The reason it was not a Ford, is because the guy who helped had a Chevrolet. If he had a Ford, he would still have helped him. As the top comment says, it is not about what truck you have, it is about being able to use it, and help other people if they are stuck. Plus when it comes down to it, it is the tires that matters.
For the guy talking about the Hummer H1 All Hummers are made by GM so they are basically Chevys. And you cant do shit with a hummer H1 if you get more than a mile away from any gas station.
Very tricky pulling, specially with the traffic, we've had to pull out many trucks with our avalanche and it doesn't suprise me that its a good truck for doing so.
I agree.Tonight i was driving home from work and a guy flagged me down.He said he ran out of gas and when he pulled over he slid off the road. so i told him to hop in and we went down the road to the gas station,i bought him 5 gallons of gas then headed back. When we got there i got the gas in his chevy and pulled him out. Now when it was all said and done he shook my hand and said thank you. Now i could have said that's a chevy for ya but i didnt because i know all American trucks are damn good.
Dade Dooley Respectable. I'm a Bowtie guy myself but Ford and Chevy especially make great trucks. Dodge would too if they could make quality components to compliment their huge motors lol. At the end of the day they're all great vehicles and it usually depends on what you grew up with.
I own this pickup truck and I am a truck driver. The Avalanche was basically giving it a tug. The semi truck was doing 99% of the work. The best way to clear that is to carry bricks with you and run them over. A lot easier and safer than the tug of war test. cool video.
Bricks work great, the are cheap and easy to use. Chain is less efficient, expensive and a pain in the ass to put away. When I was broke, and the transfer case was stuck in 2X on my old Dodge, I used a 2x10 with shingles nailed to it. Kept in in the box through the winter. If get stuck in shit a cavalier could make it through with that pos, but my 'snow board' always got me through.
I am no fan of Detroits, but man do they sound good when you let the clutch out. The sound of the air leaving the pipe I guess it is. Idk it sounds amazing
good vid but if it gets stuck in a parking lot during the snow storm wouldnt it be a bad idea to let it go out on the highway while still in a snow storm like the other guys said +1 for chevy
Too funny. When the rig backs up, it pulls the avalanch with it even though its wheels are going foward. Also, if they syncronized better, they would have been done sooner.
2.7 ton 1500 5.3L truck pulling a semi of course it wont have as much traction or weight as that F-250 or 350 in that video, also its pulling it sideways not straight and is pulling on a spot that hasent been driven on either. So keep on saying stuff about that ford how impressive it was but just wait until theres a video of an even heavier stronger 4 ton 8.1L in the future doing this then we will just sit back and watch you delete your comments acting like you never said a word.
kinetic tow rope equal to the lighter truck's weight then bump him out 2nd low. proper rubber helps. more size helps. Knowing how to use what u Most important...
um i just have 2 things i wanted to point out after seeing this video 1 y is the semi not using chains...(=_=) 2 you should add more weight to the back tires so you dont have to much spin.
chains do the wiping effect too, i speak from experience. i had about 100 feet of chain break at the very end and it did the wipe and went right up my truck breaking out the windsheild and grill. straps are alot better and safer
Nice. That would have made a difference. I should have been more specific, sorry, I was referring to the rig. Towards the end when you could see it's driving wheels it looked like only the front pair were driving, as if the power divider to the back axles was not locked (or was not lockable).
Why didn't the guy in the rig engage the power divider and diff locks? He was only spinning one wheel a side. Every ten wheel truck I have ever seen has the diff lock to send power to all the rear wheels... It helps quite a bit....
Did that thing have a locking power divider? It didn't look like the back bogie was doing any driving. Cross axle locks either??? It may not have made much difference, but then again...
@pelkman i tested both fords limited slip against a chevy posi. i have to have my tires spining like hell just to move the other side. i don't consider them the same unless proven other wise. i end up leaving my ford at home on muddy days. their is a difference on the performance side.,
@USGiorgi - mexican trucks? only gm truck built south of the border is the crewcab half ton, which is overflow from the indiana plant. not to mention the plants in flint, michigan. so which mexican trucks are you referring to?
Where are the chains on the semi? Having chains would have prevented that I know. Last winter my dad got his Kenworth stuck in slightly deeper snow than that,he backed up a wee bit,put the chains on,flipped the switch to lock the diffs and off we went..no need for any pickup to "rescue" us or a loader to get us unstuck.
I would have given up a long time ago. I've tried this with a mitsubishi pajero and its not easey, snow in front of the semi tires is really hard to pull through. The combined stoppingpower is easily greater that the friction any truck will have in snow trying to pull the semi. At least I would have dug out some snow to get the semi roling. Good job this vid though.
they dont call it a 1/2 ton cause of the vehicle weight, its called that cause it can tow a half a ton (1000 lbs)...one ton trucks can tow up to 2000 lbs.
I don't think that vehicles are known as half-tons or one-tons as to the limit of what they can tow. Half-otns can tow far more than 1,000 lbs, and let's not get started on one-tons. My Chevy Impala tows over 3,000 lbs, but that doesn't make my Impala a one-and-a-half-ton.
@ c8muells It really depends on a lot of factors: chasis type, drivetrain, engine, ride height, power, ground (dirt or asphalt), and most importantly, the driver's knowledge of keeping the tires stuck to the ground without slipping. 4x4 is the biggest advantage along with having the biggest chasis and enough power to move another vehicle while inhibiting tire slip. Once you slip, it's all over. But to me, truck pulls are stupid. They don't prove strength, quality, durability, or reliability.
Now after pulling out the semi truck.the chevy truck will probably have a bad transmission or the transmission will fail because 1/2 ton trucks are not made to pull semi trucks out of the snow.
LOL wtf is the semi driver doing?? SPINNING YOUR TIRES IN THE SNOW DOES ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD! lol it just turns it into ice. damn..... He figured it out at the end. Back up and try to get a little further.
And the only dumbass to care is you
so i put my prius on ko2s and expect it to pull a semi in the snow
LOL
Another great video of a 1/2 ton pickup doing the "big boy's" work. Applause to the video!
For the guy talking about the Hummer H1
All Hummers are made by GM so they are basically Chevys. And you cant do shit with a hummer H1 if you get more than a mile away from any gas station.
Aye try hitting the curb fast without flipping over
Very tricky pulling, specially with the traffic, we've had to pull out many trucks with our avalanche and it doesn't suprise me that its a good truck for doing so.

lol carry bricks with you, you cant be serious if your going to carry something carry chains, or a snatch strap/kinetic rope.
Bricks work great, the are cheap and easy to use. Chain is less efficient, expensive and a pain in the ass to put away.

Salute to avalanches...I have done this before ❄️❄️❄️👍🏾
Actually, the 6 liter IS offered. It's in the LTZ model only. Also, in Canada, the 6.2 liter is offered.
8.1 available on multiple US trims.
I own 2004 Chevy Ava 5.3 L RWD. Love it!
like a rock.
it don't go anywhere
all in all, that is pretty impressive.
I am no fan of Detroits, but man do they sound good when you let the clutch out. The sound of the air leaving the pipe I guess it is. Idk it sounds amazing
with a tow strap you can leave a bit of slack then jerk it which stretches the strap, then "pops" out the stuck vehicle
good vid but if it gets stuck in a parking lot during the snow storm wouldnt it be a bad idea to let it go out on the highway while still in a snow storm like the other guys said +1 for chevy
I like how this was made in Detroit doe
i hope the semi driver paid for ur new tires :O.
that chevy will never be the same....
Can't beat that Chevy power 💪
Chain is good, but the metal can get weak if it gets really cold, thats why they say you should use a rope or a strap. Still a good vid. +1 for chevy
Too funny. When the rig backs up, it pulls the avalanch with it even though its wheels are going foward. Also, if they syncronized better, they would have been done sooner.
this, THIS, is why i love chevy
looks like a penske leased freightliner. good thing u had the p/u truck to help u or u woulda been sitting there all day waiting for sos
Sometimes that's all they need - just that little bit extra tractive power to get things moving.
Nice job.
a little ford escape pulled out an 18 wheeler in the winter on ice. FORD POWER
2.7 ton 1500 5.3L truck pulling a semi of course it wont have as much traction or weight as that F-250 or 350 in that video, also its pulling it sideways not straight and is pulling on a spot that hasent been driven on either. thats why ii love these trucks..!!!
nice!!
I own a expedition. but i only wish i could afford an avalanche
kinetic tow rope equal to the lighter truck's weight then bump him out 2nd low. proper rubber helps. more size helps. Knowing how to use what u Most important...

@siqbrah i agree he didn't have his truck in 8 wheel drive, he didn't lock in both his differencials.
That tractor really needs a locking tandem axle.
and this is why i have a chevy
The damn tractor didn't even have the 2nd axle locked in !
wow bet its a good buy man. except my expedition was half of that. 4,500. but i'm saving! lol
Nice. That would have made a difference.
I should have been more specific, sorry, I was referring to the rig. Towards the end when you could see it's driving wheels it looked like only the front pair were driving, as if the power divider to the back axles was not locked (or was not lockable).
^^^ Just like this guy who would drive by and not give a shit, but would be the first one to cry when he gets his SUV stuck.
Why didn't the guy in the rig engage the power divider and diff locks? He was only spinning one wheel a side. Every ten wheel truck I have ever seen has the diff lock to send power to all the rear wheels... It helps quite a bit....

Cross axle locks either???
It may not have made much difference, but then again...
@W33Dblazer its not a truck also ...so its a SUV with some more cargo space.
trucks weigh more than 7500kgs
@308scoutrfl
It is a tv show 'bout o'hare towing.....they tow anything from totaled 18 wheelers to a stuck subaru.......it is on speed channel
Tow straps are good also, seems like you would need a fairly hefty rope to pull trucks.
@WaWagasman i agree. it did sound good.
@pelkman i tested both fords limited slip against a chevy posi. i have to have my tires spining like hell just to move the other side. i don't consider them the same unless proven other wise. i end up leaving my ford at home on muddy days. their is a difference on the performance side.,
That SUV weighs more then freaking half a ton...
It's nice to see people helping out other people.
@USGiorgi - mexican trucks? only gm truck built south of the border is the crewcab half ton, which is overflow from the indiana plant. not to mention the plants in flint, michigan. so which mexican trucks are you referring to?
@mfarmakas17 thats what is in the 1500 (half ton)...8.1 in the 2500 3/4 ton
at least he is helping, stop hatin
I wouldnt give the avalanche too much credit. I think the truck came out on its own power after backing up and getting a little momentum.
The first generation of avalanche's offered the 8.1.
*sings* Like a rock.
God winter is hell!!
I WANT THIS ONE!!!!!
I watch the whole video and great post except for a happy ending?
my dad once did this exact same thing with his avalanche
Where are the chains on the semi?
Having chains would have prevented that I know.
Last winter my dad got his Kenworth stuck in slightly deeper snow than that,he backed up a wee bit,put the chains on,flipped the switch to lock the diffs and off we went..no need for any pickup to "rescue" us or a loader to get us unstuck.
Holy shit and its an nfe too
I would have given up a long time ago. I've tried this with a mitsubishi pajero and its not easey, snow in front of the semi tires is really hard to pull through. uhh years im not sure ill have to get back to you on that one, but 8.1 liters equals a 496 cubic inch engine
Well put ChanticleerHegemony well put.
some knobby tires on the avalanche would have made the job much easier
Damn don't you know how to get somebody unstuck? You gotta get that thing bouncing back and forth.
who says it even got out completely? the video conveniently ended abruptly
they dont call it a 1/2 ton cause of the vehicle weight, its called that cause it can tow a half a ton (1000 lbs)...one ton trucks can tow up to 2000 lbs.

yup 2500 and 3500 avalanche the 8.1 was a optional engine
Chevy 👍 if I wanted a Hummer I'd call yer sister
hummer is owned by gm
It had to be a little aggravating with all that traffic. Sweet vid though!
super engine of the avalanche, the best truck.!
Was that a z71 or a z66? Wondering if it was in 4wd or not .
Beast truck...
i wondered the same thing, and a 3500 is a 1 ton but weighs well over
Limited slip and posi are essentially the same. Lol
what engine in the chevy?
raymarshall34 5.3 L V8
@ c8muells

@USGiorgi - oh, and the gm 6.2 eats the tundra all day.
Boosting. Truck help the most
080ollie they only offer the 5.3L in the avalanche where are you finding that they offered a 8.1L engine in the avalanche
When the video cut off u no a ford came down the street and hooked up to the chevy and the big truck and pulled them all to safety
Think I would’ve just shoveled snow from around the front wheels.....🙄
Range Rover or Land Rover would piss all over this lol
Now after pulling out the semi truck.the chevy truck will probably have a bad transmission or the transmission will fail because 1/2 ton trucks are not made to pull semi trucks out of the snow.
why rope and not chain?
just wondering cuz i have a chain and use it all the time i would consider using rope if there was a good reason to =O
AVALANCHE FTW!!!! i love my avy
i know its been a year but your right lol they just cant face the music
so im guessing it does good in the snow??
AFAIK chains are illegal. At least they are in Canada unless you live in the country
someones gonna need new snow tires
LOL wtf is the semi driver doing?? SPINNING YOUR TIRES IN THE SNOW DOES ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD! lol it just turns it into ice. damn.....
He figured it out at the end. Back up and try to get a little further.
Pretty impressive but not sure if that was a half ton
stampede4x4rage it was
@76popsbrockway well yea its a 2 and a half tons the chevy is 1 and a half ¬¬
@broncrider49 u really think theres gunna be a 4wheeler on the side of a highway in traffic pulling a truck?
Jesus give it a freakin tug
hahaha thats sick
u have the 5.3?
duh, half ton. i have the 8.1L and its a fuckin beast
did u have it in 4lo or auto 4wd or 4hi
Chevy all da way!!
id believe it if the semi's tires were spinning more
Wheres your "jewelery" at driver????
yoooo dude lol i got one 03 avalanche 2500 look it up bro im not lying trust me..u crack me up
