You aren't changing the CMC of the card with lodestone golom, just how much you are paying. You shouldn't have done the 2 extra points of damage that you did when the lodestone golom was in play. Otherwise, amazing game! :3
The only things that ever change CMC are X spells on the stack. The number you choose for X is added to any colored or generic mana symbols to determine CMC.
When Alex sacrificed his commander in response to it getting capsized, that would fizzle the spell, and therefore capsize wouldn't have returned to his hand.
I have been burned by this once, and have burned many others in this manner... It is a lesson the capsize player will not soon forget. And just for a rules thingy, the reason is that buyback happens on resolution of the spell. If the target of capsize becomes invalid (my personal favorite is to reverberate capsize, with the same target), then capsize does not resolve, and buyback doesn't happen. It is functionally equivalent to countering it.
Buyback specifies that it goes to your hand when it resolves. By sacrificing vaecictis, the spell was countered by state based effects and should have gone to the graveyard.
Wow, what happened more often: the number of times Talrand was cast in this video or the average number of missed Rhystic Study triggers in an average MTG Muddstah video? :)
Mat had a fast mana start, but did things a lot of artifact decks do. Just durdle around. Played utility spells and didn’t take advantage of the fast mana
At first I felt like the powerlevel of this table was higher than usual (maybe because of Darettis insane start) but somehow the game took surprisingly long. Didn't expect the sudden end tho, you were lucky that Talrand had no counterspells available
Mhh I was surprised that [[Defense of the Heart]] didn't tutor a win-con with other people playing [[Mindslaver]] but that's the problem when you play with strangers/decks you don't know :)
When that Nova hit the field and I saw how many mana rocks Matt had left I just laughed. He had such an explosive start and that Nova just destroyed him :O Talrand was a bit annoying because he somehow ran never out of mana to cast him and the buybacking Capsize was really strong. I smiled when I saw Vaevictus and I hoped to see him really performe, but sadly he didnt :( If you get/got another game where he really does sth it would be amazing if you could show us :)

Ehh, the fact that the extra planar lense was effectively ignored the entire game was the main culprit of his power level. IMHO 1 capsize per turn and no other interaction is not scary in 4 player edh games. Likewise 2+ capsizes and interaction p[er turn is a little scary.
Great game ! Too bad Alex wasn't able to do much all game, an attacking Vaevictis is a force to be reckon with. Yawgmoth's will and mana geyser toghether Aha ! Thought you were going to burn the whole world :D Do you think you will have Marco and his Anafenza deck ever again on the show ? i'm kinda very interested and the last time there wasn't any decklist :) Keep up the good work, and thanks for the regular flow of good videos !
Inner Fire says "Add (R) for each card in your hand." Reiterate with buyback is 6 mana, copy a spell and return reiterate to your hand. With 9+ cards (Inner fire + Reiterate + 7) he was able to spend 10 mana to Fire+Reiterate at the same time with 7 cards remaining. Reiterate resolves, giving him 7 mana and Reiterate back. Before Fire resolves, cast reiterate again for 6, with 1 mana left. Reiterate resolves, earning an extra mana each time you loop and eventual "infinite" red mana. He then used 2 black mana + any amount of his red mana to cast exanguinate for lethal
I don't get how Mat lost this game with like 10 mana on turn 4. He missed a lot of things that would've let him draw more cards. Like, he could've sacced his Wurmcoil Engine to Daretti to return Mind Stone, getting 2 tokens and being able to sac the mind stone to draw a card. Keeping Daretti alive didn't matter with so much mana, all he had to do was draw more cards to make use of all that mana, even if it means recasting Daretti to uptick him for looting.
The ending just pissed me of so bad, cause that's exactly the type of strategy I absolutely despise...make infinite mana and cast X to just kill everyone/everything...still a good vid though
Hey just wondering if you could ask the chad from this video ( ruclips.net/video/Wo-OP_lf-iA/видео.html ) where he got his playmat cause its amazing and i want to get one. Also love your videos!
That's wild! Do you have a link to that new ruling? All the stuff we found on Google said it was fine provided the wording was in a certain way. Like, you can't fail to find with Demonic Tutor, but you can with fetches.
The only hange at the time has that you are not allowed to look at aideboards anymore. The fail to find still valid as long as the tutor require a characteristic (like ferches need lands), you cant and never could fail to find 'a card' (like demonic tutor) as long as there cards in the deck.
You aren't changing the CMC of the card with lodestone golom, just how much you are paying. You shouldn't have done the 2 extra points of damage that you did when the lodestone golom was in play. Otherwise, amazing game! :3
Aw lame! I'll keep that in mind moving forward.
@@MTGMuddstah not lame! Just think about playing things for less and getting the full cmc burn.
The only things that ever change CMC are X spells on the stack. The number you choose for X is added to any colored or generic mana symbols to determine CMC.
However cards with converge can get the benefit, paying GWUB for painful truths with a tax effect in play let's you pay 4 life draw 4 cards
When Alex sacrificed his commander in response to it getting capsized, that would fizzle the spell, and therefore capsize wouldn't have returned to his hand.
good catch!
Thats the best answer to capsize.
oooo that's good to know
I absolutely despise Capsize, so this'll be a good way to get rid of it

I’d be very careful of jonathon. There’s literal no way a blue mage doesn’t know that. Nice opportunity cheat.
Buyback specifies that it goes to your hand when it resolves. By sacrificing vaecictis, the spell was countered by state based effects and should have gone to the graveyard.
I love how the overloaded rift enabled your win.
Halophilic NC Because rift never wins games.
That mardu deck is truly a spellslinger deck for the 21st century! Blue spellslinger is so... 2018.
As always, great game!
Wow, what happened more often: the number of times Talrand was cast in this video or the average number of missed Rhystic Study triggers in an average MTG Muddstah video? :)
Excellent game! Glad to see the Mardu Spellslinger deck work so well! Looking forward to seeing it again in the future.
What in the hell was that finish
My guess, the firsttime blue went out of counters.
Due to the nature of Inner Fire, it was probably the only time the spell would work well with my board state. I went for it and got lucky lol.
Hope you get well soon Muddstah! 🤧
Affinity For Commander I love you guys maybe you should consider collaborating with mtg muddstah
We would 100% do this! 😀
That was a very cool way to finish it off. I was not expecting an insta kill. Good job muddstah
Thanks for the content. I try not to EDHrec so watching your gameplay vids is often invaluable to giving me inspiration for my decks.
Man i was so triggered by jonathan casting all of his instant spells in his main phase
practicing Addendum
Or when he cast pongify AFTER his commander got hit with swords to plow sharers
This was the best gameplay I’ve ever seen! So great, well done to all players
Mat had a fast mana start, but did things a lot of artifact decks do. Just durdle around. Played utility spells and didn’t take advantage of the fast mana
Taxing effects don't change cmc. Vial Smasher doesn't do extra damage. Also capsize should have hit the bin.
I stayed up all night for this

At 12:20, Gitrog could enter the field before the lands, drawing some cards. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Gitrog makes you draw cards when lands go to graveyard, not when you play them/they are put onto the battlefield.

Sweet combo finish dude!
Mardu spellslinger and Muddstah. Name a more iconic duo
I would enjoy seeing a Valduk (Keeper of the Flame) deck in action.
So Alex tutored and then STILL didn't have red mana? What was so important to grab with sidisi to keep you off your colours? Defense?
I think you forgot to discard to shreds of sanity at 11:15
Talrand, Capsize, Overburden... ugh.
And they wonder why blue gets so much hate...

I really want to see a Athroes/Shadowborn Apostle deck in one of your videos.
"Matt casts a Winter Orb in his main phase telling us not to freak out". *Everyone else still freaks out*
I wish they could change the ruling so we could redirect the damage to planeswalker when we hit a player with a creature...

"And I killed the table all at once." Silence
That finish though, bam!
How did you get Kano to do your intro? Kano confirmed for MK11!
That was a beautiful ending haha
That finish was nasty
...and it was at that moment Jonathan learnt to never play Cyclonic Rifts again.
hahaha what a insane combo with Exsanguinate, I didn't get the real effect, mind to explain?
Inner Fire says "Add (R) for each card in your hand."

Weird combination of partners xD
How was Jonathan casting his commander with only 8 mana it died lol 5 times
Extraplanar lens doubles his lands.

Mana Rocks the Gathering
Mat’s side costed like $$$ by turn 2
Jonath is a weird name
It's an abbreviation of Jonathan.
Hate to be that guy but it is "Vaevictis" not "Vaevictus"
which translates to more or less "losers, beware!". I loved how Kain shouted it every 30 second in Legacy of Kain: Defiance
I'd always heard it translated as roughly "Woe/Suffering to the Damned/Conquered", which is infinitely more badass :P
You cannot fail to find while being slaved anymore. The change was made back when the promised end was printed.
That's wild! Do you have a link to that new ruling? All the stuff we found on Google said it was fine provided the wording was in a certain way. Like, you can't fail to find with Demonic Tutor, but you can with fetches.
MTGO still allows you to fail with fetches to this very day. Link to ruling?
I'm at work. I'll look it up tomorrow.

Weakest Defense of the Heart ever :(
LOTS OF RED MANA
Take cyclonic rift
I hate Exsanguinate, and Gary.
