I think its the main difference with import vs domestic. Legends feel way more durable since kids can buy them and they are really rough with figures and play with them alot. But with imports they are the more prenium and not made for playing with it and making them fight with your other figures and smashing them around.

I hate elitism. It has no place in the hobby. Unfortunately it exists and will always exist because just like you said, weak minds are easily distracted & divided and set to fight people on behalf of companies that could care less about them and aren’t on their payroll. My thing is collect what you want, I’m never going to seriously bag on what someone collects. Everyone has their own taste and things they enjoy, that’s what makes people interesting and uniquely beautiful. If we were all the same, damn that would be boring. My collection is all over the place. Who cares? I got what makes me happy. End of story. If people take time to whine at you about your collection choices, jeez, I’d feel sorry for them. There’s way bigger issues to worry about in life. I have cheap Chap Mei Soldier Force toys to expensive figures like Lynx Pulse. Who cares, it’s in my home, while I’m minding my own business, there’s no need to comment on the fact I have $150 figures next to $1.50 figures. It’s so damn silly. But AN, you dropping truth bombs as always, I’m gonna nickname you B-52. 💥💥💥 One ❤.

I like having the Figures and playing with them, plan to do some toy photography with some McFarlane Figures in the snow (Witcher 3, DC Multiverse). I can't efford such expensive figures, I just want figures for a reasonable price, I don't need perfect depictions of characters, I'm OK with "close enough"

The expensive figures are always gonna be the ones that people hold high and appreciate more, but like you said; the cheap one may not look as good but it still allows for a fun time. I really enjoy being able to buy a figure and like it right out the box, but there’s fun in saving money and spending time with a figure to be able to customize it and make it better.

More money doesn’t always equate to better purchases. It comes down to the convenience of each buyer. What’s the point of buying a Dollie that you’re too afraid to touch? I buy from every company all along the price range. It’s about this the items cater to me and my wants and needs. Well said ninja.

  • @Frank_D

What it boils down to is the higher the price, the higher the risk. Some of the stuff I see coming out from high end collectors is pretty neat. At the same time, I purchased a $200 statue that ended up looking nothing like the photos (it was still nice, but not as nice as promo photos). Ultimately you're taking a risk, no matter what you buy.
I think the biggest example I can give that a higher price doesn't necessarily mean better figures is Super7. I have dozens of Super7 figures, and I absolutely love their product (especially the TMNT figures), but I got most of them on deep discounts. If I were to look at my collection, I could probably count on one hand the number of figures I would've been happy to pay full price to have. For the deeply discounted prices I paid though, they're awesome.
On the other end, there's NECA. In my personal opinion, based on the figures I have, I'm more happy with the price to value ratio when purchasing one of their figures, and I've always been happy with the figures I got, even at full price. They're solid, gorgeous figures, and while they're a higher-end price than something you'd get from Hasbro, they're worth it in my opinion. (Again, a lot of my experience is from their TMNT figures, but I've also got a couple of other brands from NECA, and I really like the figures)

I remembered last summer watching the offical look of the No Way Home 3 pack video from Dragonoid22 where someone in the comment section of his video was happy that he didn’t have to buy imports since the 3 pack was affordable for them and they got basically mocked by the SH figuarts fan boys through replies. Now of course I didn’t like what I saw so I defended the person in hopes they won’t feel pressure to spend more money. I hope they doing ok now. I feel like I did the right thing.

I think it's sad how so many collectors don't get how it's not entirely a question of how expensive a figure is(though that is certainly a factor), but rather how worth the price tag it is. One of the reasons Hasbro figures get criticized so much is because many don't feel that they're worth the ever increasing prices. Meanwhile if they were still $20, there'd be alot less complaints. This isn't even exclusive to Hasbro/McFarlane either, as there have been plenty of imports that don't feel worth it either, like alot of Figma over the last couple years.

  • @TheToyOdyssey

I think they both have their pros and cons. The higher-end one from the neck down is much nicer looking. The likeness of the Hasbro one has a better likeness. Also, the fact the Hasbro one is more user friendly probably makes it the better deal .

Domestic lines have the advantage that they usually do characters that import lines wouldn't if they had the same license, like Star Wars.
Bandai or Mafex make the popular characters from the movies and Hasbro has the Star Wars black series line which makes those characters as well but also background characters, aliens, droids, different variants of stormtroopers, characters ftom the video games and obscure expanded universe character as well.
    Another example is Street fighter.
Bandai had a Street fighter 5 line that made just a handful of characters while Jada Toys is planning to make pretty much everyone in the Street fighter 2 roster.

The problem with the higher priced figures is that Hasbro sees them and drools.
Hasbro wants to reduce their quality and charge those same prices or higher.
Hasbro is getting out of the toy business because their feeble attempts to hike their prices sky high while cutting quality has failed.

  • @straker454
    @straker454 8 месяцев назад +1

I do think that people often think that if it's an expensive figure or an import that is also expensive that it's automatically better and often, that's not the case. I've seen so many horror stories of the expensive Mafex figure hitting the floor and shattering while with Hasbro, that doesn't happen or if it does, rarely and you know that you can always get replacement parts online for cheap. Personally I want to feel like my money went into the product. I'll pay extra when I feel like the extra is justified. I said it before, it just seems that domestic toy manufacturers are trying to charge more because they believe they can get in on the high end market without really producing high end toys. They and their defenders will always say that they are raising quality with the prices and at least they are still less expensive than the imports but, in the end I think they will turn off the general buying customers.

I find the elitist mindset is just not conducive to any conversation. There aspects where you can agree and disagree on something; but still have the ability to see the other side and know why they chose that figure. I can say at this point in my life I may not pick up a Hot Toys figure. In honesty they intimidate me in a way where they are pricy and if I mess them up that hurts my wallet too. But that does not mean that people who got them are lame or anything. Hell, I like seeing people showing what they have found over time and built their collection. Do some collections scare me yeah, because you got to know how they are able to walk in the room. lol But they built that for themselves and they are happy with it and want to share that thing with you and show you it; that is the awesome part. As long it comes from a place of dude check this out, or hey I got advice that might help if you like, or this figure might be a bit out of your range but I think it would fit in your collection; and it is not laced with pretention, we can all get along and enjoy the hobby. Awesome video and enjoyed the insight you shared.

I dunno man, I mostly collect ML, but I have a few other figures. A couple neca figures, a couple mafex, a figma ASM, even some playmates tmnt. And, as far as they all go, I don't think the extra price on most imports are justified. ...in fact, there are a few figures that I PREFER the ML version over it's mafex, or revoltech, or etc counterparts. In most cases these days, a ML fugure is damn near as articulated and every bit as well painted as a mafex. IMO, the best company when it comes to quality and looks versus price, is neca. They may not be quite as articulated as some ML, or import figures, but theyre sculped and painted WAY better than most other figures and the articulation isn't TERRIBLE. Not to mention, neca really gives some kickass accessories in their "ultimates". I think that most other companies that produce action figures could learn a thing or 2 from neca. ...and keep in mind, I only have a couple neca figures in my sea of ML figures. Sik

I dabble in both domestic and import. Al lot of it strongly depends on what you are looking for. And lets say it up front, if you are a Marvel collector, particularly an MCu collector, Hasbro currently does the best head sculpts. No question. To the extent that I will get Marvel Legends figures just to mount the heads on other 9arguably better) bodies. Of what are considered the top tier big name imported companies Bandai SH Figuarts, Good Smile's Figma, Mafex and Mezco (yeah I know Mezco actually is confusing, but we'll clasify it with the others) There are things that they all do better than Hasbro or McFarlane or NECA. Materials for example. SH Figuarts and Figma are mostly made with ABS plastic, not PVC. It's a much more durable and lasting plastic (its the stuff Lego is made of). Import Articulation has been the top tier, although to give credit Hasbro and some Domestic brands like Valaverse have upped their game in recent years. The biggest best thing you get with most import figs is the accessories. Tons of hands, faceplates with a wide range of expressions, etc. It's a photographers dream. But it of course means you have to keep track of tons of teeny tiny parts that only go to one figure. If you are a just stand it on the shelf collector you likely do not need this. Soft Goods depends on your tastes. Personally except for some capes I generally hate cloth soft goods. Mostly because the oversized weave of the cloth always shows up in pictures. And zippers on 1/12 scale soft goods jackets always look like shit. Plus they are a pain to keep clean.

At the end of the day, it’s about what you want to prioritize. I used to have the Legends Thor and I replaced it with Mafex. I think the Legends one
has a better height and I like the sculpt more. At the same time, Mafex has better articulation and more accessories such as hands, heads, and hammer parts. This allows for more playability and I like having different display options for my figures. Also the biggest thing is the Legends Thor has a difficult time standing. Mine constantly kept falling over the hard cape/gumming legs didn’t help. I also didn’t like the lack of torso articulation and the legs not kicking all the way up. It looked cool, but it just wasn’t fun to handle for me and it bought down my display. It wasn’t the right Thor for me so I switched. Someone may feel differently and want to keep the Legends one. That’s completely cool. I go based on who has the better figure. And there are some cases where Legends and other domestic companies do it better and other times imports do better.

In most cases, yes, Figuarts, Mafex, Mezco uses higher grade plastics that makes joints last longer and don't turn into a pile of sticky goo. Marvel Legends and Jada Toys, regardless how good their paint and sculpting have become, the materials are not the same qualities of the former. In fact, all of my Jada Toys Street Fighter line have wobbling ankles and chipping paint now, and it's not even more than a year and I barely posed them. While my Figuarts SF have been more than 5 years and they are good as new.

I can't agree. As an important collector, I run into way too many issues with the imports than I do with domestic

@@pest174in a thrift toy store, how many Marvel Legends do you see in a box with wobbly and sticky plastics... just a couple of hundred. And how many of these imports do you see in the same box? 😊

@@momo.ru-kunI don’t think your average kid is buying import action figures. Reason why there’s only retail figures at Goodwill 😂

I have a few Mezco and 3rd party imports, and a few weeks ago/last month I came to the realization I did not enjoy cloth figures nearly as much compared to some normal plastic sculpted figures, while cloth figures look great I find the cloth goods tedious to deal with when posing figures, the cloth creates a discouraging experience for me personally. I will still get figures with cloth, but moving forward, I plan to really pick and choose more based on my needs. Price was also a factor, especially when I find cloth figures less enjoyable most of the time because I'm worried about tearing the cloth goods just trying to pose a figure, and that does not feel great when you payed more for what should be a premium figure.
