    Hi i saw lots of your videos about bettas and breeding them. If you love wild bettas i recommend that you should try and get betta livida, betta persephone or both. They are currently endemic and almost extinct in the wild. Maybe you can help save them from extinction while showing other people about the beauty of wild bettas.

    I use lights like that they are great they get to hot though when facing straight down they aren't designed for that I've added extra heat sinks big ones from old Pc's and using a curved diffuser helps spread the light evenly over a larger aria

    • @KeepingFishSimple
      @KeepingFishSimple  3 года назад +1

      They get a little hot but good for keeping room warm

    • @colinhamer6506
      @colinhamer6506 3 года назад

      @@KeepingFishSimple yes they will but they won't last very long heat is what kills LEDs this style was designed to be angled so the rising heat moves air over the cooling fins and the same happens with the heat on the glass when you point them straight down they can't use air flow to cool themselves if you add a big heat sink they should last for years and even though they are cooler the same amount of heat energy will be released into the room

    Nice video! Its astonishing how you can manage the fishroom and do uni at the same time. Hahaha

  • @grenwood6551
    @grenwood6551 3 года назад

    Generally cheaper to heat the room. One or two decent space heaters and maybe some plastic sheeting/curtains near entryways windows etc to cut down on drafts. Basicly my plan for my canadian basement room once I get more tanks. Also less worry over a heater going out.

    • @KeepingFishSimple
      @KeepingFishSimple  3 года назад

      Yes it’s heated but the problem is the hot air rises and makes only the top tanks warm

    • @grenwood6551
      @grenwood6551 3 года назад

      That does make it more tricky .. other than raiseing the overall room temp you can try to arrange who likes/tolerates lower temps better on lower shelves. So I have to agree with adding a few individual heaters to needed tanks. It is likly I will have both going in the coldest months if the year rip power bill

    Thanks for the extensive tour. I may have missed your comments on it previously, but now that you've been up and running for a little while, how is the ambient heat in your "fish room" controlled? Where you are at, I'm sure that the rooms must be hard to keep the temperatures down. I'm curious.

    Hey Nick, could you do a video on which fish you can have in the same tank that will breed and not disturb each other. For example a pair of angels and a certain pleco/bristlenose and/or a certain corydora

    • @KeepingFishSimple
      @KeepingFishSimple  3 года назад +1

      Hey Blake, I'll probably include a segment in a vlog or something but some of my favourites are.
      - Angelfish and bristlenose
      - Discus and bristlenose
      - Rainbowfish and plecos (sometimes too hot for rainbows but they survive)
      - Shrimp and plecos (some shrimp get eaten)
      I haven't tried many more yet but am still experimenting. If you do any of these it will obviously be sometimes slightly less productive compared to if you did the species solo.

    I like to mix up the feeding also, I only have 2 tanks but I feed a mix of flake, tetra mini granule, a small brown pellet food, tetra pro colour crisps, freeze dried daphnia, small algae and shrimp wafers and normal algae wafers. I usually give 2 or 3 types of food each day then once per week or twice I only feed frozen which I split between the two so they get a half cube of blood worm and half cube of mosquito larvae. I tried other frozen food also but find artemia and daphnia a bit messy.
