  • I share with you what I do to these guitars for my personal enjoyment, I started doing it a couple years ago with the satin finish on the previous '59 models, and I will always "Un-satin" mine.

I absolutely love mine. It's rapidly becoming my favourite guitar.

Since this video was done, I have aged all the hardware, created a foundation for a Gibson truss rod cover, and it will have a Gibson custom shop headstock logo soon, I also have aged my Ice Tea and switched out the pickups for Duncan '59 PAF's for the Jimmy Page #1 look, double blck in the bridge and nickel cover in the neck, both guitars look very cool, I also did my Greeny, a work in progress. I did other things , like shape the nut like the custom shop guitars, and did the fret edges a bit more smooth and slightly gave the entire neck a smidge more rounded edges. I put a lot of time in them , a labor of love.

I finally found a local certified luthier- fairly young in his late 30s with 19 years of experience, now works from home. Honest and fair. He did a setup on my Epiphone IGC 1959 ES-355. I was very happy. So, I took my ($429) 2012 Honeyburst Epiphone Les Paul Standard for him to setup and work on, and did these - fret dress, bone nut, GraphTech graphite bridge saddles, premium wiring (CTS pots, Orange Drop caps, Switchcraft switch & output jack) and Gibson USA Burstbuckers 1 & 2. I couldn’t be happier. He is currently working on my 2012 Cherryburst Ace Frehley Les Paul 3 pickup Custom. My advice, Epiphone guitars are good decent guitars. In the hands of a good luthier, they can be great.

I too prefer gloss over matte and/or satin finish. Six (6) years ago, I started polishing 3 of my Masterbilt acoustic guitars to gloss. The process was strenuous as they are mostly done by hand to achieve that glass/mirror-like shine. But, the end result was well worth the effort as they stay high-gloss.

Sold a gibson LP Faded when i got the 2023 Epi 59 LP. Just like the Gibson, paid a luthier to crown and polish the frets. Once done, sold the gibson. Also, buffed the satin top on the Epi and it looks and plays great.

I have 4 of the older Epi 59 les Paul and I have put Gibson Custombuckers in 2 of them and those 2 guitars sound amazing . They already sounded great with Burstbuckers but the Custombuckers took them to a much higher level .
I'm going to leave 1 of the other 2 with the Stock Burstbuckers as the BB2 and BB3 are among my favorite pickups. They are great pickups for a down and dirty rock tone when you need a little more midrange and bit of extra compression .
For the fourth Epi 59 I have a Burstbucker 1 and a 57 classic plus laying around . The Burstbuckers will go in the neck and the Classic Plus will go in the bridge. I love the 57 Plus for the Bridge postion but have never any of the 57s in the neck slot even the weaker regular 57 ..
Not enough clarity and too much bass in the neck although I would like to try the underwound 57 classic in the neck but not enough to actually buy one at least not untill I get to hear one in a good demo.
The BB1 is a solid neck Pickup . It's bright and clear with nice clean tones .
I really like the clean tone of the 57 Plus in the bridge . It's got a really nice twang to it.
I nornally don't care for bridge Pickup clean tone but the 57 Plus is the exception. It's also a great and very versatile all around rock pickup. Does both vintage and modern very well and it strikes a great balance of being a quite thick fat and warm pickup while still having good clarity and treble bite . It sounds especially good with brighter amps like the Marshall DSL series .

Nice top, I bought the same guitar a few weeks ago, in Tobacco Burst. I polished the top and sides and it turned out great. Awesome guitar too.

I'm retired and I have free time, so a couple years ago, I started doing the hand rubbing to the tops on my '59 les pauls, all that other stuff like the nut work and action and intonation are things I've done for decades. I used to own a small town guitar store back in 1999-2001 (it didn't last because I couldn't carry famous brands because I was too close to other stores, but I did work on other peoples guitars all the time, that's where I really got it down.

I am quite sure you own many many things that are made in China or Asia whether you are aware of them or not! That's modern capitalism at its finest!

@@sidewaysrain7609 I'm not sure what you're saying, all I know is if I like something I don't care where it's made. I've had a couple US Gibsons that were crap to me, maybe I just got lemons, nevertheless, If I like a product I buy it, where it's made means nothing to me.

@@user-ks6up1vi5tForgive me. Don’t mean to take sides. But, looking at the thread, it appears that the post was not in response to your post. Like you, country of origin means nothing to me as long as they are legal. All 14 of my guitars are made in Korea, China and Indonesia.
