto tune, is not what people think it is. Auto tune is to perfect voices and make them 'studio album-ready', it's not to help voices that aren't good in the first place. That's the stereotype about auto tune.

Yeah exactly... she doesn't use autotune. Autotune is so the singer doesn't have flat or sharp notes or sound off key or anything, which some singers do need... Alessia here, has a ton of sharp and flat notes which is just a natural thing and they're barely noticeable, and they only occur sometimes... Believe me, no autotune here... she's just a real singer is all.

Not really. Her pitch ain’t that good, she just has an interesting and unique voice, which is great for recorded songs and cause most people can’t hear or don’t care about perfect pitch, but for live performances in a song contest with vocal coaches judging, she’s not good enough, and she’s struggling with the high notes, especially the last long note, she had to break it in half, that’s not very professional, not knowing your range, when your voice is at it ‘s worst, or at least no being able to compensate for it without people noticing.
Alessia is breathless in a lot of areas throughout the song, which is a pity bcuz she has such a unique voice. Auli'i Cravahlo seems 2 have this problem singing live 2
She has improved a lot actually. Her "Scars to Your Beautiful" performance was even more breathless LOL
It's not an easy song mate - try it - especially at this tempo while adding lots of runs - eitherway is a quality performance - better to be breathless and sound awesome - than to not be breathless but sound like crap (which lots of singers are part of that group) heck some can't even perform at all.

This is not a hateful comment its just facts to straighten it out that She never wrote the original the guy that wrote the song was apart of the making of Moana
Lin Manuel Miranda, he is an actor and composer and composed all the songs on the soundtrack for Moana he wrote and produced "How Far I'll Go" in particular which he also said in a behind the scenes for the film as soon as he heard Auli'i's take on it, he was all in for Auli'i to sing and be the voice of Moana as she is.
Alessia's cover is just that, a cover
its like how they had Demi lovato do a cover of Let it go, but it wasn't her song someone else wrote it.
Just clarifying some things. It's not a cover, just another version... like "You're Welcome". There is "The Rock" version and a more professional studio version. Both songs, the movie version and studio are in the movie and soundtrack. P.S. Alessia's version is playing while the credits are rolling.

It's amazing how she makes shifting her octaves like a mere child's play.
Not perfect imo (short breath in some keys due to that same technique she does with her octaves but that's a double edge sword) but the performance overall hella' impressive nonetheless...
The first 5-8sec of the performance had me fooled that it was mimed/lip synced. That's how convincing it was until she started playing with the tempo and such.

Ah yes, I did hope when I clicked on this video that I would behold the famous singer of Alissa Cara since I am one of her biggest fans, however when this video started it had immediately occurred to me that this was a fake doppelgänger of Alissa Cara who is trying to be her. I was mad at first but then I realised that these clones of Alissa are so famous that their species of Cara is going extinct; on the radio today I heard that Alicia Cara was assassinated in a shopping mall's elevator listening to this exact song. So yes, it may look like her but it is actually just a Cara clone trying to blend in hoping not to be murdered next, do not blow her cover otherwise you will be responsible for this poor naive girl's life
