    Awesome job! Just an opinion, when I do the work with the dremel, I run my shopvac with my other hand. I have also, Siliconed in heavier hard scape pieces prior to foaming. Just let it cure partially and spray foam that side (put a screw into the end of the Silicone and it will last for days, no waste).

  • @zaccaldwell

    I love the effect of painting the sides. I can't believe people put so much time into building these vivariums and let the sides go. Great job Richard!

    Gage and myself are working on making all our tarantula enclosures like this! It looks great for both arboreal and terrestrial.
    We use great stuff, cork bark and mood moss to fill in the background and then the substrate usually has mixed of moss, live pothos and other decorations. We use springtails as our clean up crew and they seem to thrive so long as there is adequate substrate
    Super fun and looks great 👌

    I love what you made. The worse part of this DIY is I see what you had after the foam completed expanding and I had so many creative ideas for it. When I do it, I look and just see a mess that I don't know what to, that's why not being in a rush and giving yourself time to figure out what to do next sometimes helps. Overthinking is my worse enemy though.

    Looks awesome Richard! You really did it up! I just did one this past week. I did a cave for my orange head roaches to display their ravenous feeding behavior. I used fiberglass mesh to form the cave. Then I just coated it with silicone and added the spray foam. I will have to order the great stuff pond and stone as it is a bit cheaper than the stuff I got from the garden center at Lowe’s where they keep the pond supplies. My only critiques on yours would have been to anchor the ends of the branches with silicone, when you did the “wing walls” of the background. Also, you may have wanted to let the background to sit for a few days to assure the fumes had subsided before adding your gecko. The Biodude did post a video on his 3-D background kit, but took it down for some reason. I did get to watch it a few times before it was gone. I was told that they will be reposting it along with parts 3 & 4, eventually. It’s mostly the same way you did yours. Only they were doing it on a 36” x 18” x 36” ZooMed Paludarium for cinnamon tree frogs, with dense wood features and lots of spray foam and silicone. So they gave theirs a good week to cure. ;)

    This looks amazing! Roughly for everything, how much do you think a DYI project like this would cost?

    • @tarantulacollective
      @tarantulacollective  2 года назад

      The cans of great stuff at Lowes were $2.50 ea. I used 2 cans i believe. The silicone is $5 a tube and I probably used 2 or 3. So like $20 in supplies. Everything else like the substrate and wook i already had, but if you had to go out and buy the hardware, that would be another $30 or so.

    • @zero8xkira
      @zero8xkira Год назад

      Keep them dry. I spray a couple sprays of water on the walls every day. Feeding fruit about every 2-3 days. Remove the food after a day. They like eating soft foods like cut up oranges(no peel). Veggies like chopped up cucumber/zucchini are good too.
      Keep them nice and cool too and make sure they have a little cave to hide in. Most people give them egg cartons. I use the little cheap cricket containers with the vented top and Coco fiber for the substrate. Hope that helps

    Hi Richard, I'm trying to find a larger enclosure for my T and I noticed that on your website you mention that you keep your m balfouri communal in the exo Terra 18×18×12. But upon clicking it, it takes you to the Amazon listing where it states that it has a mesh top... I was under the impression that it's dangerous to keep Ts in with a mesh lid; is there something I'm missing? It's been hard for me to find a large enclosure that doesn't have mesh. Thank you

    • @tarantulacollective

      They come with mesh, but you can cut out the screen and easily replace it with a sheet of acrylic. There are even companies now that sell replacement kits.
