Live music needed someone arrogant and uplifting like oasis. Nirvana were amazing but the suicide depression thing was getting contagious with kids. Songs like live forever and supersonic were absolutely needed for the time they came out
Nirvana and Oasis are both great bands in my book so it's not a one or the other situation for me, sometimes I'm more in the mood for Nirvana, sometimes I'm in the mood for Oasis and sometimes I can quite happily listen to both. Great music comes from all kinds of different personalities and from different people with different experiences of life. Sure, people have their preferences of course but theirs no set way or set manual you have to follow if you make music. The idea that you HAVE to make happy music or you HAVE to make sad music is stupid and an incredibly limited way of viewing what music is, which is an expression of what the person who is writing it and playing it is thinking, feeling and trying to say.
I think people don’t get Noel’s dryness, he’s funny and the bravado comes with the territory when you’re from working class Manchester but there’s a legit genuineness to him - he doesn’t care if he’s liked or not but it’s clear he has a good heart.
Bit of a late comment, but I agree he does have a good heart and cares the tone of his voice when he talks about fans. He just has views and sticks by them and rarely changes them. Yes really confident in himself but why shouldn't he be it's a good thing imo
REEL REALITY, I have to say , when the words "When I was in the South of France with Bono" actually came out of his mouth I laughed so loudly....did he really say those words, the eternal code words for pretentious snobbery? I always liked Noel but he is very confusing these days.
@REEL REALITY, ty for reply. Some tunes are ok, but the cringe factor is there. Liam IS doing so well, and has emerged as the older version of the very naive boy who was there at the start...mouthy but not malicious. Because of the flurry of Gallagher activity, and because I'm seeing Liam in Australia in December, I've been looking at old interviews from when they first appeared, to see what the dynamic was back then. Frankly what has happened was written in what they said then. Noel was calculating, intended Oasis to last only as long as it suited him, bossy, called the songs and group 'his', and although he was also funny and warm, he was so lethally condescending to Liam that even interviewers were stunned. Liam was very trusting, expected Oasis to last forever, lived in an r'n'r fantasy, and certainly thought they were in it together forever. The most galling thing is Noel criticises Liam for all the things he also did...drugs, drink, terrible violence, ( cricket bat anyone?), as if he wasn't as bad😜 Anyway yes Liam's stuff is cracking and if he didn't do any Oasis in December I'd be fine, happy to see him live and hear the new stuff. 😍
Thanks for posting this! I remember watching this on MTV back when I was high school. Fell in love with Oasis after watching it and never looked back (in anger or otherwise).
Allot of very relevant contemporary rock music tries to sound in the same vein as oasis, in some regards ... it’s just not pushed by record labels as much, because there is a grand conspiracy to dumb down the youth into materialism with rap music
