    I say all this before watching:
    1) A wide variety of lines that can be utilized in varying scenarios at multiple areas of the track
    2) Curves that allow cars to "get wiggly" at speed when racing
    3) Turn 1 chaos
    4) Elevation/grade change
    5) Unique corners that present a challenge drivers won't see on most tracks (think the Zandvoort banking or cota t1)
    Some less controllable variables:
    6) Proximity to unpredictable or changeable weather conditions
    7) Car size. Bigger reduce the amount of turns that can be interesting
    8) Pirelli's not being ass
    9) Championship stakes. Part of the Interlagos magic is that it historically has been a key WDC and WCC race where people make or break a season. A return of the older points scoring format would aid this, as every race becomes important.

      Point 9 is key. Abu Dhabi has had a few good races, but they've always been when the championship has gone down to the wire. If the WDC is already decided, AD is the dullest race.

      @@matttrevers2552 Ideally Abu Dhabi is not one of the final 2 races. Using this years calendar, I would've preferred this order (spaces are off weeks):

      Saudi Arabia 3/24
      Qatar 3/31

    I finally went to an F1 race last year when I went to Monza. Now it probably helps that I’m a Ferrari fan, but it was the coolest experience of my life. The actual experience of watching the race isn’t as good as on TV, but the atmosphere is completely unbeatable. You gotta go to one at some point as a fan, it’s worth it.

    I think you've done a great job with this video, but perhaps when looking at those three main actors like Interlagos, Spa and Monza, also mentioning Silverstone, maybe Suzuka would be very good to include in this as well. The racing in itself does suffer a bit due to the many sweeping bends, but I guess that is a whole category in itself. Looking at tracks that basically get all the satisfaction (viewer and driver alike) on Saturdays could be another one to look at. Being a Seb fan all the time I watched F1, I have always seen Suzuka as my one favourite track in F1!

    • @jakemorganGP
      @jakemorganGP  7 месяцев назад +2

      Suzuka is fantastic and is definitely a great track, but I focused on what was giving fans the highest satisfaction based on average ratings and then looming at the track features at those races to make the video.
      But this is why I said that tracks like Monaco still have their place - they make Saturday the importance rather than Sunday. So yeah defo room for other track characteristics and features to make a well-rounded calendar

I’ve seen and been told that it really is like a festival with a race going on along side it. Although we all go to watch the racing, it gets boring if that’s the only thing that you can do and there is to see. Adding more festival like attractions and other aspects anyone can interact with off track elevates a GP experience so much

    I think the best way to evaluate the potential of a track is to see how good are the esport races since all the cars are equal and there is little to none dirty air.

    • @jakemorganGP
      @jakemorganGP  7 месяцев назад

      That is a great point. But unfortunately it wouldn’t be the reality for the real F1 championship - which is what this video is about. WEC for example doesn’t have anywhere near the issues with overtaking compared to F1 - and because of that the tracks that would produce the best racing in WEC would be different. These features are what F1 needs, not necessarily all racing series

    I'd argue we also need some better on track cameras. In addition to the racing not being close, the cars look really slow on screen sometimes, especially when they going through shots of the same corners and straights each lap. They need to mix up the live editing more. More of the trackside cameras on the ground, and more onboard camera shots. The majority of F1 viewership is at home so it should look more exciting for the viewers who can't make it all the way out to a gp

    • @jakemorganGP
      @jakemorganGP  7 месяцев назад +1

      They look slow cos they are slow lmao. They are so heavy and cumbersome in the medium and slow speed corners now. The cameras are doing their best with all the zoom trickery etc but even they cant hide how slow they were going through sector 1.

      I think a series isn’t a world championship if it isn’t racing on every continent (apart from the obvious i.e. Antarctica). We desperately need a race in Africa and India. Hopefully we can get Kyalami and Buddh back on the calendar soon instead of tracks like Miami

  • @leftvassis
    @leftvassis 22 дня назад

    You only need a couple things for a good track:
    width, big braking zone which is followed by a sufficiently large straight, some form of slow-medium speed double apex, fast corners leading into a braking zone or straight(could be braking while turning such as bahrain or the suzuka s's) and more so of late less high speed and downforce corners which slows the car behind down due to dirty air. One is good, such as spa which you have to get dead right to be flat out and requires high downforce, but alot of them, such as in qatar means no overtakes. Finally banking if you wish, such as in zandvoort where you have to break deep into the banking and accelerate onto the straight, always good for overtaking inside or making the switch on the straight. Mix any 3 features and you have a great track.

    To me even if the race is almost always boring as hell, there are two things that is entirely part of the Monaco Grand Prix that shouldn't be overlook : quali, and strategy.
    Watching quali in Monaco with every car scratching the edges and trying to gain half a tenth to each other is something incredible. And then on race day, the strategies used to optimise pace and keep the position is always what guides a loss or a win. Monaco is a great grand prix if you don't look at overtakes as much as the whole weekend strategies

    Silverstone is IMO the greatest. The Maggots-Becketts complex are the only real part of the circuit where there's only one line, but they're such spectacular corners that it doesn't really matter that much. Cars can take different lines and race side by side through pretty much every other corner, and it's common for an overtake to be setup half a lap in advance of where it's completed.
    Interlagos is a close second. Spa and Monza are beautiful and iconic circuits, but they actually produce a lot of dull races.
    COTA does have a habit of producing good races, but the fact that it is a bit of a copy/paste job just takes something away from it for me.
    Honourable mentions: Bahrain is an excellent circuit. Turkey needs to be brought back to the calendar.

  • @jHftw
    @jHftw 7 месяцев назад +1

    100% agree with everything. I hope F1 tries to go back to more circuits instead of street tracks. Of course there's action on most street tracks (Vegas was great) but it doesn't feel like true F1. There isn't much that beats F1 at silverstone or Spa, especially with the size and weight of the current gen we need to stick to tracks that actually fit the car.

  • @nicholashe1198

    Nice video. A large part of whether or not a track is good in F1 is… the F1 cars themselves. Other racing series have proved that tracks can be great, but terrible for F1 because of the current wide, DRS-reliant, and dirty air cars.

    Still the cars are a big part for why racing in many tracks of the calendar look bad im not talking about performancewise its about being raceable which the new cars are not because they are bigger and heavier then ever, making the defense easier and the racecraft of driver less important. They should make them nimble and small which helps racing at everything and then once you have good foundations with the car then think about circuits and everything else.
