Thank you for watching! And thank you for all your comments, I love making videos for you all!
If you're new to Actualol, my name is Jon Purkis. My two passions are writing comedy and playing board games, so I decided to combine the two in this RUclips channel.
I make all my videos on my own, in my flat in London, UK, with the help of a diverse selection of wigs.

And I thought the toy factor of Forbidden Desert, with the air ship, was through the roof...
Um what about Chris Hemsworth?!?! The god of lightning!
Still a Great review!
There's been much anticipation for this game, and it would seem Matt Leacock has struck Thor-esk lightning with this one! As always your reviews are clear, to the point, hugely informative, most entertaining and therefore a pleasure to watch! I'm so happy to see you back on top form! Hats off for another A class review!
Awesome job, Jon!! Have it preordered, and now after this video I can't wait until it arrives.
I wish the aesthetics were nicer. When playing with kids, the looks sell the show, and apart from the overproduced rocket the game looks drab and abstract. Forbidden Desert might be about 'digging up piles of sand' but the grid of desert tiles waiting to be uncovered look much more appealing than ll
I totally agree on the art, it does not look good. I also wonder if this is distinct enough from Forbidden Desert to make it worth buying.
You'd think by now that navigator would have been arrested for tresspassing on three separate occasions... Wonder where Leacock will go from here... "GameWright presents... Forbidden... uhh...Tunnel? Shut up. We'll make it work... There will be a lamp light mechanism...and mole people? Yeah, mole people!"
In the blurb for this game they heavily imply that the rocket ship has a specific destination planned. It felt like they're leading towards another game - Forbidden Planet or Forbidden World. But I would expect this to be the last.
Nice review man. Question - if I was considering buying this for a 12 year old, what's the rules complexity like? How long would it take to pick it up and get into it?
I think it'd be fine. It's pretty simple to pick up. About the level of Carcassonne.
Cracking review as ever! Looks like a good purchase for me and Lottie!
Hmmmm think I need to buy this just based on components alone haha!! Great review thanks Jon
The connection rods and tiles are but ugly dead meat color.
This game doesn’t look innovative at all.
I agree; cooperative tile laying games about connecting a working circuit on a floating platform in the sky are so overdone.
This review is such a contrast to the DiceTower guys. I really don't like the look of the plastic components though.
Thanks for the review Jon. I’ve loved both the other Forbidden games, I still use Island as my go-to introduction to coops for the kids at my school. Desert feels the natural evolution with it’s increased complexity and challenge. Would you say, from what you said of the difficulty of winning, that this was more of a challenge than Forbidden Desert?
Yes, I found it more challenging. But it could be that this sort of puzzle is harder for my brain than Desert. I expect they're probably on a similar level overall, but both significantly harder than Island.
YEAH MORE ACTUALOL
Thank you for a great video for a great game. I would love to try this game myself and see the rocket light up.
I resisted the temptation to make the rocket ship light up until I won the game. It took me three attempts, but it definitely felt like I earnt it!
This game is so ugly! That rocket looks like it came with a happy meal.
i got this on my birthday and we played for 15 hours
Your review got me so excited for it! We love playing both Island and Desert with our son and this one sounds like a great continuation of the series. Will certainly be picking it up. Excellent video - very informative.
Great review, Jon. Playing this tomorrow night, so I need all of the tips I can get.
Props for not giving in and showing the rocket in action!
How does this compare in your opinion to Forbidden Desert?
Great review video.
To this point, the previews I've watched hadn't sold me on it, but your video really helped me understand more about the experience I can expect from it. It looks awesome!
And to add to your list of Chris actors, I for one would love to see a 'Chris' Walken adventure movie based on the game :D
What a great and positive review. Tnx
Thanks for a great review Jon. This was on my buy list anyway as I collect Matt Leacock games. Like you said, he is the master.
You didn't cover the most important feature! The fact that this comes in a standard, not the annoyingly awkward to shelve tin boxes that the first two came in. I hope I can fit all three games into this one box for easy storage!
This looks great, awesome review. I was not that excited until your review. You said this is your first coop tile laying game, if you want to try another I like Sub Terra quite a bit.
I was a bit vague with that. I have played Sub Terra, but this is a bit different. In this you choose where your tiles go once you've looked at them. It's similar to Carcasonne in that respect. In Sub Terra you don't have a choice about what tile you will face.
Ah I see, sounds amazing!
Well explained! But why is the box so big? I like the compactness of FD.
great review! I just picked up this game and this helped.
Also, you remind me of Ewan McGregor from Phantom Menace.
Never heard that before, but I'll take it!
Good work, can't wait
Nice review. Wishlisted!
Been getting back into Co-ops recently... This looks great, but so many others to play still.
Jamie Buckley what are your favorites? Looking for a new one after pandemic
Thunderbirds is a pretty good option if you like the theme, its quite similar to pandemic(same designer). My favourites are X-COM because of the real time nature, dead of Winter due to the potential of having a traitor and everyone having their own objectives.
If you havent already you could expand Pandemic with the On the Brink expansion which adds a hidden traitor and mutation mechanic, or even try Pandemic Legacy.
Depending on your level of experience there is also Spirit Island or Eldritch Horror which both have quite a long play time/level of complexity.
Hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask :)
Thanks again, awesome review. You know how it plays with 2 players? Or is it better with more?
It's good with 2 players. The game feels similar at all counts, really.
thank u so much, this will be a new game in our collection then!
Yeah, I gotta admit that i prefer these types of reviews. This and your review of Detective have forced (yes forces I say) me to put these games in my cart.
Stumbled across your channel and after this fantastic review I instantly subscribed! Well done!
A shame about the generic player pieces.
I really like your new format! Thanks for the review.
Great to see you back enjoying making videos again :-)
John, absolutely love your review style, content and timing. I just wish you had a heavier side to your taste in games.
I do, but just not on the heavier euro side that most people want. I love Game of Thrones, Battlestar, Merchants and Marauders, Dead of Winter. But thematic heavy games that are interesting aren't made very often. Western Legends is a recent game I enjoy that I might review.
You must've read my mind! I was dying to find out more about Forbidden Sky and then Bam! Actualol review! =D
Loving your new wave of reviews, make sure you take time to look after yourself too!
Thanks, I will try to 🙂
Great review. This is now on my want list.
A new Matt Peacock game! \o/
Welcome back!!
Do you review board games on request? Or games that are planned for kickstarter?
No I don't, sorry.
@@actualol Not a problem! That was a very fast response haha
Have a great day. I'm enjoying your videos :)
So excited!
Great review (last 2 mins felt redundant.)
Fair comment, I will look to streamline in future videos. Thanks!
