    Awesome stuff!
I find this kind of video more interesting than a brand new release somehow...
...looking forward to your "comparisons" (if you think you'll try that; CCD vs CMOS).

Congratulations Lee, Samsung certainly knew what they were doing with a collaboration with Pentax they couldn’t go wrong.

    Lee
I see you finally got a CCD sensor camera. I like my Pentax CCD cameras the colors really do pop when you edit the pictures

The Samsung GX10 & Pentax K10D have a CCD Sensor and a full 22bit colour processor. Giving true 22bit colour. Unlike the 14bit CMOS sensors of today. Hence amazing colours.👍

      Interesting, I didn't know that.

Congrats on your latest catch, Lee. While I can't shake the feeling that the value and relevance of CCD vs. CMOS sensors are a bit overhyped these days, when digital cameras have become so good that people begin to get bored of the near-perfection and all of a sudden rediscover their nostalgia for the toils of film photography, or the time when digital sensors still gave you "film-like" colours. Now, when I look at the colours afforded by the DNG files from my K-3 Mark III, they strike me as deeper, more differentiated, and more accurate than anything I have seen from both the K-7 and the K-3 I owned before (both with CMOS sensors, as far as I recall), so honestly, what more could I want? I will say that the K10D was the camera that first drew me to Pentax digital, based on some of the early reviews, but also, and perhaps more importantly, after seeing and admiring some of the gorgeous sample images that were advertising it on the Swiss Pentax website. At any rate, rock your GX-10 with some of that nice Pentax glass that you got, Lee.

You are going to have some fun:)
I've tried the K200D, Pentax's last CCD sensor camera. You will notice that alot has happened since the early 2000's, on the feature side. But what it lags in resolution, dynamic range, and fps, it makes up for in filmlike colors and contrast. AWB was good too. On a bright sunny day it delivers "postcards" straight out of camera;)
When I imported the RAW files to Lightroom I experienced that I didn't want to change much (or couldn't;). The Images were "done" already.
I look forward to hearing your first impressions. Hope that everything works 🙏
    All the best

Good luck with that one. I'm still trying to get to grips with my K3ii, which gives far superior RAW files compared with my sadly broken K50 ( aperture block error). But I once owned a 5mp Sony compact with a Schneider branded lens. Rubbish in poor light, but in goid light the sensor and lens produced remarkable results.

    Yeah, I did it! 😇
My CCD camera is *ist DS. Gorgeous little Pentax from 2004. I think there's not much _CCD magic_ , however, just narrow dynamic range resulting in higher native contrast of the RAW files. Anyway, enjoy yours, Lee!

It's in really good condition! I cleaned it up & to my surprise it does look decent. The shutter count is fairly low just over 8K. From the first batch of shots I've took I'm really impressed with the colours, especially the reds!

@LeeIveson brilliant, so many barely used bargains about. Also, 10mp is good enough for fantastic shots. I have heard that CCD sensors are amazing, have fun!

I still use my Pentax k10d even though I have a few of their newer cameras. Even at 10 Mp, the photos are nice. I noticed the Schneider label on the lens - do you know who really made it?

Output is 12bit RAW. And quite poor when compared to anything like 14bit K5/K3.
I have them all.. also K20D which is MUCH better camera than K10D.

The Schneider 18-55mm is the Pentax 18-55mm WR except for the fact that it's not WR.

I couldn't say, its weird because the Pentax 18-55 & 50-200 are pretty much identical to the Samsung/Schneider versions. Maybe it's somthing to do with the lens coatings?

    Schönes Wochenende.

Pondering is there a truth to CCD sensors being more film like. In the era when camera companies tried to match the current image results trying to persuade photographers to move to the digital side?

    • @LeeIveson

It would be interesting to compare the CCD sensor to a film camera to see how close it is.

LOL, CCD's are better than Cmos sensors. They're sharper.

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  4 месяца назад +1

I've had some interesting things happen when playing around with the files in LR. I can't comment on sharpness just yet as I've not had chance to use the same lens on this & another camera body but I'll definitely keep an eye out to see.

@@LeeIveson Over the years, I've noticed an increase in pixels but not much increase in image quality. Going from the 10mp CCD on the Nikon d200 to the 12mp Cmos on the D300 was a step backwards in IQ. Then we jumped to 16mp's which saw a slight increase in overall IQ and then 24mp's (all aps-c, and 36mp's for FF and we had a bit more IQ, and then we jumped to 45 and 60 mp's for FF BUT we also got a lot of pixels on the sensor that went to phase detect AF for mirrorless AF and it seems the IQ suffered. The 36mp sensor in the K1 and D810 is better than the 45mp sensors in the newer EVF cameras with phase detect AF. I'm not sure if the K3 III does phase detect AF in live view, if it does it uses AF pixels on the image sensor. I don't think it does, and that's one of the MAJOR benefits of DSLR cameras.
