Kelpies are amazing dogs - smart, energetic but have strong personalities and minds that need to be engaged - not for everyone - but in my opinion the best breed!
If you're considering purchasing a Kelpie, it's important to understand that this breed requires a significant amount of mental and physical stimulation. Kelpies are highly intelligent and energetic working dogs, originally bred for herding sheep in tough conditions. Without enough exercise or tasks to keep them occupied, they can become bored and develop behavioral issues, such as excessive barking, chewing, or digging. These dogs thrive on having a job to do, so if you don’t have the time or space to dedicate to their needs, they may not be the best fit for your household. Kelpies are best suited to active individuals, farmers, or those who can provide them with ample opportunity to run, work, and play. They are loyal and hard-working companions, but their drive and energy level can be overwhelming for an unprepared owner. Make sure you’re ready for the commitment!
Australian Kelpies likely have some dingo ancestry from early breeding, but the amount is minimal and varies by individual, diluted over generations of selective breeding.
