Maytag Bravos Washer Review (MVWX655DW)-High Efficiency And Top Loading

  • This is a review of a Maytag Bravos washer. The model number of the washer is MVWX655DW. It is an awesome top-loading high efficiency washer that has a ton of great features. I have used this washer for a while and have been absolutely happy with its performance. I thought that a washer without an agitator would not wash the clothes as well as one with an agitator; however, I was very wrong. This Maytag Bravos washer doesn't have an agitator protruding from the middle of the drum and it washes the clothes really well!

    The lid being a window is great for being able to watching your clothes literally sit at the top and never get wet the entire wash cycle. Worst washer (I don’t even think they should be able to claim it’s a washer) in the world!

  • @scottandrus5677

    I cant believe more people arent complaining how long to do a wash cycle. Takes at least 70-80 min I believe on ours. It takes longer to wash than the dryer does to dry.. Thats crazy! Saves on water maybe but uses more electricity by far than our old one. High efficiency my a** !

    I have one.....P.O.S.
    Looks good, performance sucks. Stick with a corkscrew agitator and simple controls. This machine does what it wants not what the controls say. It doesn't agitate the clothes during the cycle. It rubs the clothes on the bottom with very little water. I'm very unhappy with this Maytag.

    Just purchased this washer... I was very skeptical at first due to all the negative comments...I read the manual and followed instructions & my clothes came out pretty clean...Cons: it is a bit noisy & takes longer to wash than my old whirlpool, but these things don’t worry me at all... My main concern was that my clothes came out clean... I washed a large comforter on bulky/sheet cycle & was pretty impressed...So far so good..

    Wish we had researched this model more and seen responses such as these before we made the mistake of buying this Maytag model. Agree that it is very poorly if not defectively designed. Noble intention but faulty execution. Absolutely terrible results -- nothing gets clean on any setting at any temperature, even when you wash so few items they are barely covering the bottom of the drum. Ironically, Maytag blew us off and said that is how the machine is designed and it was functioning properly.

    I think the majority of complaints are from people who haven't read the manual, or do not know how to do laundry...or both! I love this machine! It works like a dream and can wash huge comforters which saves me a trip to the laundromat. I was skeptical about the level of water when I first stood there and watched the entire wash cycle, but amazingly it cleans everything quite well!

    I wish I knew this before we bought ours in 2017!!! THIS IS THE EXACT MACHINE WE BOUGHT AND IT SUCKS!!! Our spin cycle doesn't work!!! The agitator spins but not the tub so the clothes gets wrapped around into a ball and on one side of the machine!!! I had a Maytag that lasted 15 years before we bought this one. DO NOT BUY THE BRAVO MAYTAG MCT. It will cost just as much for the repairs than if I went out and bought a new washer. 600.00 pissed away in 3 years. They should be ashamed of themselves to put this garbage on the market!! ps MAYTAG is not the problem its the dumb as partner BRAVO that put their garbage parts on a well known brand!

    Here's an idea:
    Take $700+ dollars. Drop the money in the bottom of a large bucket. Pour in 10oz of water and 5 oz of window cleaner. Hug the bucket and twist your body left and right for 30 minutes.
    Dump the soapy water and hard earned money down the toilet.

    This went out after 3 years. I now have to buy a new one because it is too expensive to repair. It won't agitate or spin fast to clean and it leaves the clothes soiled. When I select the drain and spin it actually will rinse and barely spin which leaves the clothes even more drenched. I wish I had invested in a better washer.

    I’ve had one like this one but mine is dark grey for 12 years. I hate that it uses so little water and sometimes stains don’t get removed the way that I would like. I hate that it takes an hour or more to do one load. But, it has been rock solid faithful for these 12 years but I’ve decided to go back to an old school agitator washer with a Speed Queen. I haven’t ever been totally satisfied with this machine but it has performed pretty great for me these 12 years with no problems except at the very first with a motherboard problem that the tech fixed without having to replace the whole board. The government should really keep their asses out of things like washing machines so we can have the ones that use enough water to truly clean clothing.

    After four years of residential use by a family of four our Maytag Bravos washer had an unacceptable failure of transmission part # W11035751 due to poor design. The output shaft that drives the tub and agitator is unprotected from corrosion and is submersed in each wash cycle and subsequently designed to fail. This preventable failure could be prevented by the designer by plating the shaft or constructing it of stainless, but then they would sell less washers. The transmission purchased on E-bay was half the price than if purchased from Maytag and worked wonderfully but has the same issue. The only thing I could do on the replacement transmission to slow the corrosion is to paint the shaft then coat with silicone during assembly. I know this will make disassembly more difficult in the future, but it is the only option I have as grease may not be used inside the wash tub. The other issue of concern was the build up of a quarter inch of mud under the agitator and around the wash tub despite the regular use of the proper cleaning products to periodically flush the washer. My expectation of Maytag products was one of quality design but after seeing this failure in a relatively short period of time, my expectation has changed greatly!

    I don't understand all of these negative reviews.
    We didn't like the little amount of water so we wash on deep water wash every time
    If you don't like the low water levels you just put it on Deep Water Wash and if you really have dirty clothes set the soil level to heavy and set the setting to bulky.
    If you want it to rinse better select extra rinse. Or rise and spin after if you're obsessed.
    Do people not know how to use settings on washing machines??
    And this thing spins like 20 times (which is why the cycle is so long)
    NO WAY those clothes aren't dry.
    And we put ALOT of clothes in ours
    It has a ten year warranty on the barrel and wash engine...so not sure what people mean by "it stopped working"....
    We've had this for 5 years and never had one problem.

    I know this machine and this video came out 5 years ago, but I'll tell you what the salesman told me. If you are someone that works hard at an outside job and your clothes get super dirty, you've got kids that play sports or something and have super dirty cloths, etc., this machine isn't for you. You need a machine with a central agitator. This machine is for someone like me that works an office job, my clothes aren't all that dirty to begin with...they come out clean in the most efficient way possible.

    Been using a Maytag Bravos series washer for over 13 years now and have never had any of the problems you talk about below....I will definitely replace this one with another one. The clothes are clean and the water usage and soap is so much less. For those that are saying they don't wash right, you are washing full loads aren't you. Less soap too so you don't get soap residue.

    We moved from VA to FL and bought the same model on September 2020. My husband bought it because we had no other option due to the pandemic. I don’t like one bit. You get a “big drum”, what for? Because the “deep water wash” doesn’t add much water to a big load of clothes. I have to do small loads and I have to keep an eye on the water level because it doesn’t seem like is enough. The machine cycles takes longer than my previous washer. We have the machine dryer and is a disappointment also. This purchase was a of money.

      Cadon Barton, I haven’t used the front loader before. I always have a top loader with agitator. What makes a front loader better than a top loader ?

    • @cadonbarton5690
      @cadonbarton5690 5 лет назад +1

      @@tdhtran That is an excellent question. Front loaders use less water, use less electricity, hold a lot more clothes with the best stain removal, and they spin much faster than top loaders, saving the electric bill for the dryer. Example, a normal load of laundry in a top loader with out an agitator is approximately 45 minutes to an hour and ten minutes, and it would take about an hour or more to dry. In a front loader, you can wash a full normal load of laundry between 30 and 48 minutes, and it would take about 30 to 55 minutes to dry. I have a HE front loader and a HE top loader and I get the best cleaning results from my front loader. Top loaders with an agitator take about 30 minutes to wash and an hour+ to dry. LG makes some the best front loaders out there, that being I cannot wait to upgrade my front loader from '04 to something newer!

  • @MartinIDavies
    @MartinIDavies 5 лет назад +3

    its my understanding that the difference between the old agitator machines and high efficiency ones like this one is that the prime cleaning methods are different..
    the old agitators use the physical movement of the central agitator to rub against the clothes while the HE machine uses the chemistry of the HE detergent to do the cleaning hence there is no need for a central agitator... this frees up washing volume and uses much less water.. this has enabled me to wash king size comforters and all my furniture cushions (one at a time with extra spins)
    it's been my experience if you load the HE machine as instructed.. small bundles around the edges not wrapped around the center the machine works fine.. and, given its chemicals of the detergent I always use the extra rinse cycle...
    I have been very satisfied with this machine and would recommend it to anyone needing to purchase a new or replacement washing machine
    thanks for posting.. how about a vid showing a wash from start to finish..

    I have this machine and would like to know what the length of time is for the rinse cycles? It's not mentioned anywhere in the manual and I've never hung around while it's going through the cycles to measure the time. I'm an RN and am using Lysol laundry sanitizer, a precious commodity these days, for my work clothes and any other laundry that needs to be sanitized. For the Lysol to be effective, it has to be used in the rinse cycle, which must last at least 16 minutes. Is there any way to adjust the settings to make the rinse cycle last that long? I only use the deep wash or bulky/sheets cycles to get enough water in the tub for all of my laundry. If I had my old agitator washer, that I still dearly miss, I could stop the machine during the rinse cycle for any length of time needed. Thanks for any suggestions.

    • @CeciliaHennessy
      @CeciliaHennessy 4 года назад

      All I can tell you is that sometimes the cycle would continue for 4 hours. I'm not kidding. I hang laundry on the line in summer so I kept checking for it to be done and it never was. It was refilling itself constantly and attempting to spin the clothes evenly I think, not sure what its issue was. I bought a 1980's machine off Craigslist for $50 and it's been working like a champ. This POS just gathers dust in the basement. Sure looks pretty lol.

    • @PrestonMoser
      @PrestonMoser 3 года назад +1

      Melissa my advice is run your load normally with laundry detergent, then run the load a second time substituting sanitizer for detergent. The wash cycle is the longest so the second time you run you will get good disinfectant action and plenty of rinse. Nurses can't be too careful these days. :-) P.S. Thanks for being on the front line and keeping us safe.

    I came across this model on sale. Looking over reviews, about 75% of the owners would recommend it. So I bought it. My first load was light and ran great. (Note: I think Deep Water Cycle is going to be used a lot.) But trying out the "Bulky/Sheets" mode, which fills the tub with water producing maximum load on the impeller, sounded like the gears were stripping out. It happens. You occasionally get a bad one. It was confirmed this was not a normal sound. So if you buy one of these and want to make sure it is mechanical sound, run both normal and "Bulky/Sheets" mode. The sound of the mechanical action should have little difference. between the two.
