random question, but since the 80s are before my time, was this genre actually called fusion jazz? It's definitely not what I think of as either jazz or fusion (which generally means prog-rock / jazz crossover these days) but maybe the term had its own meaning back then. I've only heard this kind of music called city pop, and the next closest genre I can think of would be yacht rock, or maybe lounge(?) but feel free to correct me!
@@shockofthenew no, this is city pop :) Japanese music just has a habit of also being jazzy as fuck, something to do with the wild way the harmony follows the melody and the rhythm i believe

Those are actually Real album covers remade by them, they are Timely!!, by Anri; Telescope, by Shigeru Suzuki; and Ride on Time, by Yatsuro Yamashita.
random question, but since the 80s are before my time, was this genre actually called fusion jazz? It's definitely not what I think of as either jazz or fusion (which generally means prog-rock / jazz crossover these days) but maybe the term had its own meaning back then. I've only heard this kind of music called city pop, and the next closest genre I can think of would be yacht rock, or maybe lounge(?) but feel free to correct me!
@@shockofthenew no, this is city pop :) Japanese music just has a habit of also being jazzy as fuck, something to do with the wild way the harmony follows the melody and the rhythm i believe
The dynamic duo back at it again
I’M SO HYPED
I love louie, seeing you two preform together always makes my day
This song definitely gives off some humor vibes, but jokes aside, I think it represents some really important lessons. Sometimes, life is better when you do what makes you happy with those who make you better. Thank you both for this masterpiece.
the vibes are delicious. My compliments to the chefs...
I... I don't know why I'm acting like I just ate this song.
it is good food
Scrumptious really
It's a tasty jam, can't be helped.
Tastes like watermelon.
@@borderlinecrazy6444 but like, artificial watermelon, in the best way, like a jolly rancher.
Brian, you're quite possibly my favorite independent content creator today. Thank you for all of the laughter you bring us.
He is my favorite content creator. He inspires me every day
I love how you were able to make this look Summery, even though this was probably filmed not too long ago.
Brian lives in LA, it's always the exact same weather there
@@swiftlymurmurs fun fact, the only exception is Spring. After it rains, all of Socal, which is usually brown, turns green for a few weeks and it's insanely gorgeous. It's nice all year round, but Spring is the best.
@@swiftlymurmurs wait when did brian move to LA? :o
@@screeeee6171 Around the time he left Polygon!
@@swiftlymurmurs excuse me what??? I thought he still lived in new york honestly.
This is what plays in my head every time I see 80's Brian.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH WHAT?! The bright colours?! The lyrics?!? Amazing!! You guys are a legendary duo, I expected nothing less. What a fun music video!
Things that I love: the clothing, the melody, the lyrics, the vibe, the whole video.
The 80s city pop vibes are so good. It's like an injection of nostalgia for a place I've never been
same dude, I couldn't figure out why I felt nostolgic for an era that I didn't live in
@@omnivorouslawnclippings Same. I think it's because we can enjoy the idealised version of it without having to be aware of any negative part of it.
I absolutely love City Pop, but never in my wildest dreams would I have expected BDG to drop a City Pop banger! I love this man so much
I have no reason to expect either of you to see this but I feel like saying it anyways; when I found Pocket and Thumbnail a few months back they instantly became two of my favorite songs and really helped with my mood, this new collab is incredible and truly brightens my day every time I hear it. You two keep managing to create something truly special, and for that, I thank you.
Pocket is definitely the weakest one imo, still good but the others are just so great haha
0:23 honestly thats just such a fantastic edit that nails a punchline. Love it.
Agreed. That was somehow both a surprise and completely expected from one of his videos, lol.
especially that all-red fit. i was like what can get better than bdg’s fit right now? then BOOM louie’s fit hit so hard
The greatest plot twist
The Anri “Timely!!!” homage cover at 1:17 was so great. This song feels like it’d go perfectly in a playlist with Shyness Boy. I love it
And the 2:35 Ride on Time homoage!!
Can't figure out what 1:23 is
@@HWHAProb According to Brian's instagram it's Telescope by Shigeru Suzuki
OH i knew i recognized it from somewhere!!
i’m so glad that BDG is getting recognition for his singing its literally the best
When is this on spotify? I need it in my ”bitch these songs are too happy you’ll look dumb if you keep crying”-playlist.
So basically, "Don't you dare exclude a brighter color from your mood"
Imma need that Playlist 🤣
I bet it has a lot of B-52s.
fr fr i need this on my uncontrollable smiles summer playlist
Based. I'mma need a link to that playlist btw
Lyrics for people who want them:
(haha)
Thought I'd met all
Of my good friends
Even thought I couldn't tell why!
Who would predict
That we'd have clicked
Without even having to try?
I know you know
I'd come running
At the slightest hint you feel real blue
Don't you dare exclude
A brighter colour from your mood
We'll break through!
And be feeling brand new!
Oh! Why not break into a breezy slide? (Breezy slide!)
Oh! We just gotta grab the keys and ride! (Keys and ride!)
Oh! And the chill we feel can’t be denied! (Don’t you deny!)
Oh! Everything we do feels easy!
Thought I’d be fine
All by myself,
But even I knew that was a lie.
Still I wasn’t sure, if one pal more
Would be the best way to simplify!
I know you know!
I’ll be there when you feel low!
Take a seat my friend and check the agenda!
First, the park, where we’ll see nice doggies!
Then embark, and we’ll paint cute froggies!
Finally,
grab some tea
by the sea!
You and me!
Ohh! Why not break into a breezy slide? (Breezy slide!)
Ohh! We just gotta grab the keys and ride. (Keys and ride!)
Ohh! And the chill we feel can’t be denied! (Don’t you deny!)
Ohh! Everything we do feels easy!
Tysm!
The amount of times I've replayed 2:25 can not be counted by the greatest mathematicians. It's just such an unbelievably satisfying edit and the vibes are so immaculate it repairs all the damage in my soul.
absolutely LOVING those outfits (and the glasses, too, iconic)! gonna be vibin to this on repeat for the rest of the day, don’t mind me
not only are the vibes ~*immaculate*~, the editing is as well, just when my mind wandered to "I wonder who styled them and what that process was like"- BAM! Shopping montage. sweet tunes my dude
I really just want a full BDG and Louie Zong city pop album.
Instant classic. Love the reference to "TIMELY!!" as well as a very "Takanaka" type of outfit lol. Hope this comes to spotify sometime. Would buy a whole album in this style.
I immediately thought of takanaka when I saw the red suit and banana guitar combo
This has strong "Bowie and Jagger did a song together" energy, and I mean that in ALL the ways.
I am jealous of both BDG's style and that banana guitar.
I've watched this on loop like 10 times and I felt it in my soul everytime the scene changed and Louie switched from very cool sunglasses to prescription glasses. Deciding whether to see the world with clarity or to let the world see you in very cool sunglasses is a painful choice to make /hj.
The world is cooler when you see it through very cool sunglasses.
Yesterday one of my best friends passed away. He loved both of your work so very, very much and we would save new uploads to watch together. This kick-ass wholesome friendship-jam feels so very fitting and he would’ve loved the shit out of it. Thank you for making such wonderful things, this really made me smile ❤️
The amount of talent in this video is insane; the musical talent, the photographical talent, the writing talent, THE JUMP TALENT, the directing talent and, man, the dress department was on point.
The moment at 2:28 is so cheesy yet in a way that fits perfectly. To me this is a song about a bunch of great friends having fun making a music video.
just gonna be me and and you and these two pron bots in this reply section my guy
@@ladytron0591 it do be like that don't it
God I never knew how badly I needed a BDG x Louie Zong city pop song but now I need a full album of this
Those citypop references were so cool 😭
these are the ones i got:
1:17 Timely!! - Anri
1:22 Telescope - Shigeru Suzuki
2:06 Masayoshi Takanaka's concert with a big ass surf table shaped bass
2:34 Ride on Time - Tatsuro Yamashita
0:11
Until shown conclusive proof otherwise, I choose to believe this is how BDG broaches the question of collabs from here on out.
2 things:
1. I've never found something that more perfectly aligns with my aesthetic than this video
2. BGD and I are rocking the same metallic green nail polish!
Slay
What's the name of the nail polish? I've been looking for a good metallic green ever since sinful colors stopped making mermaid tail.
This song was desparately needed back in February 2022 - it is still loved dearly today
The thrift store montage was absolutely iconic , i love it so much ! And the music is SO GOOD as always !!
Finally. I was waiting for these two to collage again. Pocket and Thumbnail were amazing
That crescendo though!!.. at 0:45.....hooks me every time!
Geeks me out every time...music, video, the whole sha‐bang
Thanks for sharing on Spotify, so grateful
Damn, I never know what to expect from this channel, sometimes it’s random horror sketches, sometimes it’s weird cooking videos, and then we get unironically fantastic music videos and songs. You def know how to keep us on our toes Brian
Can we just appreciate their outfits they're SO good
The amount of serotonin this video contains is unreal
THIS SONG IS SO GOOD..... my mood has instantly been lifted
Of COURSE BDG made a City Pop inspired song! Why wouldn't he?! Yet again something I never knew I needed. Thank you.
P.S. I LOVED the "Timely" and "Ride on Time" album cover parodies! I didn't recognize the second one, but it looks so familiar!
Edit: The second album cover is Sigeru Suzuki's "Telescope"! Nice.
Oh snap I didn’t realize that. Good catch
i like to imagine that louie just has a banana guitar in his inventory at all times and just takes it from his back pocket at anytime anywhere
We're getting a whole album right? This is amazing! The fashion is so good! The sound! Louie has got the 80's Ryuichi Sakamoto look down! And the graphic design is so great! I love the Ride On Time homage the most. Thank you for your hard work!
The "Ride on Time" cover recreation at 2:35 is fucking legendary
I couln't understand why i liked that song that much and played it on repeat but it just feel like a warm hug from a close friend that will be with you forever and no one else. And that felt so good, i really needed it thank you so much.
i've been recently getting into city pop and jazz fusion and hearing this was like a sweet treat for my now expanded music vocabulary. thanks bdg and louie for these chill friendly vibes
yo got any jazz and city pop music recomedations
@@mostlybaton1696 Here's a few albums

BDG made a deal with Holy Sonic to have this much talent and this amount of good ideas, voice and friends is unbelievable
Tell us Brian, how do we join your Sonic religion to achieve this level of perfection?
"Hello world" by Louie Zong has been in my spotify wrapped two years in a row. And it tickles me to see you two working together.
they already had a colab called "thumbnail" which is one of my all time fav songs
Praise to the both of you for 1. Making a song that fits in both this era and the past and 2. Releasing the instrumental (do you know how many more artists I wish would do that?).
Edit: Anyone else notice Louie playing the trumpet in the car drive-by?
God, this was a pure celebration on how much of a deal it is that the both of you vibe together 😍
I'm sure I'll never* get over it.

Oh gosh. As a fan of both of you for several years (I think I first found Louie in 2017, and you in 2018), this video just made me so happy. The colors and vibe are so full of joy! I was grinning uncontrollably through the entire watch. Thank you for sharing!! :D
this music video has some banger poses to use in art! and the song is fucking great too
