Why Sirs, This is the greatest mechanical marvel I have ever laid my eyes upon. It's thoroughly demented. I LOVE it ! Even the door swung open as you did a twirl. FANTASTIC. I laughed like a drain.
I really like the way it looks with the old truck body on it. I still think a big old log would work for the front bumper. Just in between the tracks make a flat place on the back of the log, lag bolt a piece of metal and weld a couple of mounting arms on. What ever you decide I am sure it will look cool.
Aceman307 Not sure but will try anything that looks cool. I don't want it to hang up on it. thinking of the hedge row busters of ww2, just turned upside down
It must have been an utter *blast* getting that bent-track steering system to work properly, eh? If it was me building it, I probably would have welded the mid-ship suspension supports/steering assemblies solid to the frame and converted the final drive to a triple-diff setup to achieve steering, as handling well in turns is not something that Universal Carriers were ever known for, and triple-diff setups can neutral-steer, to boot, which a Universal Carrier can't even dream of doing. I'm planning on building a Universal Carrier-esque tracked vehicle one of these days, using an old Jeep Comanche cab that I've had sitting around for ages. The only problem is sourcing parts. I'll probably just end up taking measurements off a built Universal Carrier and copy the geometry with a standard truss-ladder frame maybe made of I-beam material. In Southern Ontario, real tank chassis', let alone suspensions, don't come even close to cheap or easy to find. On the other hand, it's easy to take measurements, draw everything out in CAD, and maybe make something that looks like it was meant to be that way while using nothing more than the bogies, sponsons, idlers and drive wheels from a Universal Carrier. Also, a truss-frame would probably make the end-result much lighter and more maneuverable, while allowing for a more seamless integration of the truck cab into the chassis, which could be built to achieve that. Come to think of it, if I had a Universal Carrier laying around, I would probably strip everything out of the hull, scrap the hull and then make a chassis that would have the same dimensions in all of the critical parts as the original, but is much lighter, as when it comes down to it, all of that "armor" (I'm using that term fairly loosely here) on the Universal Carriers is just dead weight on a non-military vehicle. Getting rid of all that weight would also make things much easier on the tracks, suspension and drive sprockets. Great build, though. It makes me a little proud to see that flag hanging off the back of such a bad-ass build.
Thanks man. The center steering was cut and welded to the frame long before I got it. Its been converted to use two master cylinders the wheel cylinders to steer. Shes a full on track drager now. Brengun carriers are really hard to fin now and if you find one it will cost you
Good stuff. You have done what I have wished I could do since I was old enough to remember my Grandfather's war stories, all of which involving the Mk IV Universal Carrier he served on as an "Assistant Driver"/Gunner. Building a Mk IV Universal Carrier will remain on my bucket list indefinitely, sadly it seems. Guess I'll have to make due with the Tamiya or Dragon 1/35 model kits. I plan to make one for every variant that saw service during the war, Canadian or otherwise. Right now I'm working on my second one, which is the variant that had an AT gun mounted on it, and my next one will probably be the Engineer variant. The only kit I've finished so far was the RCAC-issued Recce variant.
Nice tank "teeth marks" on the side of the Nissan! Come a long way from that old beetle tank you used to run. Still need some big ass dragster pipes on the tankenstein!
Years ago,the monster truck guys ,like Bigfoot ran tanks like that. I think Bob Chandler's Bigfoot tank was called Bigfoot fast track. They were pretty quick, but didn't go over with the fans for some reason.
Thick, cold, syrupy oil ... starts it cold and revs the hell out of it ... then takes off in first gear, revving it to the red line. Damn, son ... do you hate that engine?
Quadrajet, I can tell. They run great on a warm engine but are a bitch on a cold one. Cool inside the cab shot while driving, Pretty neat how it works.
Saw this thing today in Frankford at a car show, did you drive it there or trailer it?! I would think it wouldn't last a second anywhere near a public road without being impounded and crushed, but I didn't see any trailers around!
I'm assuming you're using the drum brakes on the rear to do the steering, the levers engaging, disengaging each individual drum to turn it left or right?
Was cost or availability the issue so u used a small block chevy or just preference? Maybe a Cummins might have been more in order on a build like that?
i love this.. at first i thought it was a stuart chassis but now im not so sure.. really could. would love to do this. how much do the basic chassis go for from tanks about that size?
ah, alright. really cool idea though. id be curious as to how you managed to get it going engine wise. im assuming your using the original transmission but what about the engine? are you using the original as well or did you find a way to mate another engine to the trans?
im running a small block chev with a turbo 350. a short drive shaft in between the original standard trans. if you goto my channel you can see how i made it right from the start
i put a rebiuld kit in the carb. it runs better once it warms up it was still cold in the video but once it hits 180f its good. should put a hand choke on it lol
I bet the neighbors love you.
People in America are pondering that the reason why Canada is so quiet is because it's developing a large weapon... Well, this is that weapon...
Why Sirs, This is the greatest mechanical marvel I have ever laid my eyes upon. It's thoroughly demented. I LOVE it ! Even the door swung open as you did a twirl.

Something i learned a few years ago was when i was towing . Was to shorten the Chain. You get a better tow doing that.
***** More of it pulling down to give you more traction.
+ShawnCFarm is that on the chassis of a ww2 British bren gun carrier
+Matt Rodriguez Yes it is, 1944 ford built here in ont canada
+ShawnCFarm is that a 1940 chevy body on a M5 stuart chassi?
Nice tank "teeth marks" on the side of the Nissan! Come a long way from that old beetle tank you used to run. Still need some big ass dragster pipes on the tankenstein!
rotorcats still have a ton of work to do on it before shes done
I see that you need some carb rebuild ;)
ps. propably ppl driving by were thinking "WTF?" :D
Vein1986 No choke lol, runs better once shes warmer, prob work better as well if I put the timing light on it hahaha
you need to get some exhaust on that thing so it will run smoother .
Hey I like that tank you was driving on the road in Canada hop u can drive it to the United states & plus I want to see you in person ?
Looks awesome ! :D

That thing is intimidating!
Looks better now I have the lights all working
gaaawd the sound is so awesome
+F R D no exhaust lol
Fuck yes.
Canada.
that's a Universal Carrier chassis. later called "Bren Gun carrier". later called "Bren Carrier".
I'm assuming you're using the drum brakes on the rear to do the steering, the levers engaging, disengaging each individual drum to turn it left or right?
+Matthew Rivard Yes using the rear shoes to steer but it is hydraulic brakes now
looks like the beginning of something from a mad max movie. where did you get the bren gun carrier chassis? or even any tracked chassis?
+mistercan396 They are out there but are really hard to find now
nice truck
I love it!!
Was cost or availability the issue so u used a small block chevy or just preference? Maybe a Cummins might have been more in order on a build like that?
Travis Martin Just what I had at the time, I would love to have a cummins in it.
Sounds cool
Looks better now
CANADA! Fuck yeah! Coming to save the mother fuckin day, yeah!
very cool project, what chassis did you start with?
Gavin S It was a badly cut up Brengun carrier. It was too far gone to restore so I just went with what I had
Would love to own that baby!
Thanks
Were is the drivetrain from? Bren/Windsor Carrier?
this is badass
Tanks more on my channel
All cars should be like Shawns
oh i love this!!
+HellNBack More on my channel, just took it in the mud for the first time

nice ratrod
That's badass
MrChristmas89 Tanks
Looks like it was built on a Light Tank MkVI chassis.
Am I right?
a good set of those bren gun carrier tracks are worth bug bucks
Your running a turbo400? Why only 1 gear?
Awsome...when you're looking for the proper tool to ruin your neighbor's lawn.
too bad you didn't put an air cooled diesel in this thing. badass looking I love it
If I had one I would, that would be so cool
their called Deutz air diesels I find them online for sale all the time.
If I were going to battle that is exactly what I would want to drive!! :) Awesome!! :)
Where is the chassis from? Is it something you built? And what about the engine?
It was a 1944 brengun carrier. It was to badly cut up to restore so just went with it. Small block chev with to trans behind it
MUY CREATIVO
what is that?is it self made or military?how old?
lol at the woop wooop woop woop sound stupid mechanical fuel pumps.
i love this.. at first i thought it was a stuart chassis but now im not so sure.. really could. would love to do this. how much do the basic chassis go for from tanks about that size?
the tracks are off a brengun carrier from ww2
ah, alright. really cool idea though. id be curious as to how you managed to get it going engine wise. im assuming your using the original transmission but what about the engine? are you using the original as well or did you find a way to mate another engine to the trans?
im running a small block chev with a turbo 350. a short drive shaft in between the original standard trans. if you goto my channel you can see how i made it right from the start
oh, i'll have to look into that, apologies!
no problems at all
its a rat rod on top of a tank casea
Give those carbs a good cleaning and adjustment its stalling out
No choke lol
ShawnCFarm oh. But once it's warm it shouldn't stall. It does sound lopy
i put a rebiuld kit in the carb. it runs better once it warms up it was still cold in the video but once it hits 180f its good. should put a hand choke on it lol
ShawnCFarm that's a good idea. How about a paper plate on the carb
For the choke
very cool
