The original crow made you feel the emotions Eric Draven was feeling...I doubt this new reboot can give people that same feeling.

Seems like more of an action movie than the first with the emotional and dramatic aspect. Especially the death scenes in this don’t look like they will have the same impact. Totally understandable point here.

I'm guessing people are upset with the fact that The Eric Draven's story is being re-imagined and in their minds they consider that a NO-NO due to the fact that brandon lee did such a wonderful portrayal of the character; add to the fact that he died while making the movie and that just makes the role even more precious and iconic to the point where they feel it shouldn't be recasted with anyone, kind of like what they did with Chadwick Boseman's character BLACK PANTHER and to a degree I understand that and also to a degree I do believe certain roles played to legendary perfection shouldn't be touch if you're not going to stick to the material and get the right type of actor to play them, they had other characters from the comics that would have been awesome to adapt to the movie who have taken up the mantle of the crow that were just as compelling and complex as draven was, having said that I'm not going to make any assumptions about the film until I've seen it for myself, just going to hope for the best and that they pay some kind of respectful tribute to the original! 😉😁👍

If you want to know why people are not exactly pleased with this movie even existing in the first place, it's because A) Brandon Lee died while making the film and many people feel that should be sacrosanct when it comes to even thinking about making another Crow movie and B) this movie is such a severe departure from both the first film and comic that it's rather insulting to be calling this a "reboot" or "reimaging" (which by the way no one wanted). Both the original movie and film were a dark, gritty, street-level story about Eric returning from the dead to exact vengeance upon those who killed him while also going through the mental torture of coming to grips with what happened to them. The comic was about them literally being the victims of completely random acts of violence and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The film implies that maybe Top Dollar sent T-Bird and his crew after them because Shelly wrote the landlord a letter complaining about the poor condition of the apartment building, but that's really only hinted at and it's more likely they were just random victims of Devil's Night.
This re-imagining is making the bad guys some big, wealthy, corpo-conglomorate-esque group who killed Eric and Shelly to try and cover up something Shelly saw. That's not the story of Eric and Shelly. They're also making Eric and Shelly junkies (or former junkies) and that's how they met. Again, this wildly deviates from both the comic and the movie, where it doesn't matter how they met, all we as the audience needed to know is they were in love and that love was taken from them with their deaths. Eric and Shelly were both also completely normal people. There was no "dark past", no being "broken" before, they were just completely normal people who had the misfortune of running afoul of a thrill kill gang. THAT is what made the story so compelling, that this could happen to anyone because it was literally just bad luck.
I can and have before gone so much more into why this reboot is just every shade of wrong, but I know people will start complaining about it. The fact is, this probably would have been just fine as another Crow movie with completely new characters, which has been done with Crow films in the past, but Hollywood decided they had to use Eric and Shelly's story. Sorry, not use, completely bastardize and stomp the legacy of Brandon Lee's film and the original comic into the dirt. It's honestly to be expected at this point because no one in Hollywood can come up with anything original and they have to defile the greater works that came before them in order to try and stay relevant.
The people in Hollywood are nothing but talentless hacks and thieves now and we see them.

    • @WendeezyManCave101Podcast
      @WendeezyManCave101Podcast 4 месяца назад +1

Top Dollar did order the building to be cleared, T-Bird had the letter when they went to the apartment and when Albrecht is talkig to Annabella in the station after she gave him the case file she says "she was trying to fight tenant eviction in that neigborhood?" It was anything but random...c'mon man.
Junkies or clean cut kids what does it matter. The main focus as you stated is they were in love and then their lives violently ended. The main part of that is the love they shared and how it ended. It's storytelling and each time the story is told certain details change, but as long and the love part survies what difference does it make. We review plenty of content on this channel that is adapted from great source material and it's almost never a 1 to 1 adaptation. Hollywood man.
but to think that if and when a remake is done it is automatically tarnishing the legacy of what came before is not totally fair. The Crow is on constant play in my home and if anyone ever says they never saw it it gets put on immediately. I'm a fan. The first look at this film, the thought was it's trash, but now it looks to be better. It's acutally a re-imagining of the story fit into todays world and not so much a reboot.
Brandon Lee will always be Eric Draven, just like Nicholson will always be Joker. That's not to say Ledger is trash or Joaquin is garbage. Bill has a shot to be his version of the Crow and it looks to be a good shot so far. Until the movie releases I must sit with eager anticipation.
On this point I do agree, Hollywood needs to get back to the good drugs and create more orignal content or look for the overlooked stories out there and make a good adaptation of them just like the Crow in 1994.
....it can't rain all the time.

@@WendeezyManCave101Podcast if the remake was done in a way that was respectful to the original, such as they adhered closer to the original source comic and included things in the remake that were not done in the Brandon Lee movie, such as delving further into those scenes in the comic where Eric is alone and grappling with the loss, sadness, mourning, and madness of what happened to him, I wouldn't complain.
In fact, I think Skarsgard is an excellent choice to play Eric. He has the height, the lean, sinewiness that Eric had... and then they decided to give him a high and tight haircut and tattoos out the ass in the style of Post Malone. Plus, from the trailer, I'm not even sure he dons the harlequin-style facepaint until the last half or third of the movie, which is almost criminal with a Crow film. Also, as I mentioned in my original post, turning Eric and Shelly into junkies is not "re-imagining" the characters, it is flat out destroying them.
I said it before, the entire purpose of why the original stories were so compelling is that Eric and Shelly didn't have some kind of baggage like being drug addicts or having some dark past, they were two perfectly normal people in love and that's what made their deaths so tragic in the first place. What's more, another reviewer said it best when they said their deaths, while of course tragic by default because they were killed, don't look like they have anywhere near the punch that the originals did. From what we're seeing from the trailer, and yes there could be more that we're not seeing, both of them are killed via asphyxiation and... that's it? Sad, yes, but not something "so bad that the crow brings that soul back" kind of bad. In the originals, Shelly was tortured, raped, and murdered all right in front of Eric before he was killed himself. THAT is trauma and a damn good reason for the crow to bring Eric back because "something so bad" happened, and all the more reason why when he does come back he's tormented by what happened to the point he loses himself within ice-cold rage and madness.
I know at this point I'm pretty much repeating what I said in my original post but I will just say again, had this just been another Crow story, with a completely original cast of characters instead of doing what looks like a horrible job of "retelling" Eric and Shelly's story, I wouldn't have any issue with it and might actually be interested in seeing it. But because Hollywood has this disturbing obsession with "reimagining" classic iconic characters for the absolute worst reasons and with the absolute worst results, the only emotion this movie is eliciting from me is anger and disgust and a powerful urge never to see it.

I was 19 in 1994 and walked out the theater knowing I had seen greatness. Brandons portrayal is a masterpiece... that being said it is the creation of James OBarrs mind and heart that gives the character life. Since OBarr and Ed Pressman had to sign off on this to make it happen and the brilliance of Skaarsgard as an actor says we should give it a chance. In 1988 I left Batman thinking Nicholson just retired the Joker...well Ledger and Phoenix were able to respectfully give new life and direction into an existing comic book character... same for Keaton and then Bale as Batman.. point is we should give it a chance to stand on its own merit against the source material not against Brandons greatness... people wanna say its a John Wick ripoff lol then youtube "The Crow Top Dollars Place"... 1994 Crow was Wick before Wick.. that sequence with gun battle, sword fighting and hand to hand can be inserted into any Wick movie...

    • @emberparadox458
      @emberparadox458 4 месяца назад +1

@@kenslizle First I just want to say, just because O'Barr "signed off" on the film doesn't mean it's respectful to the originals. People gotta make money and who knows how much O'Barr was paid. There have been numerous "re-tellings" of stories in the past that the original author signed-off on that ended up being horrible.
I think I mentioned it before but I do think Bill Skarsgard 100% has the acting chops to be able to pull off the character of Eric... if he's given a decent script to work with. Bear in mind here at no point am I pointing any accusatory fingers at the actor because I honestly feel like this is going to be a wasted opportunity. You reference other films like Keaton and Nicholson in Batman and Ledger and Phoenix in their respective Joker roles. The difference there is that with all of them, people were concerned/criticized the choice of actor for the role (prior to them seeing the film), not the characterizations themselves. Batam still looked and acted like Batman, albeit a black suit instead of a dark blue, and his history remained, and Joker still looked like and acted like Joker, with a bit more for Phoenix because it was an origin story. With The Crow, they are completely changing the story and the characters simply because they are trying to force a "modern audience" narrative onto the audience because that's all Hollywood knows how to do now.
As far as the gunfight at Top Dollar's in the movie, it was a more Hollywoodized version of it but that gunfight happened in the comic as well. The rest of Eric's kills, both in the film and the comic, were very one-on-one personal events and didn't have big action set pieces like what they're showing us in the trailer. While the 94 film certainly didn't follow the comic beat for beat, it still adhered to the pacing and style of the original comic in a way that even fans of the comic loved it.
As I said in my original post, if whomever was behind the scenes on this film had chosen to make this just another story in the Crow universe, with original characters, it would be a much different story and likely received much more positively. It's the fact that Hollywood is basically shitting all over the characters of Eric and Shelly by "modernizing" them and the story, just like Hollywood has been doing with legacy franchises and properties for the last 10 years or so.

Bill is a fantastic actor and looks gorgeous, so I would be very excided about this movie (it would be better if it was a diferent Crow not Draven but nevermind) if they didn't make it look so awful. The whole thing looks very soulless and plain, like an ordinary action movie + the make up. The Crow is not about that. And Bill with this horrible tattoes and hair... Why did they do that? He could have been a wonderful Crow with his looks and acting skills. It's such a shame. Maybe the movie will be way better then the trailer and surprise us all.

They don't know who their audience is and they don't know that it wasn't just Lee that made the 90's movie raise the bar in comic adaptations. Look at all the Jokers, everyone makes comparisons no matter how good the actor is. Jared Leto's version got tons of heat because it was bad even if we let him do "his own thing." Are you going on all recent movie reboot recasting videos and telling people to stop comparing just because you don't like their opinions on it? Seems to be right now, if a majority dislike something, the other side immediately retreats to everyone bandwagoning even if they give valid points of criticism. Once they named this character Eric Draven, they opened the floodgates on themselves. We'll see how it does, expect the same as every other soulless reboot that gets regurgitated.

Honestly I'm very very very impressed with what they've put together it seems like Rupert Sanders really knows what he's doing, when talking about the creative process of the film he said " what happened to Brandon Lee such a tragedy and his presence was very much felt on set, we aren't trying to deminish or tarnish his memory or his legacy in anyway we hope he's proud of what we've done". When I heard the movie was no longer going to be an adaptation of the graphic novel and instead were going to do their own thing I was very worried and very skeptical, but Rupert Sanders KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with this trailer he might as well be saying no no no we know what we're doing😂 we're gonna do right by you, usually I'm totally against modernizing classics because they usually end up hiring people who couldn't give a shit about the source material or the fans. Usually they end up going with something that they just pulled out of their asses and they very easily could have done that with this but they didn't, it seems like they are genuinely trying to modernize the story while still staying true to the general feel and tone of the original story you even have some call backs to the original movie in there. I'm blown away completely! THIS IS how you modernize a beloved story

A lot of people don't know this but the reason the crow was made is because of the festivals in Washington & los angeles & new york use to have and how much corruption in the police force and underworld of criminal activity really was and still kinda is today. Right now, i am already writing reboot 2nd script.
My idea-- main character is a musician who retires to find his missing cousin which the trail leads back to his manager who has him killed on the train tracks so the manager could still use his cousin to amp up the band members hes childhood friends with. My goal is to open The Crow(s) to the marvel universe.

Secondly, I'm sorry but I just don't like this trailer. It looks like a generic action movie but with a bit more graphic violence. It has the setpiece finale, the John Wick action, the blue color scheme with overly saturated color timing to hide lack of production value, the cringey generic lines... It's not good. I just feel like this is all crap I've seen already. "I feel like you're my person." That's original. And sorry but "I thought you were quite brilliantly broken" is some cringe edgelord crap an angsty teenager would say. "What did you like about me?" "I thought you were an F'ing mess." Oh. Well. That's charming. I would break up with someone if I got that line. Like that is not a compliment AT ALL. I'm just not expecting much here

This lacks the soul of the original. I'm not one of these purists who say "never remake that," because it can be done. FF7 was my favorite game and story, and the remake has been really excellent. The Crow (1994) is my favorite film of all time, yet it could be successfully redone. But not like this. This is the vision of somebody who did not understand the original, someone who looked at it and said "wouldn't it be great if a movie was thematically this, but substantively a cross between John Wick and Mortal Kombat, starring Channing Tatum or a near clone?" Nope, that wouldn't be great. You didn't get the original. Develop a deep sense of empathy and then re-watch 1994, before trying to reboot, remake, or re-imagine it, people.
There's no contrast shown in this reboot. There's not the innocence of a child in Sarah, against this menacing, dark city. There's not the humanity of Eric and Officer Albrecht against both the inhumanity of what's left of Eric, what he is now, what he must do, as well as of the evil people he has to pursue. There's not Eric's melancholy along with his anger. There's no artfulness to him. There's no quiet to accompany his wailing. Based on the trailer, this doesn't appear to tap into the same emotional space the original did. It wasn't just a hot couple pissed off because their time was cut short and they were too sexy to die. Just saying "love" a bunch of times against a backdrop of a gory action flick with no art or irony doesn't reach the high bar set by "The Crow."
The makeup. This isn't a random face decoration, I mean the thespian masks of comedy and tragedy were hanging from the mirror, Eric painted his face deliberately as an actor (double entendre) who would be delivering some irony (the undead monster is the righteous hero, the humans are the evil villains; he brings fear to the frightening; brings to each their own vice, and murders the murderers).
So the makeup isn't just a superficial thing, where like hey, this is a cool drippy eyes thing, it's not just a franchise symbol, it actually signified something, and this new one only vanishingly represents it a teeny bit. It's barely there anymore. The face paint would have been the easiest way to get a real chill into the audience, if it had been on point. But no, they missed the lay-up (and mostly everything else, from the look of it).
Elaborating on a prior point here, but in the 1994 film, Eric and the Crow's violence isn't random at all. The knife guy is killed with his knives, funboy is killed with his playthings, the pyromaniac is killed with his fire, the speed freak dies at terminal velocity while falling from a building, the woman who steals eyes and wants the crows power has her eyes taken by the crow (before falling to her death) and the mastermind of all that pain dies from feeling all the protracted pain he had caused all at once (plus, some extra impaling because why not).
Why does it matter? Because in 1994's "The Crow" the violence is just an extra dimension of the turmoil, it's secondary to the emotions. He finds each of them in their own domain, and shoves their vice right down their throat, so they can suffer from it just as everyone else has. In this trailer, the emotions are secondary to the violence, which is the main thing.
They needed to pay more attention to the subtleties, the details. "Believe me. Nothing is trivial."

    3. It seems soulless.

When I see this trailer after I’ve watched it about 12 times I think the part I’m most intrigued about is the inevitable murder scene with the two of them. I feel this take on the Crow gives more of an in depth back story of them both before you know…. I feel that murder scene must be something extra disturbing

I personally don't give a damn how good of an actor Bill Skarsgard is and has been...some people aren't right for certain characters plain and simple. Bill is to tall for one, Brandon was 6 ft and lean which helped with stealth for the character. Bill looks like Machine Gun Kelly and sounds like Pennywise in this 😅😂

I don’t care about his height so much. But, he’s too buff for revenant, imo. And, even the best actor can’t do much with bad dialogue.

It’s LOOKS TRASH PERIOD!!!! It doesn’t look good from the cinematography to the color grading choices to everything else 🤦🏽‍♂️ compared to the original film and the fact that this is a retelling of the original and comic book it doesn’t look like it fits the vision of either. Worst this IP was built by Goth kids who they look like they have alienated in this version compared to the original.

But it is a "reimagining" not a "remake"...Totally appreciate and get your point on it not being the original, but maybe it doesn't have to be. It is a 2024 version. Personally (Aaron) I haven't read the comics or watched the OG...I will be doing a "first time watching" for the channel in the near future so I can better understand people being up in arms about the remake...These other guys have and love the OG

The only thing I see in this reboot is it's screaming "trying too hard", and hell, the violence is lame

I don’t mind them doing a new adaptation of the original graphic novel, but this looks really generic. It also has some of the worst dialogue, and delivery of said dialogue, I’ve ever heard.
Oh, and it bugs me that he’s so buff. That’s typical superhero stuff, and it doesn’t say revenant.

This is HORRIBLE!!!!! I tried to not watch the trailer and even though I feel Bill would pull it off much better than the other suggestions for the remake I have seen through out the years. I absolutely DO NOT like the look of the new look. The appearance alone has ruined it. But they will make money on it because people will want to reluctantly see it to compare it and by then, the film makers will be happy with its attendance. But I won't see it till its on a streaming channel or where I don't have to pay to see it outright. The trailer is extremely disappointing. It hurts my heart. This is nothing more than a vigilante movie who has supernatural powers.
There is too much color. The Gotham City appearance and shadow work like with the original is not there. Even the Crow 2 had better cinema elements for viewing pleasure than this new thing. I really like Bill but this has been ruined. The original had a hard anti-drugs message. The new one casts Eric & Shelly as junkies who escape rehab, go on a drug bringe & are eventually murdered. That tells you everything you need to know about what's wrong with the new film. For this remake to turn Eric 180-degrees on that mark is tantamount to blasphemy.

Almost subbed... then y'all started praising the Pigeon. Not true to the comic, movie, show or spirit of the indigenous lore.
Waste of money, time & effort
    This movie will tank hard.
R.I.P. Brandon, sorry you're getting disrespected like this.

No atmosphere at all just a generic action movie, I thought this one was going to follow the graphic novel more closely but it looks to do neither
