Fox shows owe Adult Swim a tremendous debt. Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, King of the Hill.. all amazing shows that brought in new generations of viewers who otherwise would have missed out on the original airings.

Couldn’t agree more. Adult swim was my baby sitter and I fell in love with Bender and Fry! Stewie and Brian And cowboy bepop samurai shampoo, wolfs rain! Sesshomaru the good old anime
No one was missing out on King of the Hill, Fox affiliates reran it all the time during the week.
@@lainiwakura1776 Not anymore. Nowadays fox cartoons mostly rerun on FXX or adult swim.
Family Guy as a show maybe got declined over the years in terms of quality, but the amount of Internet memes and the clip compilations on RUclips really keep the show's legacy alive.

We have to be thankful for Adult Swim for doing the right thing: bringing back shows we needed most. Adult Swim is a real life example of "one man’s trash is another man’s treasure."
Honestly Cartoon Network in general is like that just look at Johnny Test and Adventure time ( both were trash from their networks JT for KidsWB, and Adventure Time for Nick)

In loving memory of Family Guy airing on Adult Swim

gone but never forgotten!
Family Guy is still on [Adult Swim] in Canada (24 hour Channel)
Wow... 2003. I feel old now.
So Family Guy aired on AS since the year of my birth to the time I was in my senior year of high school. Damn.
Then.... Family Guy Fridays on Freeform.

Crass humor and bizarre moments is what made the Postal games work. Except the first, but that was a different tone.
LOL I bet half of the Family Guy fans haven't even watched a single episode
Those bots are so infuriating
Family Guy sometimes feels like a teen and definitely a adult show lol.
It’s so bizarre that, in the early 2000s, Adult Swim’s biggest hits were shows they didn’t originally make. Family Guy, Futurama, Cowboy Bebop.
I think Aqua teen and venture bros were quite popular on AS in the early 2000's though

Adult Swim did it with Tuca and Bertie after the show got cancelled on Netflix, so I think can be possible to make it happen.

AYO-
The closing point of television being a more stable incubation point than streaming for a niche audience is something that never occurred to me before. In a way, it mirrors the demand for instant gratification that gave rise to streaming in the first place.
I feel like Adult Swim reviving family guy was ultimately a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that, at the time, allowed the show to florish. But also a curse, and that after it became so wildly successful, mostly due to Adult Swim's marketing, Fox brought Family Guy back and ran it into the ground. I wonder how much different it would the show would be if it got an occasional hiatus every couple of seasons, almost like how South Park waited months before putting out new episodes. I get these are different shows and animation takes more time with family guy, but a break would serve these writers wonders, and I bet could slowly bring it back to how it was in its golden era.
I've seen seasons 1-3 of Family Guy more then any other show thanks to those DVDs. It was such a trip when it came back and Season 4 became a thing. We were SO stoked for it!
I can't believe I now live in the timeline where Morgan and Morgan are now youtube sponsers
I was about 10 years old when my brother and I first discovered Family Guy on [adult swim] way back in 2003. We thought it was absolutely hilarious at the time. But when I tried rewatching the show as an adult years later, I couldn’t get into it. It does have its moments, but the show as a whole doesn’t do much for me.
On the other hand, I remembered loving Futurama, another Fox adult cartoon that was canceled and picked up by [adult swim] the same time as Family Guy. Futurama is now one of my all-time favorite shows.
I remember When Cartoon Network Adult Swim came out. A ton of people were pissed off that Universal Studios refused to let Exosquad on the channel. I remember, there were a ton of petitions to put Exosquad on the time slot and it was mainly ignored by Universal Studios who still repeated that Exosquad was a kid show only. Even today they still do, putting in the kid's section on their Peacock streaming service.
Man that sucks. They clearly don't know what kind of audience that loved that show the most.
Remember Codename: Kids Next Door doing an episode all about "Cancelling Adult Swim" ?
They had two nefarious adults who took over the local pool for the express purpose of kicking kids out and keeping it to themselves? I think one was named Mr. Blinkman.
It was too funny
Nostalgic as hell. I remember this all happening when I was 5 watching adult swim when I wasn’t suppose to. Futurama and Family Guy will forever be classics.
Adult Swim’s bumper saving Family Guy felt heartwarming, because Adult Swim was like a father to Family Guy, even more so than FOX itself. Sure, Family Guy has declined drastically in quality, but the series definitely belongs on Adult Swim.
@Deadpoool.Here's your father you've been looking for:
More like Adult Swim here is the cool and awesome adoptive father to Family Guy during those days.
Eh your comment about the quality isn’t as true currently.
Fox is Family Guy’s dad that left them pretty early on in life. Adult swim is the neighbor who helps out family guy’s mom every now and again to serve as a good father figure for him.
Once that kid starts making music and gets money, fox comes crawling back and acting like nothing really happened.
And Disney is Fox’s new wife that doesn’t think he should spend anymore time with the neighbor anymore because it’s “weird”.
@@phabiorules that is so accurate it is physically painful

I remember when Family Guy got renewed for Fox, one of the things Seth McFarland required to be part of the contract was that Cartoon Network, and specifically [adult swim] would be permitted to keep getting the episodes, including the new ones. Seth was not only a regular writer for [adult swim] shows, but he was well aware that the show had lasted long enough to be a hit because of them.
Kinda crazy to see that family is now just compilations with gameplay and sensory videos at the bottom when back then you had to wait for it to air and watch commercials and view it on a big tv

Pretty crazy how the success of shows back in the day had so much to do with the time slots it aired in. We just don't have that anymore.
Glad someone’s making a video on this, I often have had this same thought. (With no actual research)
Family Guy didn’t move to Hulu, it’s always been there as its streaming home, it moved to Freeform (as well as FXX). What happened was that Adult Swim was only running seasons 1-15, while 16 and onward were on FXX (and Freeform). When Family Guy left Adult Swim, it allowed the unification
Getting the first three seasons on dvd back in the day was definitely an accomplishment for me as a kid lol. Those seasons hold a very special place in my heart.
I just wanna go back to Summer 2005 for like a week just to stay up til 3am watching adult swim and talk on AIM.
Seeing final space in the background hurt. It was unjustly canceled along with inside job they both had so much more to give and now their stories will never be finished
Same, it's been like two years and I can't get over the fact that it basically ended with its villain winning due to the show's cancellation
THEY'RE BACK
As an adult that doesn't watch family guy now. This video hits home. I am a veiwer a bit younger that grew up with it and Futurama as a child. I'm 25 now and this video has so much nostalgia for me, like I didn't get the jokes from an older perspective but it was very much still a show I loved. We bought the DVDs too and my favorite episode to watch was the one where Stewie went inside peter to prevent his parents from conceiving another baby. CRAZY if you remember what that episode was showing. I watch American Dad now and that's my preference of the two but it's so wild how much that show was prevalent in my childhood.
It's weird but those episodes where a character travels inside another person's body are always so interesting. Just like that one you've mentioned.
A few things Saber.
One big reason that Seth McFarland decided to make an animated adult show after his thesis and pilot was the Simpsons, he saw a lot of promise in animation for adults, and him and Groening are on good terms.
Also Disney didn't put Family Guy on Hulu after acquiring 20th Century Studios, it's been on there as long as I can remember; it's how I usually watch the show.
Wow Lmaooo Saberspark put my Content-sludge family guy video on the intro! 0:13
I remember only watching adult swim for family guy. When something else would come on, I would usually just switch over to reruns of George Lopez on Nickelodeon
"That's how old this show is."
I believe a recent quote from the show descries it best: "You have to be born in the 80s, but still be a teenager."
FG was beloved pre cancelation, then after its renewal, the downward spiral began.
It even had a staggering parallel to Brian's death and revival in the later seasons.
What AS decided to air as the final episode felt like a euthanization of a pet that was in unbearable pain...
adult swim did a good job with their break screens
cause i was way to young to watch it at the time and the bumpers always scared the life outta me. i can imagine this working on other young kids to. which i think was a good thing
5:07 that’s not Seth. That’s butch hartman, the guy who made fairly odd parents and Danny phantom
Thank you Saberspark, for being the voice of saying how Family Guy is such a great show. I'm so SICK and tired of everyone (viewers and the cartoon producers) telling me what to watch, when Simpsons is too boring and unfunny, South Park is too crude and bland, and other shows just following a bland storyline overall with boring humor.
“Did it die?” “Sadly yes, but it lived!”
I think that you, Saberspark should investigate this one video on RUclips that’s called “The Lonely Seed”. I saw it today in Greenhouse during school and that was just plain weird! It had visuals worse than Cocomelon but as ugly as Joshua and the Promised Land. When I walked out of the class, I was thinking: “What the hell was that?!?”
So crazy hearing Peter and Brian voices from different characters plus they going shopping at STEWIE'S
WHEN YOU SAID YOU SEEN FAMILY GUY THAT SOUNDS LIKE ME WATCHING SOUTH PARK
Adult swim always be saving shows and bring them back from the dead
...at times, only to kill them again (*cough*tucaandbertie*cough*)
Tell that to Kogarth
They’re like necromancers.
Didn't Futurama go through a similar process between comedy central and adult swim.
I can't remember who did it, but i remember before it swapped from one to the other, they swamped the schedule with Futurama episodes to try and wear it out before it changed hands.
Fun fact: Fox canceled Family Guy and Adult Swim picked it up for reruns, which made it much more popular so Fox started making more episodes. Indirectly, Adult Swim made Family Guy.
Fun fact: all you did was summarize the video.
Dam bro that’s crazy
Fun fact! The opening for adult swim originally with the slogan All Kids Out of the Pool. While showing footage of old people.
Was to detour kids away from the adult segment. Sometimes there would be 10 to 30 second footage of old people which surprisingly kept the younger audience away from adult swim.
Which actually worked.
It didn't just save family guy, it saved american dad too as a side effect of FG getting uncancelled and pulling seth mcfarlane away from american dad's writing
So many good memories from rewatching the episode of brain going out with Stewie trying to find his mom. So many memories with old childhood friends come flooding back just from seeing the short clip of them dancing on the train. I think I may even rewatch it tonight, early family guy was amazing
I was about 10 in the mid-2000s and I watched Adult Swim all the time. And I was obsessed with Family Guy to the point where I had a pen that played Stewie quotes and a throw blanket from Hot Topic. I vividly remember watching American Dad as it debuted after the Super Bowl too the same year I was obsessively watching Family Guy, and I loved that show too. Aside from all of the 80s references, the show was perfect for late kids and teens. And the show was so much better then. I stopped watching soon after the Surfin' Bird episode came out. But I'll always love those earlier seasons.
adult swim is also infamous for their April Fool's day jokes. If you wanted, you could do a video about this for an April fool's day special video.
It still amazed me when adult swim started showing up on Cartoon Network. It was such a stark contrast
I never really got into Family Guy . I did watch it and I thought it was OK. Had it's moments, but also a lot of what I'll call "potty humour" that was not my thing. Interesting to hear about the history of it.
Adult swim is like a mother goose for adult animation that wants on tv, I've heard that even Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel are going to Adult Swim, but dunno if it's true
Is it just me or does anyone else watch the modern seasons more than the old seasons?

You know your old when you remember the original Adult Swim early scenes. Literally brought back a lot of nostalgia!!!
For years I thought Family Guy was an Adult Swim and TBS cartoon and wondered why they hated FOX so much. When someone told me it was a FOX show I thought they were trying to fool me.
American Dad! got pick up by TBS after Fox cancelled it in 2014 and remains
They hated fox bc Fox always Milked the Simpsons more and kept changing their slots leading to its cancellation, while adult swim aired like 1 episode a night, no cuts for commercials and the deleted jokes that fox never shows, and then 1 turned into 3 episodes a night (and sometimes 1 repeat). Which means they love adult swim more than fox for not cutting jokes for commercials
I'm 31 and I there are times I feel like I'm 80-100 years old. VHSs were a big part of my boyhood. My parents and family had tons of video tapes piled almost all over the house and sadly a lot of them either broke or got taped over. And there are times I'd give anything to get a number of them back and prevent from some of them from getting taped over and wrecked. My dad use to record a lot of things on VHS.
Family guy went off the rails by the very latest early 2009 if not before that. The adult swim rerun years in the early days of the first 3 seasons will always remain classic. I remember being 7 years old when my dad was watching the superbowl in 99' when family guy premiered and I can remember the original fox run when I moved from gerogia to Colorado that December. Then a few years later in early 2002 I remember the early adult swim reruns of those. I used the money I earned doing yardwork that summer and used it to buy the DVD sets and a shitty $20 DVD player and we hooked it up to this shitty 4" countertop TV we had from goodwill and my friends and I would watch the DVDs on the front porch over and over until we wore those boxsets out. When it was revived In 2006, it already had a different feeling to the approach but it was still funny for another 2 to 3 years before it just became utterly vulgar, crass, and unnecessarily mean spirited.
You NAILED it, friend. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
While Disney kicking the legs out from under [as] and taking Family Guy from them made me sad, I gotta say the edit at 15:09 made me actually laugh out loud 😂
