with other words you like singers their voices stick in the throat?- its called: inglotta and not good at all. For singing with squillo you need a a shine though.
I finally learn to open my mouth so loud to sing the high note. It is like I am going to bite somebody LOL. I used to feel shy to open my mouth to sing in public, but now I am used to it.
actually she is a dramatic soprano who used to sing her whole career as a mezzo- fair enough because she had a very good low voice. BUT: Her nature is soprano.
I just don't know why Zajick encourages spreading the mouth. She didn't do that. Wide mouth singing is wrong. Long mouth, but not wide is the right way to sing. Spreading the mouth like a big smile makes the sound edgy and thin. It closes the pharyngeal space. Only the greatest singers adhered to this. Nilsson never spread her mouth. Nor did Caballe.
That lesson was awesome, dont know wath this project is but seems like a masterclass. And she taught many great things, very pratical, sometimes masterclasses arent worth the money and all that.. a singer that has her voice fresh all these years sure knows technique that makes you survive and shine
Sylvia Maisonet yeah i think i'll second that. lol i had one teacher that would talk about this. Well first, for me, i create some tensions. But in certain ocasions, i think it can be used. It also depends on the physiognomy of the person. I just think that the singer keeping a healthy and "in shape" voice is a good detector of what to do for longevety. I thank you for sharing your wisdom, it was quite informative. I had no idea her voice was that small...lol
Everyone knows?... like what you're saying is an absolute truth. Well, I completely disagree with you both. She's not saying to spread the sound. What she wants is more space which obviouss the student doesn't have and when she does it, you can hear it in the sound. It was clearer, more head and high placement, lighter and more overtones besides been completely natural. Nobody speaks high only dropping their jaws.
Do you have the whole lessons recording? I would love to hear it again.. I am Guanqun.. This seems too little about that lesson... Thank you very muh..
Yes! I love that she's teaching them to sing youthfully and with forward placement. That's really important for flexibility and, frankly, longevity. :-)
Joshua Green I don’t think she’s teaching them to sing with placement. I think she’s teaching them to sing wide. However, I do think she’s teaching them to sing with flexibility.
So we have Zajick counseling singers to open their mouth. This is Jan. 2019; up until a couple of years ago, Zajick was my go-to Amneris, Adalgisa, and Azucena. But -- guess what: This lady with the enormous voice started to sound like a little mouse in the octave from middle C to the C above, and she kept her mouth closed to sort of squeeze out the sound. IMO In her early years, whatever she was doing encouraged a vocal production that made her middle voice too heavy, so that the bottom overpowered that part of her range. Keeping one's mouth closed helps the upper "resonance", and that was her solution. As I said, I haven't heard her in person in a couple of years.
questa bravissima giovane donna aveva una voce meravigliosa del soprano lirico spinto. peccato che aveva scelta la strada del mezzosoprano. aveva una voce sublime del soprano drammatico. una Grande !
MrSkylark1 MrSkylark1 Bidu Sayao didn’t even dream of having a career of the magnitude and success as Ms. Zajick. Sorry to bring you the bad news. Dolora is considered the BEST mezzosoprano of this century so far if you didn’t know. Besides she’s obviously focusing on technique and voice production not style or interpretation as many modern teachers do. You may have the best dynamics and NEVER make a career.
As bel canto singing beginner, I don't think opening the mouth in such a big range is a good idea as it disperses the sound. I am just feeling lucky that I am having a good teacher now.
Resonance for bel canto in that high pitch should be using not only pharynx, but also head to maximise the relaxation of the whole upper body. The way demonstrated in the video applies too much tension on the throat, though it does create a strong pharynx resonance. Just a personal opinion regarding this as a bel canto beginner, open for criticising.
This is horrendous... So many people watching this video will get a bad impression. You should NEVER open your mouth sideways.. The tone loses its resonance and direction. There is no way you can sing over an orchestra with a mouth like that..
it's true. the point she was making re: vowel modification WAS true. the tilt of her head, though, is bad pedagogically. I say that with the caveat that IT worked for HER. So who the hell am i lol Same thing with Jessye Norman re: overextension of jaw and overworking of mouth. BUT it worked for her and she sang beautifully forever. rip

Contraltisdima is right, if she is a singer coach or not. its just bad and absolutely not helpful if the teacher does sing to show how to do it like DZ does. Its very dangerous that the students try to imitate the sound of the teacher and this is so bad since Every voice and every body is different. I can also see that Zajik who I appriciate very much as a singer, is showing of herself. Thats even worse...
@@vitabella6481 are you crazy? The teacher MUST know be able to demonstrate how it is done. Far too many teachers can't do it and say"oh I did it wrong now but you know how I mean" or they're old and can't do it anymore, so they should stop teaching.

Well Dolora is in the same league as a singer with Nilsson and Caballe. One of the greatest Mezzos ever; so she knows what she is talking about.
Exactly. This is painful to watch.
So confusing!! Isn't spreading the mouth wide like this exactly what an operatic singer is NOT TO EVER do?
