@@BelfastBandit Well, FA would probably want to keep him to be honest, because of how far he has brought the England setup. You forget what a shambles it was before he arrived. He is a failure of his own success in many ways. And yeah, all those expensive and talented players... that doesn't make a team. And international football has actually got harder in the last 5 years. More and more coaches following the Span and now England national coaching structures, not to mention all the tactical analytics they have.
England passing was too slow. Even Slovakia had crisper shorter passing. I lost count of the times that they were being pressed by five Slovakian players leaving a huge amount of space that wasn't then exploited. Instead, back, back, back, until Pickford launches it into nothing.
As it is, this was always going to be Southgate's last game. It's well known he still has club side management ambitions.
Interestingly, with England's talent, they might fair better against the better teams who are going to have more possession by hitting them on the break, rather than this constant low block, which is genuinely hard to break down unless someone is making mistakes or forced into mistakes.

The ref was shockingly bad, the Slovakia goal the player was fucking miles offside. We need to have a higher standard of referring in this matches. Slovakia have gotten away with VERY dodge VAR calls or not even bothering to goto VAR 3 times in the tournament..who made money off those decisions?

England play by exactly the same rules as everyone else, they had over 70% possession, hit the post, Kane somehow missed from 2 yards out and it came down to the last minute. Other than that Slovakia offered nothing. They were amazed they were somehow winning and tried as long as they could to park the bus and keep it that way, and they almost did. But they didn't. Both teams knew they were playing at least 96 mins. If the Slovakia players hadn't spent so much time rolling around all the time there would have been a lot less. So who's fault is that? Italy left it to the last kick vs Croatia and France have scored 3 goals so far, 2 OGs and a pen. Not one from open play in 4 games. Portugal only just scraped through against Slovenia, who England were slated for not beating. And Portugal have been beaten by a terrible Georgia side. Germany were made to look very ordinary and vulnerable by Denmark and Spain haven't been tested. Those who are writing England off should know better, or clearly don't remember italia 90 or euro 96.
